Rating: Summary: The visual effects and music score ruin the movie.... Review: Well I recently rewatched this movie and I have to say that if they are moving forward with X3, they must improve the visual effects and music score. In this movie, they just do not work. They look too computer generated and the John Ottoman music score sounds so off base (long, drawn out, and it's almost a headage to listen too). If the visual effects do not look good when the characters use their powers, it just ruins the whole movie. I might be a bit spoiled, because most of the successful movies that I have seen in the last twenty years featured effects shots done at ILM and the music score was by John Williams. They have sort of became the standards which a lot of other movies of this genre are compared too and this movie was like many of the lesser sucessful Star Trek movies that featured so/so effects shots and weak music scores. If they make X3, I would urge them to give ILM a call and have someone else do the music score.
Rating: Summary: X2 Exception To The Rule When It Comes To Sequals Review: Usually sequels are not as good as the originals, sometimes they just flat out suck. This is not the case with X2, in fact it is better than the original. X2 grabs you from the beginning and smacks you around like the naughty child you are with an outstanding opening action sequence where Night Crawler breaks into the White House and tries to send a message to the president. This is by far the best action sequence of the year 2003. With the amazing special effects that actually make Night Crawlers teleporting look real, the exhilarating music track, and a** kicking action, it is obvious from the beginning that this is film making at its finest. The makers of both these films did such a great job in not only making the X-Men seem real, but they were able to present them in a manner that was not corny, and found a way around the multi colored spandex of the comic book. In addition, they stay very true to the comic book and in no where is this more evident in the portrayal of Wolverine and the intense rage he possesses. In fact during the scene when Wolverine was rumbling with the invading special forces in Professor X's school, I almost jumped out of my chair and proclaimed "OH GOD, YES!" X2 has great action, great writing, great directing, great production, and great acting. It is a must own and to date the greatest comic book to movie film ever made.
Rating: Summary: X2 Rocks! Review: The first X-Men set not only set the stage for more movies, it gave the genral public a nice glimpse of Stan Lee's Mutants. X2 pushes the limits when it comes to screenplay, special effects and storyline. Nightcrawler is a VERY welcome character. And they do a wonderful job of using him throughout the entire movie. The opening scene is perhaps one of the coolest in film of late. Can't wait till X3!!!
Rating: Summary: BAMF!!! Review: Truely one of the best sequals out there. A big thumbs up the Brian Singer for taking the X-Men serious and making a great series. Nightcrawler was amazing and the speical effects were right on target, not too big, not too small. Let's hope for a Wolverine spin-off!!!!
Rating: Summary: X-2 is Amazing Review: This movie is perhaps better than the first, and leaves you wanting more. While it would have been nice to have characters like Archangel and Gambit, X-2 features the hottest mutants around. And I'm not talking about Hugh Jackman's impeccably strong upper body. I enjoyed the scene with Colossus in it, and the focus on the students, which we don't always get to see as much as we should. This movie is worth owning for the great plot and amazing special effects, as well as the great actors.
Rating: Summary: 5 Stars! Review: The first X-Men movie was not what many fans had expected it to be, simply because the first X-Men movie was simply introducing the characters to the audience. The thing that X-Men fans do not understand about these movies is that these movies are not meant specifically for just X-Men fans; because it is a massive production, it will reach a much broader audience that know nothing of what the X-Men are. Story has to be changed a little, but the layers of stories and characters will remain. Many of the aspects from the original X-Men story may be changed or added, but this was done with careful consideration to fans. X-Men 2 picks up off where X-Men 1 left you, with the introduction of the main X-Men characters, Wolverine without remembrance of his origin, the love triangle between Wolverine, Jean Grey, and Cyclops, the differences between Magneto and Professor Xavier. Wolverine discovers his origin, as well as meeting his enemy and maker. The enemy in this story is not mutant threat as the first one, but rather the human side to evil, which is a nice touch. The school is attacked, and there is a threat to mutant kind. It shows new characters, new relationships and new alliances forming. Jean Grey is also evolving, which gives more insight into the next film. A new character is introduced, Nightcrawler, who is a much layered character and plays a significant part in the movie. One of the major aspects of characters in this movie, as a sequel especially, the same actors/actresses return to play their characters. New characters are introduced as well, many subtle and only known to those X-Men fans out there. Each character is based off the comics, layered and each with their own personal stories, powers, and struggles. Though the number of characters to remember may be boggling to some, the movie clearly shows who is who, and what those individuals are. This movie simply shows glimpses of new characters: Colossus, Hank McCoy (Beast), Shadowcat, who will no doubt appear in the next X-Men film. Action sequences are just awesome; they did not hesitate with special effects and stunts. It is constant set-up fight scenes, it leaves you just amazed and wondering on how they did certain effects. This movie does not leave you bored, and you have to see the movie to know what I am talking about. Let me just tell you that these action sequences are not to be missed. Some of the best so far that I have seen, even when compared to the Matrix trilogy. Wolverine actually kills people in this movie, something most people have been waiting for Wolverine to do. Besides being such an awesome, character-filled movie, with great storyline, and awesome action and effects, it is very well thought-out, touching on the issue that X-Men 1 touched on: acceptance. This goes further into that area and whole idea of being different, and being hated for that reason. One must watch this movie to fully understand. This DVD is a must for people who like this movie, or still haven't seen. It gives you the most incredible insight to the behind the movie, the thinking behind it, the ideas. It goes through action sequences, interviews with cast, and hours of other extras. Let me tell you that watching the movie, then the behind-the-scenes look really shows what kind of brilliant gem this movie is. It shows the origin of X-Men, comic books to movie screen, the story behind Nightcrawler, behind the effects of fight scenes, and more possible story lines for future X-Men movies. It also has commentaries from Bryan Singer, the director, and Newton Sigel, cinematographer, and writers and producer commentaries. The most significant feature is the ultimate making-of documentry. I have noticed many comments on the lack of closed-captioning. If you are deaf or hearing-impaired and need the CC, then you obviously have a TV that has CC on it. You don't need the DVD to have to do that for you. It wasn't a necessary addition to the DVD. Besides, it's too packed with other awesome extras to fit CC. The movie is awesome for X-Men fans, awesome for movie fans who want to see some action and excitement, a thoroughly good movie. This movie does what a good movie does for everyone: leaves you with questions of what's going to happen, leaves you wanting to watch the next movie. It just leaves you saying, "Cool". I truly give this movie 5 stars: 1 star for avoiding the lable of a typical bad sequel, 1 star for continuing use of same actors/actresses and new characters, 1 star for awesome action sequences and effects, 1 star for the story continuing from the first movie and blending it still with the original comic book stories while keeping character and conflict interest, and the last star for just pulling it all off so well and being such an awesome, well-thought, well-coordinated film. A movie that everyone, regardless a X-Men fan or movie fan, should watch at least once. Because if you like it the first time, it's guaranteed to watch it at least one more time.
