Summary: Sci-fi for ten-year-olds. And even they may feel patronised
Review: A team of Earth space-travellers find a seemingly deserted ship very close to a black hole, only to discover it's inhabited by robots, curious humanoid figures and a scientist who intends to explore the black hole.Though this film has excellent images and background and one of the most moodily effective soundtracks in cinema history (which ought to be released on CD) it is utterly let down by the fact that Disney saw the need to reduce the drama factor by making it 'cute'. The Mickey Mouse-eyed VINCENT is just plain irritating, and BOB (did he have an old man's voice all his life?) is little better. Character-wise, Schell and Borgnine are virtually keeping the film afloat on their own, the others all seeming like cliched sci-fi cutouts. The dangerous robot Maximillion is effective but the sentry robots are little more than comic characters who seem unable to deal with anybody. It makes you wonder how the original crew could ever have been 'rounded up' by them. Worth seeing for the effects and score. I daresay you'll get something out of this if you're a sci-fi fan. You could always read a magazine whilst you're watching it.

Summary: Nice to see it again.
Review: Unlike many people---I never saw the movie until the VCR revolution was in full gear---still I enjoyed it---almost as much as I enjoyed the tape I have now. My only gripe would is that the digital transfer is a little too clear(you can actually see the wires that the puppeteers are using on the robot characters at one point). While the story is probably not the best one I've ever seen--it's servicable at least. Oh, yes---the FX were even more inpressive in this new version.

Summary: Sleeper of sleepers - Trust me
Review: I guess I'm spoiled. I've never thought this film had much merit except the beautiful visuals. Otherwise, sleep through it. The acting is cheesy because they had a cheesy script and no actor can improve atrocious writing. Forbidden planet didn't have many decent effects, but at least they had a decent story and some first line actors. Max Schell actually looks embarassed in places, look carefully.

Summary: A magnificent, artistically arresting piece of hokum!
Review: Forget the wooden characters, the ham-handed dialog, and the rather lame storyline. The SFX in the Black Hole come as close to an artistic vision as anything ever to come out of Hollywood. Keep in mind that this was the last hurrah for the same art and effects director who did the gloriously stylish and imaginative settings for Mary Poppins, Peter Pan, and Sleeping Beauty (I think...) Some of the bonuses... * Vincent Borgnine goes way out of usual character... * The malevolent droid is really quite scary... * Who cares about what happens to the good guys in the Black Hole! The kicker is what happens to the Madman and his cyber-goon. (An eternity truly worthy of Dante...) What's more...even the eerie, haunting, and chilling imagery depicting the final fates of all concerned are acceptable for older kids. It's hokum all the way through...but it's plied with true visual art. The musical score fires it all along.

Summary: A piece of Sci-Fi junk
Review: Man what a bad movie i don't know what to say about this movie about how bad it was. Director Guy Nelson has made a piece of Sci-Fi drivel for one thing the special effects are cheesy and so is the production design well the ship it itself looks halfway decent but that's about all that's good about the production design. Really the only thing i liked about the entire movie is the score from composer John Barry it is a good score that is action packed. I liked that but really nothing else. and now about the story it was so lame really what is disapointing is that the script is lame and stupid and the all star cast including Robert Forester, Ernest Borgnine and Anthony Perkins who was in the wonderful Psycho. Even Anthony perkins was bad. mainly because of the cheesy dialog and script. Review: Okay, so the acting is a little cheesy but the visuals are stunning and MY GOD does Disney need to release this soundtrack! The music is awesome.

Summary: I love sci-fi, but I don't love this film
Review: Not to say I hate it either, but I've seen better sci-fi. I first saw this when I was eight years old, and even then, nineteen years ago, it didn't make much sense. Besides, since when are black holes BLUE!? Science is completely ignored, and the ending doesn't make much sense. Exactly where are the crew of the Palomino headed off to at the end of the film? Even though this black hole is blue, why does it suddenly turn red when the Cygnus is right near it? Great visual effects though, but movies such as "War of the Worlds" are a much better find.

Review: I saw this movie when I was in 1st grade, and continusly rented it until the video store closed down which was when I was in 3rd grade. I bought a used VHS copy of it when I was in 10th grade.

Summary: AT LONG LAST!! THE BLACK HOLE - IN WIDESCREEN
Review: I got the liied edition vhs of this movie the first dayui was released and watched it as soon as I got home. WOW!!!!!The transfer was crystal clear (As an earlyier reviewer said, too clear in some places(Visable matte lines where the matte connects the physical set, Robots wires visiable). The special effects never looked better and the sound is also very clear for a 70's movie. To all those who say that this is a bad movie, you obviously were never kids. The Black Hole appeals to kids, but it alsoappeals to those who like not-overly-complicated Sci-fi. Yeah, the acting and dialoge arn't great, but that didn't stop you yups from liking Armageddon or Independence Day or Godzilla. This is a great movie, with an ending really out-of-character for Disney. I recommend the immeadit purchase of this movie.

Summary: Cool flick despite Disney-cutsey pollution
Review: This is one of the best science fiction movies ever. Too bad somebody got hold of the script and wrote in two cheesy robots, VINCENT and BOB. They are like floating tin cans with the generic over-sized "Disney Eyes" their animation people love to put on their characters. Well, the decision backfired. But the rest of the movie comes through, however. Just go to the kitchen and get a beer whenever the robots get the limelight.
