Review: "Spaceballs" is one of the funniest movies ever made! The DVD is great! The picture and sound quality are fabulous. There are a few extras including the Special Behind The Scenes Footage, which is great, except the DVD needs more special features like outtakes, production photographs, deleted scenes, and others. Mel Brooks stars as President Skroob who sends Dark Helmet (Rick Moranis) to steal Planet Druidia's air supply and save Spaceball City, but Lone Starr (Bill Pullman) and his friend Barf (John Candy) are here to stop it. Princess Vespa has to marry a prince, but she did not want to marry Prince Valium because she was not in love with him. Dick Van Patten is terrific in his supporting role as King Roland, Princess Vespa's father. George Wyner is also great as Colonel Sandurz and Joan Rivers is also good as the voice of Dot Matrix. "Spaceballs" is a movie you should own on DVD, if you own a DVD player. My brother likes it, too.

Review: My God, I love this movie. I own two Mel Brooks movies. They are The Producers and Spaceballs. Spaceballs is one of Mel Brooks' finest. It's got Jewish humor, it's got toilet humor, and it mainly mocks Star Wars with two moments in the movie regarding the movies, Alien and Planet of the Apes. If there ever was a sequel, I bet they would have characters like Count Dookie (a spoof of Count Dooku from Attack of the Clones and at the end, he would rescue President Skroob, Dark Helmet, and Colonel Sandurz from the Planet of the Apes. The DVD features are few but brilliant. The commentary is hilarious with lines such as, "I gotta get more Jews. This is not working out." There is also a moment where you can hear Ronny Graham (God rest his soul.) speaking. In fact, in the last scene of the movie, he makes his own little commentary. I think it's about him playing the Space Priest. You know, the one who says, "We are gathered here today to witness Princess Vespa, daughter of Roland, running right past the altar, heading down the ramp, and out the door!" This movie is hilarious. The actors are hilarious. In case nobody knows who are the characters Mel Brooks is mocking, first of all, most of these characters are from Star Wars. Lone Starr is a mixture of Luke Skywalker and Han Solo, Princess Vespa is a spoof of Princess Leia, Dot Matrix is a spoof of the droid C-3PO (the difference is that Threepio is a man and Dot is a woman, Barf is a spoof of Han Solo's first mate, Chewbacca, who belongs to a race called Wookies and talks in grunts and roars, Dark Helmet is a spoof of Darth Vader, Colonel Sandurz might be a spoof of the lesser known Star Wars character known as Admiral Piett from The Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi, Comanderette Zircon might be a spoof of a male character named Governor Tarkin from the first Star Wars movie, President Skroob is a spoof of Emperor Palpatine, Yogurt is a spoof of Yoda (who doesn't talk exactly like Yogurt does), the Dinks are spoofs of a race called Jawas, and Marlene and Charlene (Skroob's twin girlfriends) might be spoofs of two twin ladies seen in the cantina in the first movie. Those characters are minor. See the movie and review the Star Wars trilogy. You'll see what I mean

Summary: A classic
Review: There are few comedies that can come close to touching the insanity of Mel Brooks. The man is a genius; there is not another way to describe it. He has done a parody film for just about every genre out there. In this film his target is Sci-Fi space operas. Star Wars, Star trek, Aliens and many other classics become the target of one massive farce on space adventures.
Spaceballs is without a doubt one of Brook's finest, and even has a few quotable scenes of its own. "Evil will always triumph because good is dumb."
The movie tells the story of a Druish princess who does not want to marry the royal pain Prince Valume. Rather than marry for her father's sake she runs away and is then attacked by Spaceballs who want to use her to blackmail her father into giving them the code to the air shield which guards 10,000 years of fresh air. The Spaceballs have nearly destroyed their planet and need to steal the air from Planet Druidia in order to save their own world.
Space cowboy Lonestar and his furry companion Barf are in debt to the notorious gangster Pizza the Hut. Thankfully the Druid King Rolland hires them to rescue his daughter from Spaceballs. The set up is cliché sci-fi, and in that way its perfect for what Brooks set out to do.
The problem with this movie is that the jokes do get tiresome. Unlike History of the World, Spaceballs has a limited view value. It is not a movie you could watch repeatedly and have it still be funny. If you take a "break" from it some of the laughs can be revived, but most of the gags do get old and stale after a while. It is still a worthy addition to anyone's DVD collection. Especially for the Mel Brooks commentary on the movie.

