Review: This bow to _Star Trek_ and its countless spin-offs and sequels is masterfully done. I don't want to put in a lot of "spoilers," for those who haven't seen _Galaxy Quest_. But if you have any knowledge of the Star Trek genre at all, get this movie!The core concept, the idea of actors having to live their parts, is not a new one, but it usually works. It works exceptionally well, here. Two standout performances: Alan Rickman, easily the most sinister villian of the 90s, cast against type as Dr. Lazarus, the "Spock" character, and Sam Rockwell as, "Crewman #6." Watch the end credits! And I had no idea Sigourney Weaver could do comedy! Maybe the blonde hair has something to do with it . . .

Review: I was eager to see this movie, hoping it was going to be as good as I dreamed it would be, so many hyped up Box Office megahits fell disappointingly short, (example; Matrix! ). It was with great relief that this movie flew into the Wonderfully Brilliant catagory, Im pleased to inform you that Galaxy Quest is a fun, funny, fantastic film, for families to watch without the worry of excessive violence (Well theres a little bit, and it also suggests some form of Xenocide and canibalism! but aside from that its pretty tame!) The Actors in my opinion, are all stars, Tim Allen may have been the head honcho but every actor contributed to the films overall appeal I particularily enjoyed Sigorney in the role of the stereotypical Blonde actress (A far cry from her Ripley persona! ) This movie is pure entertainment, paying a high quality tribute to those earlier Scifi shows, perhaps letting people who dont normally watch classic Scifi relics (Yep Star Trek, and lost in space etc! ), a chance to view these series from a new perspective, whether you enjoy Scifi or not Im quite sure you will have a smile on your face and a new appreciation for a genre that has spawned a number of truely corny and whacky shows, SO PLEASE WATCH THIS MOVIE. YOU WONT REGRET IT!

Review: Let me tell you, I read the premise for Galaxy Quest months in advance, and I was quite sckeptical. I absolutely loathe Star Trek, and I thought this would be just as awful. But once it came out, I kept reading review after review that was so positive, that I just had to go and see it. (Besides, there wasn't much else too choose from at the time.) But I tell you what, I was so pleasently suprised on how much I walked away liking this movie. It's sweet natured and good hearted; something you don't get every day. Also I was privy to the fact that it was a great film I could take my little sister too, and not have too worry about content. So all you trekkies out there, I hope you had a great time at this film that honors you; but more importantly, to all those non-trekkies out there, you should open your minds and give this film a chance. There is plenty of subtle comedy in it that I believe takes multiple viewings to get. But I know you will love it. I know I did, and I am hard to please.

Summary: Sc-Fi Fandom Has Never Been Funnier
Review: Some people think the best spoof of "Star Trek" is the original series itself. With all the over-acting, the cheesy special effects, and the occassional silly plot lines, it's easy to laugh at the old show. In Galaxy Quest, a comedy with heavy "Trek" influence, the laughs come not from ridicule, but good-natured satire. As the cast of the old "Galaxy Quest" television series, Jason Nesmith (Tim Allen, Toy Story 2) and the crew of the NSEA Protector spend their weekends making guest appearances at science fiction conventions and shopping mall openings. Even though their fans adore them, the crew is ready to explode after years of living with clashing egos. In their world of science fiction fandom, Nesmith mistakes a group of aliens for fans. Soon, he finds himself taken on board a replica of the Protector, where he learns how they patterned their culture on the old "Galaxy Quest" shows. The aliens ask him for help in fighting a nasty space villain named Sarris (Robin Sachs). Nesmith returns to Earth and tries to convince his former co-stars he really has been to outer space. Of course, they don't believe him. But when the aliens show up again, the cast of the old show refuse to let Nesmith cut them out of another job. They demand to be included and are transported to the ship on the other side of the galaxy. To the delight of science fiction fans, Galaxy Quest pokes fun at everything associated with SF: the conventions, the fans, the obsessions with trivial minutia, and (of course) the show itself. The gags are sometimes such "in jokes," that anyone outside the SF community might not recognize just how funny it is. This doesn't mean the whole movie is like that, but for true fans of the genre, there are some nice touches. The movie cast does a wonderful job of portraying the various weaknesses and strengths of the television cast. Allen trades in Buzz Lightyear's "To infinity... and beyond!" for Nesmith's "Never give up! Never surrender!" and plays the arrogant star of the show. His co-stars hate him, but despite his arrogance he has a connection with his fans that makes him loveable. Alan Rickman (Dogma) is wonderful as Alexandar Dane, a Shakespearean-trained actor who has been reduced to an alien science officer who has repeated a catch-phrase so often he cringes at every utterance of it. Sigourney Weaver (Alien: Resurrection), who is no stranger to science fiction, casts off her usual strong female role to play Gwen DeMarco, a busty blonde who's role on the tv show was limited to repeating whatever the computer said. The best character of the group is Fred Kwan (played by Tony Shaloub, "Stark Raving Mad"). What makes him so funny is how quickly he adapts to this new reality. While most of his co-stars are awestruck by the transport to the spaceship, he arrives with hardly any reaction. When things go from bad to weird, he never panics, causing others to question, "You're stoned, aren't you?" Unlike earlier science fiction comedies (i.e. Mel Brooks' Spaceballs), the comedy in Galaxy Quest comes from the situation, not by satirizing any particular film. The humor comes not from putting SF down, but from understanding the genre, the culture, and the community. Most importantly, it is refreshing and inspired. Galaxy Quest is a fun, and funny, science fiction story. Oddly enough, even though it lampoons SF, the great special effects and good storyline make it a good SF movie. It may be ignored by the Academy Awards, but I expect it will receive nominations in the SF community.

