Summary: Ugh, it makes Dune look horrible
Review: Soon after reading Dune, I found this movie and watched it. I had heard that it was nothing like the book, but I was not prepared for what I saw. The beginning was good-the book was followed exactly. But then came the rest, and I found myself to be watching a movie about this superhuman who was capable of anything (not to mention being portrayed as something of a deity). It was nothing like the book.

Summary: It grows on you
Review: The very first time I saw this movie was on television where they aired a special 190 minute version which contained important scenes and a more detailed introduction that makes the movie a lot easier to understand. With out a doubt this has to be one of the greatest sci-fi movies ever made visually. I have seen this movie countless times and each time I am amazed by the special effects. I gave this movie 4 stars and not 5 because you have to watch it more than once to understand it. There is just too much going on in this movie than can be taken in the first time you watch it. I also highly suggest watching the extended version to get a far better understanding. If you like to let your imagination go free, you will love this movie as it will become one of your favorite movies ever as it has for me.

Summary: I hated it at first...but then I started to like it
Review: When I was a child my parents sat me down to watch this movie. I thought it was the most boring movie that I had ever seen.

Now 20 years later I sat down to watch and watch and watch. It blows my mind I way. It is definitly one of the best Sci-fi films of all times.

I highly recommend the books to.

Summary: DUNE a broad-stroke painting of a Sci-fi masterwork
Review: I get so very annoyed with film critics who say "I saw the movie- but the book was better" bah It's two different media folks - of course its gonna be better in your own vivid imagination. I hear these arguments for David Lynch's DUNE often. the Film DUNE is to the Novel DUNE as the Sistine Chapel is to the BIBLE.I have a goal in my life to walk into the SISTINE chapel and say "UGGHHH - the Book is SOOOO much better." Michelangelo left out so much of the blood and carnage and basic Plot of the BIBLE - but still manages to be appreciated for his work long after his death. David Lynch paints a broadstroke portrait of Frank Herbert's future humanity. Lynch even manages to make Paul into a Just messiah when in the book Paul Atreides is somewhat of an anti-hero - unbalancing the known universe in terrible destructive ways - he is the Darth Vader of the storyline. Would you know much about the Bible from having just seen the ceiling of the Sistine Chapel? Probably not - but it remains a Beatiful work of art God never looked so pretty - it is an artistic and glorified illustration of a much larger story and the final point DUNE Is a work of art, and is a World unlike anything you've ever seen - just look up in awe (can't wait for the Sci-Fi Channel interpretation) fade out

Summary: Well, hmmm...
Review: Really, this isn't an overly good movie. The basic plot of the book is present and the acting is alright and the visuals are impressive, but nothing is really that outstanding. I think that it deserves 3.5 stars, but I'll give it four as 3.5 is not an option.

As a side note: for anyone looking for the Alan Smithee version (aka: 4 hour version or full length version), don't bother. The video cut is much better, and the longer version just contains a bunch of sequences that were cut for a reason.

Summary: Where's it at?
Review: Dune is an all around good movie with a detailed plot and good acting. The problem I've been running into is that I can't find the full length version.

Rating: 5 stars
Summary: Come On it's Dune
Review: Few scifi movies have captured peoples imagination as much as this movie. This isn't of the independence Day variety. This is the good stuff. The .44 calibur killer type that when your done you have to watch it again and still your not sure what you just saw.

Rating: 2 stars
Summary: Cool special effects... and that's about it.
Review: The special effects are good by today standards and they were excellent considering the time the movie was made, but after waching it, I keep thinkig that the title should be "The making of Dune". It plays more like a documentary than a story. You don't see what's going on, rather you are told by the actors thoughts. Edition is clumsy and abrupt: you are taken from one scene to another, with total disregard for plot or storyline. If you love sci-fi (like I do), you will not think the movie was a total waste. That's why I give it two stars instead of one.

Summary: Great movie, poor DVD
Review: The movie it self is fantastic. The DVD would match if they put a little more effort into it. They left out key scenes that without them leave me a bit confused to the plot.

Rating: 3 stars
Summary: Good for a sci-fi fan.
Review: Filled with stunning visuals and a futuristic feel, Dune is the perfect movie for a fan of science fiction. It ends there. This movie is too deep for the average movie buff.