Review: This Movie Is Great Spoof From Such Films As Alien,Star Trek, Star Wars And Many Other Films! Mel Brooks Really Made A Great Comedy With Some Jokes That Never Get Old. I Am Richard Wilson's Son John I'm 12 And Think Star Wars Is The Best Set Of Movies Ever. When My Friend Brought This Movie Over I Thought It Was Going To Be A Dumb Movie That Made Fun Of Star Wars And Other Films, But It Was Acually A Great Movie With Very Fun Jokes. The Character's Are Great Such As Dark Helmet, Lone Star, And Princess Vespa. If Your Looking For A Great Comedy Look No Further Than Spaceballs!

Review: I have seen all of the Mel Brooks spoofs except for Blazing Sattles but I have to say that Spaceballs is one of the best spoofs around! The acting was great, the lines were very funny, and this movie definately needs a sequel.However, if you aren't a fan of Star Wars then you might not like this movie very much.

Review: Mel Brooks is a comic genius. Although Young Frankenstein is still my absolute favorite (followed closely by Blazing Saddles)Spaceballs is a fun frolic the paradies all the science fiction films to that time.

Mainly mirroring the Star Wars universe with little jabs at the Star Trek universe - it visually matches the sets design and costuming of Star Wars.

Bill Pulman and Daphnie Zuniga are histerical. And there are a ton of cameo appreances. Mel Brooks himself (also writer and director) plays two roles...the most notable...the all powerful, the all knowing, the all wise - YOGERT. (A Yoda rip-off.)

This film is funny and fun. Mel Brooks has one of the most creative minds in the industry. His wife, Ann bancroft must be in histerics all the time! I loved this movie!

Summary: Spaceballs: Okay Star Wars Parody!
Review: For a Mel Brooks film, SPACEBALLS is not one of his best work but it is notable as one of the only major feature films spoofing Star Wars. There is HARDWARE WARS, but it only makes its way at fan and comic book conventions and filler material on cable etc... Perhaps if the Zucker Brothers had done the spoof, it would have been funnier and raunchier. However, SPACEBALLS has its moments such as the inspired Pizza the Hut (Jabba the Hut in pepperoni and mozzarella drag) played by Dom Deluise and John Hurt reprising his role from ALIEN complete with replaying the classic scene from the film in which the "Alien" explodes out of his chest. However, Rick Moranis' Dark Helmet (Darth Vader), and the late John Candy's Barf the Mawg (Chewbacca?) are not very clever and carry much of the films' forced humor. Bill Pullman again shows his versatility as an actor in one of his early film roles playing Lone Starr (a character combination of Luke Skywalker and Han Solo) and the rest of the cast of veteran character actors and some new faces do a pretty good job with a weak script and story. Hoewever, there seems to be something missing and there were more special effects in this movie than laughs.

Review: I'm not familiar with mr. Brooks' other movies, but I've watched Spaceballs since I was a child and it never fails to bring me down laughing.
From the incredible Dark Helmet, to 'combing' the desert, it's a grand parade of laughs.
If you haven't seen this, I recommend you do.

On the technical side, the video quality is very good, although the full-frame version is a bit worse than the widescreen, although that's understandable.

There're some extras on the dvd, but frankly their video quality is appalling (something like VHS) and doesn't hold a candle to the feature film. But then again, I didn't buy this dvd for the extras.

I missed English subtitles, because I'm not a native English speaker, but the audio quality was good and clear, even though it sometimes overwhelmed my poor hifi-set's speakers. I had little trouble keeping the music/soundeffects and speech separated.

Review: Spaceballs was supposed to be a farce of all the popular sci fi movies spanning the late 70's to mid 80's, including Alien, Star Trek, and especially Star Wars. The movie was supposed to make you laugh, then disappear forever. That wasn't the case at all! This movie, in itself, is one of the greatest cult classic farce movies ever created, and it is pure brilliance if I've ever seen it! The cast is perfect, the plot is great, and the special effects are amazing. The comedy and humor are in great supply, and the movie is not to be missed!

Review: Spaceballs must be one of the stupidest movies ever made! If I could give this movie 0 stars I would. This movie was cheaply made and not at all funny. Tacky and tasteless. No storyline and the special effects were nauseating-literally. Don't waste your money like I did.