Review: Tim Allen and Sigourney Weaver protect the cosmos in the imaginative Sci-fi comedy "Galaxy Quest". The cast of a popular Sci-fi TV show is recruited by a clueless alien race to protect them from a hostile reptilian villian. "Galaxy Quest" is an inventive and entertaining Sci-fi satire that delivers some very amusing laughs. The storyline is quite enjoyable and uplifting. Tim Allen, Sigourney Weaver and Alan Rickman deliver some fine comic performances. The cast also includes Tony Shalhoub, Sam Rockwell, Daryll Mitchell and Enrico Colantoni. The movie features some great special effects. With a pleasant storyline and strong comic cast, "Galaxy Quest" earns a "B".

Summary: It Must Be Guys' Things
Review: I have been a Star Trek fan for the longest time & for that simple reason, my girl friend never bothered watching the series with me. But then again, unknowingly, Star Trek's culture has imbedded into our day to day living. If you say phrases like "Beam Me Up, Scottie"; "Live Long & Prosper" whilst displaying the V sign, your friends just understand immediately what you're implying. Anyway, my girl friend came with me to the cinema reluctantly & she couldn't help shaking her head noticing that the cinema was filled with males especially the geeky type, something like me! Anyway, when the movie started, she couldn't help laughing her heads off with the goofy storyline. On top of the mockery of the Star Trek series, what I'm finding this movie endearing is seeing all those familiar actors from TV series such as Elliott in Just Shoot Me, Mitchell from Veronica's Closet, Tim Allen in Home Improvement, the taxi guy from Wings strutting their stuff. What's even amusing is seeing Sigourney Weaver playing a busty bimbo (a far cry from her Ripley role in Alien & sequels), & Alan Rickman virtually playing himself as an actor with English theatre background forcing himself re-enacting the role of this Spock character again & again & still, the spotlight is always taken by Tim Allen who's potraying the role of William Shatner. What's even more delightful about the movie is that in the end, good prevails over evil. The underlying themes of the movies would be the significance of teamwork, & self belief. A wonderful film to be shared with family members & friends. What's even more unbelievable is that my girl friend can't wait for the sequel, if there's any! On the sideline, Stan Winston, the special effect guy who had brought us the Alien creature is in his usual best. By the way, the space ship is as corny as ever.

Summary: Great Satire
Review: If you like Tim Allen you'll love this movie. The cast is great and the story is hilarious; from the funny speaking aliens to the exaggerated characters. It's not just a satire on Star Trek, but on scifi movies in general and even if you don't watch too much scifi you can still clearly point out a lot of what's being poked fun at. It was even entertaining enough to keep my 7 year old nephew's attention.