Rating: Summary: Great DVD Review: Great DVD, I'm still watching it, loved the commentaries those are a must you have to listen to those because there are a lot of trivia you wouldn't know, like the danger room is actually in the movie!!! or archangel's x-rays. The movie's ending is diff. from the book. Some of the deleted scenes are in the book. The only thing they should have left in the movie that was cut out was when professor x was on cerebro vs mutants--the book and the commentatories said how they had Marrow, Beast, GAMBIT, etc. showing their pwrs. Cool blooper on "the making of" They answered in a dumb way the common sense questions fans asked like how come storm doesn't fly, jean, iceman, etc. I'm glad they said the actor played by magneto demanded to fly in the movie. They should invest in flying gear Crouching Tiger or Peter Pan (for I.E.)DON'T WASTE YOUR $MONEY on "beast"for the 3rd movie,!!!! no fan wants you paying all those millions for CG effect when you can add to someone else's pwrs, and if angel's in the 3rd movie don't make him look like those dinosaur x-rays!!!! that's terrible! keep it to the book with the hottie from the original five or archangel. pick a hottie please!Deleted scenes are okay not great!! Jubilee's they should have kept scene regardless if it didn't match her pwr. the art galleries are great!!!, We want to see some flying and more pwrs in the third one!!! ICEMAN wicked character, Rogue wicked character! use their pwrs more though!! it'd be cool if rogue at least had superstrength. Her image is so cool now!!!!!! Pyro, is he necessary they wasted all that money on him when they could've added to storm,or jean or iceman's pwrs. No offense Pyro, (sometimes this movie comes off SEXISTTTTT!!!!!!! AND YOU KNOW IT) NICE COOL FACTS. they show Storm's costumes (could have beens) along with her "new hairstyle" that was cut for that dumb wig. Halle tell them to talk to Lil Kim for a better wig, come on now!!!!! Anywayz i won't give it away but the hairstyle is in Uncanny X-men 270'ish could've worked but I like halle's hair shaking when she uses her pwrs more dramatic. I would love to see her in a mohawk since at that time she did have leather, plus she can work on combat more. Please make Phoenix's hair long for the 3rd. and fly!
Rating: Summary: One of the best superhero movies ever made Review: Xmen 2 is better than the first one. There is more action, more special effects, more mutants, and more of everything compared to the first one. I recommend this movie to anyone who likes movies based on comic books or even the average movie audience.
Rating: Summary: X2 Definitely Better Than The First Review: Without question, "X2" offers more exciting, action-packed sequences than the first "X-Men" film. It's one of the best films I've seen based on comics superheros. Bryan Singer deserves ample praise for his crisp direction. To his credit Singer does an admirable job delving into intolerance with the X-Men mutants providing a fantastic allegory with racial and religious intolerance. And of course Patrick Stewart is brilliant once more as Professor Xavier, with his old friend and nemesis Magneto (Ian McKellen), assuming a more important role in this installment, and McKellen's portrayal nearly as riveting as his Gandalf in "The Lord of the Rings" film trilogy. However, Alan Cummings almost steals every scene he's in as Nightcrawler. And I agree with a previous reviewer that it is Hugh Jackman's Wolverine, which provides the emotional heart of this film. I was never a fan of the X-Men comics, so I am surprised that I found this film quite engrossing and memorable.
Rating: Summary: Big improvement from the last........X2....and 3 soon to be! Review: Anyone who saw X-Men 1 and then 2 can clearly see the improvements made and that X-2 is better, no denying it this time around. I think what hurt X-men 1 is that the special effects werent as good as X2 although the storyline was strong. From start to finish there was action, drama, mystery and storyline within storylines. I think the directors main goal with this was to make it watchable and "easy to relate" to someone who has never followed the Xmen series before. Being that I have (Also a big Xmen fan), I payed close attention to how close the charaters followed thier actual description in the comic books. There are so many underlying messages brought up by the story line like discrimination, faith, religion, Trust, and Humanity. The main one being discrimination which many people can relate to. The intro is one of the coolest parts of the movie that takes nightcrawler to a whole different dimension. Overall they took Xmen to a whole different level with this one. Special Effects, Story line, the in-depth conflicts shown within each character, and timing of it all makes for a good movie. The ending alone is all you need to know that a Part 3 is definetly coming and from what i saw(phoniex), and the story and special effects are only about to get even better. Get It!
