Summary: The worst action movie EVER
Review: I must have fell asleep atleast three times during this movoe. It did not meet the expectations i had heard. The action scences were out of context. If you like good movies, do not waste your time seeing this one.

Summary: Even Keannu Reeves couldn't screw it up!
Review: I usually hate Keannu Reeves with a passion, and his acting is truly unpleasant in most of the movies I have seen him in (A Walk in the Clouds - can you say not only cheesy, but rotten cheesy?). In "The Matrix," though, his dumb "I don't know what is going on" acting WORKS. I have seen this movie in the theatres 5 times, and in these days of highly overpriced theatre prices, this says a lot. I love the chic (Trinity) and think that she makes up for Keannu's acting. The special effects are visually stunning, and so new and fresh that you want to watch them again and again to absorb them all. The concept itself is really well done, although I had to watch it a second time before I caught all of the nuances. WATCH THIS MOVIE - Catch it on the big screen if you can. One of the best sci-fi movies ever.

Summary: hip new generation star wars, excellent adventure dude!
Review: ok, so the DVD 'ain't out yet, the movie rocks and I can't shut up about it! I went into the theater thinking it would be a moderately entertaining way to kill a couple of hours. Man was I wrong! This movie blew me away! Much has been said about the cult following the movie has generated and I'm proud to be counted among them. Basically, this is Star Wars retold for the millenium. The symbols and the archetypes are all there. You know what? It still works! The unexpected spin really, and I mean REALLY caught me off guard! Once you find out what the Matrix is, and trust me you don't know what it is unless yopu've seen it, you'll just about jump out of your seat! In one flash, the world that you know and feel comfortable in reverses in such a dramatic way that you will hang on every scene thereafter. Rumors are that this is the first part of a trilogy which has already been conceptualized and is currently in preproduction. This film ends like "Empire Strikes Back" in that there is a lot left to go for the story. I can't wait! Stunning visuals, great characters, awesome production design and a script so exasperating you won't have the energy to get up once the credits roll! This is anything but the mindless sci-fi schlock that Hollywood churns out by the dozen. This is a truly original film, albeit inspired by "Star Wars" as well as another major sci-fi film I won't mention to save the secret. Don't kid yourself, if you think you're a sci-fi fan, this is the film to watch.

Summary: Best movie ever? Great sci-fi? Absolute Garbage!
Review: I read in the Los Angeles Times recently a letter that a fan of the movie wrote commenting on The Matrix. He insisted that anyone who hated or disliked The Matrix doesn't understand science fiction and shouldn't be commenting on stuff they didn't know about. He was mainly refering to the acting of Keanu Reeves. Before I say anything about the movie, let's just get this over with: Keanu Reeves has ruined every single movie that he has been in with his wooden acting, if that's what you call it, and his obvious disdain for the medium of film itself. Enough on Reeves. As a fan of science fiction for over twenty years (film, books, etc) I felt ripped off by this movie. Even if Keanu Reeves wasn't in this movie, the story was nothing special - more like a bloated episode of the X-files with a bad guy who tried to talk like Reverened Robert Schuller (No - I am not a Christian - but even I was annoyed - bad overacting at it's finest example). Were the special effects good? They were nice for what they were. Good camera work? Nothing you haven't seen in a number of John Woo movies. I admit my complete hatred of Keanu Reeves acting skills largely disqualifies me from commenting on any of his previous movies - but I was hoping beyond hope - that just this one time he wouldn't ruin another movie for me. Well he was par for the course, and so was the movie.

Summary: Smoke gets in Trinity's Eyes
Review: I've watched it four times this far. And this film surpassedalmost 95% of the Sci-Fis I have seen in my entire life.

I'd like to add that I really enjoy the "love story" factor that plays minimal but vital part in this flick; as evidenced everywhere in the movie especially when Carrie-Anne gestured and looked into Neo's eyes. It can potentially be an extraordinary sci-fi love story.Great great film with flaws, but in the way I like it.

Summary: The Best Movie Ever Made
Review: Everyone should buy this movie...it is one of the greatest Sci-Fi films ever made. The story makes many powerful suggestions and really leaves you feeling like you could be "The One." Everyone does a great job, and the special effects and fight scenes are amazing! BUY it!!!!!

Summary: What is the matrix?
Review: This is the best movie I have ever seen in my life. The kung fu is excellent. The action is top notch. The soundtrack is awesome. The actors are great!!! The trench coats, dark clothing, and shades are cool.

Summary: I went to see it expecting an action flick.
Review: What I *got* was something that, while it does have spectacular special effects, also actually has a *plot*. The last notable movie I'd seen in theaters was Titanic, so you can imagine that it came as pleasant suprise. There's an element of wish-fufillment (like movies wherein the bully gets beaten up) in Neo's sudden freedom. I loved the use of color, action, shadow, suspense...pretty much everything. Reeves turned in a startlingly good performance, and every straight guy and gay/bi girl I know declares that Carrie-Anne Moss is both hot and a good actress. Little details really perfect many of the scenes, and often it takes several times watching it to pick up on them. It's definitely a movie worth watching, even buying.

Summary: People who use their brains will love this movie.
Review: Is the best acting? No. The best fighting? No. The most original idea? No. So what? How many other movies have any of these? Don't be so damn critical!

The fact is that regardless of how good/bad any one of these characteristics is, their combination makes this movie the best of the year, and certianly one of my favorite of all time.

This movie was not a Christian movie--thank God--but as a thinking Christian, I could certainly appreciate the many parallels of Neo's world and our own. This movie really hits on the concepts of perception, believing, hunger for truth vs. the hunger for deception, greed, and more.

It provokes thought, and it kept you thinking for hours after afterwards. This is quite rare in a movie.

I rarely like a movie enough to buy it, but I've already pre-ordered this DVD.

Summary: My very favorite movie of all time!
Review: A Sci-fi thriller that really keeps you interested through the whole movie. There does seem to be a generation gap however. Adults who have not grown up with computers do not seem to feel the essence of the movie as well as those who have. However, if yor mind is open, and you are looking for an exciting movie, this could very well be one of your favorites!
