Summary: How the Mighty Have Fallen!
Review: One thing you have to say about this animated movie is that is DOES have the original voices of all our HERCULES and XENA friends. We even hear from Ares (Kevin Smith) and Aphrodite (Alex Tydings) but - oiy! - what a mess! If you are a very young child you might enjoy the story of Hercules (Kevin Sorbo) search for his mother, who was kidnapped by Zeus, and wallow in wonder as the mighty Titans are released from their captivity to not only wreck hovic on the known world but take over Mount Olympus ... but anyone over ten years old will just bow their heads in embarrassment. The story is disjointed and there is absolutely no continuity to either live action television show. But more than these offenses the animation is HORRIBLE. How, you may ask, is it possible to turn Hercules and Xena (Lucy Lawless), two gorgeous looking people, into ugly characters? Watch this movie. Iolaus (Michael Hurst) and Gabrielle (Renee O'Conner) fair a little better but poor Gabby ends up as a giant bird through most of the movie!! The ending is unsatisfying as well. There really is NO emotional connection between the HERC and XENA cast in this movie and that's a shame because, in the live action show(s), the chemistry between these four characters is superb. I say if the studio decides to make another animated HERC/XENA movie, please put a little extra cash out and make it GOOD. You might surprize yourself and your loyal watching audience.

Summary: I actually liked it,
Review: The only reason i gave it only 4 stars and not 5 was the lack of Gabrielle. The Animation is fine. I like modern animation and this was a good example. I also thought that Xena's song in the middle of the film was great

Summary: Bad Everything
Review: There isn't ANYthing in this cartoon to recommend it.
The art is bad. The script is bad. The animation is bad.
The acting is bad. This isn't even "Sheena: Queen of the
Jungle" bad, it's just plain lousy. I tried to laugh AT it,
but couldn't.

Even the [money] I spent on this seems too much.
They should have paid ME for wasting my time like this.

Summary: What were they thinking?
Review: They took these two amazing television shows that has an average viewing age of 20 and made a poor-quality animated movie meant for kids around age 8.

Universal truly needs to get a clue. I mean the landscaping was cheap slops of paint on cels that were very far from realistic. And, while they may have some meaningful style for the creators or artists, they have nothing to do with the story or series. The animation is about the equivalent of the original Snow White (not cleaned up) with a Saturday morning cartoon quality. The characters do the most obnoxious things and I can see why Sam Raimi chose a "Executive Producer" credit instead of a director one.

Story: mediocre. Zeus abducts Hercules's mom and flies off to Mount Olympus just as Herc tries to stop them and fails. Hera, jealous at Zeus's audacity, steals a stone from a pedestal in the middle of the throne room. This stone is apparently the essence of Earth and the source of the Gods' powers. Hera unleashes the titans and they all climb Mount Olympus. Herc decides to save mommy by climbing Olympus. Artemis and Hades choose Xena as their hero after Herc turns them down. Aphrodite spends more time surfing her shell-board than making any sense. After that it all falls apart and it is a mediocre film. I rented it to see if it was worth the money. If you have kids who may have seen the series (doubtful) they will love this.

I am surprised they got away with the singing and the opening to the movie that is almost verbatim and identical in introduction as the Disney movie a few years ago...

Better animation and better story would have helped.
But Universal apparently did not look at this before they released it.

Oh, one last thing: they must have rushed through the coloration, as Xena's warrior suit is plain white with pencil outlines in a few cutscenes. How poor is that?

Summary: This is so baaaaaaad!
Review: This just sucked! Nothing like the TV show and a real snoozer. Totally for kids -- and even they will turn it off. Save your money!

Summary: Great Movie!!!
Review: This movie was excellent! The plot was not hard to follow although there were a lot of neat scenes and areas in which the plot thickens. I agree that the characters don't look to great and Xena's chakram only has dots, but technology isn't the whole movie it is the story that counts. I thought that they did a great job with the movie and I would always recommend this movie any die hard Xena&Hercules fan!!!

Summary: HORRIBLE, TERRIBLE, PATHETIC, and for little kids!!!
Review: What the heck was going through the minds of the makers of this film? To me, it's obvious that this film was made for very young children. As I watched in great disappointment, I thought about the fact that American cartoon producers intentionally make cartoons for children. If "Hercules and Xena" was made in Japan, it would have been waaaaaaaay better. How could anyone older than 8 enjoy this film. It's complete GARBAGE! When I returned the video, I felt embarrassed that I rented it in the first place. You'd think that an animated movie of Xena and Hercules would be one of the best straight to video cartoons ever. It's movies like this that make me wish I could go to Japan anytime I wanted just to have the chance to watch true animated movies and to watch them at theaters.Things that make "Hercules and Xena" so bad is the cheap animation, tore up story, and the fact that Xena who is a mere mortal beats up giants and gods just as easily as Hercules. The only reason I gave it one star is because they used the cast of the shows to do the cartoon voices and if I remember correctly, they used the background music from the show and also because you shouldn't really expect that much from a movie that's aimed at five year olds. However, they still should have aimed more towards a general audiance instead of little kids only. So unless you need some entertainment for 5 year olds, I'm sure it would be anybody's best interests to leave this crap alone.
