Summary: Well made science fiction, don't expect action
Review: I hate it when people complain about a lack of action in anime because they were expecting action, like those disappointed by "Patlabor" or "Ghost in the Shell". This is not an action film, it is a science fiction that resembles Andrew Niccol's "Gattaca" (1998) in some ways.

It's a slow moving story that takes place in an alternate earth, different from ours. Hostile, war-like countries search for excuses for combat. Technology in flight is advanced, yet space travel has not been achieved. The story focuses on the Royal Space Force, a low-budget, thrown-away research team trying to achieve space travel. The government, seeing no military advantage to the Royal Space Force's projects, do not take the Space Force seriously at all. Once the Royal Space Force is ready so send a man to space, Shirow Ladat is the only one to volunteer. The government, however, plan to use the launch as bait to force a neighbor country to declare war.

This film is great. The animation is very nicely done, and you can see much effort, research, and creativity (creating an alternate world is a daunting task) in this anime. Interesting concepts of fame, and an apocalyptic religion are presented in this. It has some flaws, and a useless attempted-rape scene which doesn't seem to plausable, but still is a great film to watch.

Summary: Minimalism as story
Review: Things we often over look are the things that shape and bind us as beings. This movie has a high animation standard equal to Ghost in the Shell but never, never(!!!!) comes close to Akira. It is however very excellent in its own right. The story revolves around Shirow Ladatt whom has volunteered to become histroy's first astronaut> The context is an alternate universe very much to our own, but with significant differences. For instance, Shirow will attempt to become the first man in space, the aircraft they show have propeller designs straight out of aeronautics fro the last ten years (Dual Propellers rotating in opposite directions, and curved in opposite ways), and the country Shirow lives in has increased intensions with its neighbors, whom suspect the rocket for the launch is really a weapon. This film has a bit of every ingredient; humor, action, drama, melodrama, and science fiction. Not Akira but nonehteless the animation on each character is very well done and you begin to respond to them by actually giving a damn about Shirow. But as you view the movie you will realize that the attraction really is a simplistic story that is wonderfully told, and the colors are very vibrant and pleasing to the eye. Everything a good animated film should be. After you see it once, you'll want to see it again in order to catch the real meaning of the story unless wyou were paying attention the first time. I recommend this to anyone whom enjoys diversity in their anime. This movie is a pleasnt surprise. Enjoy.

Summary: This Movie is Over Rated
Review: I was a little disappointed in this movie. The reviews raised my expectations. It was not as good as I expected. I kinded expected something as great as Akira. It's not a bad movie I just felt it lacked a certain air of seriousness. Though I do think it's worth the money.

Summary: Slow Paced, but the story will keep you in it.
Review: This is movie is actualy better than expected, the movie is a little slow to the point, but the building of the charachters was ecellent. The war seen was a nice nail biter. I give this movie four stars only because the story line did lag alittle, but this is a recommended buy.

Summary: A Landmark in Anime
Review: I've watched several great Anime movies, but when it comes to style, there's one movie that stands high above the rest. The Wings of Honneamise is certainly a landmark event in Japanese animation. The character animations are at their finest, more "disciplined" than Ninja Scroll, and that's what the animators really focused on. The story of a young man and his adventures in the Royal Space Force isn't the kind of plot you'd hear in other films like Akira and Ghost in the Shell, but The Wings of Honneamise still shines with or without a complex story. A true classic.

Summary: One of the best animes out there.
Review: I really took a long shot in getting The Wings of Honneamise. I couldn't find it anywhere to rent so I just went out and bought it. I wasn't dissapionted. The movie was slow through the whole thing till the end but it wasn't an ordinary anime. It was a drama and foccused more on the characters than the action. But when their was action it was great. The ending rocket launch and war scene was awsome. This is a great anime and all fans should absolutely own it.

Summary: A good drama, good story, good anim, good movie
Review: It's about 120 min of animated movie. There was a civilization of an alien world which was about to take the first steps to go into space. It is the story of a dream, where Shiro Lhadatt signs up with the Royal Space Force to become the first man in space.

This is a good drama, not an action movie. The social criticism is strong against the manipulative military leaders and the cynical public. It is a story made for an intelligent person, not for the french fries and coke taste. Animations are stunning specially in the final stages of the movie. Despite of its non-action nature, there are war sequences in which you may see the always impressive explosions and tech machines near the end of the movie, under the unique style of japanim.

There is a fight in which a radical is murdered and a few seconds of topless in which there is a struggling. These are the only sequences which makes the movie not good for children.

It has a philosophic content that makes the story to be worthy as well as Bladerunner. Characters perform their roles, the story is not predictable but somehow realistic. It is a lesson of humanity.

This is a must have for all of us who not only like jap animation but for those who like state of the art stories and pictures and do not like most of the commercial superpowered crap.

Summary: animation at it's absolute best
Review: A masterpiece in no uncertain terms, this film should appeal to anyone who is able to appreciate intelligent cinema without the frenetic action the American public is mesmerized with. Simply the most original and creative piece so un-characterisic of U.S. cartoons(read: Disney) the individuals and setting of this work is alien in look but all to familiar to our world. The struggles and conflicts mirror our own earth as is the main character who is lost in his own banalities. Forgotten are his own dreams of greatness in the Air Force, he settles for the Royal Space Force which is itself struggling with government apathy and public ridicule. When space flight is newly possible, his determination is rekindled. Savor this movie for it's wonder and thought provoking concepts I think you'll be pleased...

Summary: You can't talk anime without metnioning this film
Review: There are a few anime that will always be brought up when anime is discussed, Akira, Vampire Hunter D, Ninja Scroll, and now, Wings of Honeamise. This movie was breathtaking. Even those who don't watch anime will enjoy it. Wings of Honeamise deals with humaniy, and the expierience of being human on so many levels. From international conspiracy, to a lone woman's feeble pleas to God. I was left speachless when the credits began to roll. WATCH THIS MOVIE!!!
