Summary: One of the two 'Must Have' SF Movies of the 70's
Review: The so called expert reviewers have got this one wrong. Alien is a bare knuckle ride executed in a sort of Docu-style approach (similar to that touched on by Kubrik in 2001 but without the profound pretentions. The reviewers need to think back to the first time they saw this movie (because it is an all-time classic - they, like me, have probably seen it in excess of 5 times). It is intelligent and efficient - and while it executes the old cliched '10 little Indians scenario with panache - It is the backdrop and the subtle reflections on corporate and individual greed that still grab attention today. It's also noted for the quality of the sequels. The only other SF film that stands the test from the seventies is Silent Running - another superb example and possibly more worthy as it doesn't need the 'slash scenario' to draw it's conclusions.

Review: Couldn't be happier with the DVD version. This is the way all movies should be presented in this format. Ridley Scott's commentary was fascinating as were all the extras included here. If you're more than a casual fan of this classic, you need to own this.

Summary: Maybe the best movie of all times
Review: »Alien« has been my favourite movie since I saw it for the first time, as a teenager. Since then, I have seen it about eighty times, and I still enjoy it just as much.Not only is it a perfect thriller, with that extra claustrophic feeling about it. It also has a unique charm of "old-fashioned futuristic technology" - the interior of the spaceship, the computers, the entire atmosphere. The movie is from 1979, and science fiction is just so much better when it's made in a time where far from everyone had ever seen a computer! This is the best of thrillers, the best of movies. And it never steps beyond its own frame, it just never exaggerates. No wonder, »Alien« is considered as a classic in film history!

Review: Could it be that the reason ALIENS gets more attention than ALIEN is because ALIENS is WAY better? DUH! Oh, well. Both movies are very good in my eyes. Get this one on DVD!

Summary: Alien: The Best of the Bunch
Review: The thing that amazes me most about "Alien" is there are no signs of it being made in 1978! I first saw this when I was 8 years old, and to this day, it remains one of my all time favourite movies. The sets are outrageous and literally out of this world. True art! Dark and dreary, spooky and altogher ookey, The Alien Family! (couldn't resist!). And am i the only one who thinks this is really, the only "good" Alien movie? What is the deal with "Aliens"? I thought the sequel was totally lame. "Alien" was more thought provocking and deep. It was also more artistic and meaningful, on an intellectual standpoint. It drew you more inward. It raised questions about space and beyond, the uncertainity of darkness, our future. The acting was also top notch, totally believable. The fear was so real, you felt it, you saw it. Perspiration drenched fear. The psychology of "Alien" and the mystery of outer space give this film a haunting edge over the other sequels. The mystery and intruigue, the quietness, except for the humming of the spacecraft cast an eerie gloom, delving you further into the realm of space, drawing you nearer to the Alien! Suspenseful and glorious.

Summary: ALIEN IN DETAIL
Review: When done right, buying a DVD is more than just buying a movie, but more like buying a library... and ALIEN is a library of pure entertainment (on a scale of one to ten on FIDDLE FACTOR - i.e. how many bells, whistles and switches to play with... ALIEN get's a ten... you'll spend an hour or two just flipping through features having fun). Packed with extras, you can't go wrong with this first in the ALIEN series. Original posters, concept art, original alien design, plus a crisp, clean film transfer... you can't go wrong with this. Highly recommended.

Review: Disregard what Mr. Marshall Fine says as he obviously suffers from what is commonly known as short attention span syndrome.This is definitely the only worth while movie of the whole alien series.This was made in a period when they still knew how to make suspensful movies.Slow moving in the beginning? YES! Intentional? YES! This movie takes the time to develop the plot and characters so you actually get to care about them(something that new movies never do).I can't believe that Aliens(the sequel)got a better response than the first one.It just goes to show that people don't want to think anymore.People want non-stop action and disposable idiotic characters that you want to die and idiotic plots and idiotic endings.Could it be that people are just _______? Well, if you want to see a classic horror/sci-fi movie then see Alien,if you prefer the latter then see Aliens.I wonder which one Mr. Marshall Fine preferred?

Summary: Shows what you can do WITHOUT a computer..
Review: and all the CGI and in your face FX. Just plain damn scary. Slow and purposeful in the beginning, close and claustrophobic, you are uncomfortable and anxious to get moving as events slowly unfold. Ridley did this for a reason, to make you feel as they did.. trapped and uncomfortably close. Watch the movie again and notice all the tight croppings and close ups. He wanted to put the viewer there on the ship, with them. A simple plot, with solid characterizations, you feel for them in their hopeless situation. When I first seen Alien, I had just enlisted in the Air Force and trapped into aircraft maintenance. Once in and on the flightline, I was able to compare what I had to work in and realized, even more so how, realistic they tried to make the working enviroment and the characters that worked there. At least to me, it seemed exactly what a group of essentially blue collar works in space would be like, not the perfect, cardboard box sets of the Star Trek movies, and body beautifuls that inhabit those environs. The DVD is a keeper, with an excellent menu interface and loads of special extras. It would take a week to go through all of it. BTW, was Ridely Scott eating something when doing his commentary? Seemed like it to me, made the whole think pretty humorouos, as if he was caught off guard when a special scene came up. If you have the Laser special edition, there isn't much more in the way of visual extras, but the audio and menus are enough to make this a buy. Another great example of what the technology can be. A definate buy for anyone for many reasons. A standard in horror/sci-fi, scary as hell and great to look at.

Summary: The Pinnacle of Sci-Fi Horror!
Review: Based on the 1979 film "Alien", this novel is one of my favorites. It is very interesting, suspensful, and dramatic. A survival story of the crew on the spaceship "Nostromo", who land on an uncharted planet to investigate what they believe to be a distress call, and bring back the most horrifying creature they've ever seen. When I first read it, I was so intrigued, I read the entire book in one sitting. You've never read a Sci-Fi novel until you've read "Alien"! That's my two cents.
