Review: I particularly liked the parts in which the director and friends talk about what went on in each scene. I also liked seeing the different scenes that didn't make it to the Sci Fi version.

Review: While a great undertaking to create the rich world Frank Herbert described on the big screen I found this movie a let down. Sure the special effects and the look was amazing, so rich in colors unlike the darker version in 1984. But the audacity to "enhance" the original text with scenes not in the book was atrocious. Princess Irulan is a nothing character, yet she is depicted as a serious player in the grand scheme of things in this film version. WRONG! Frank Herbert didn't make her important therefore she is not. A simple pawn in man's game for power.
The director should have stuck closer to the book and he would have pleased more people with the outcome, aside from that his film was flawless in detail to look and feel of the gritty world of Dune.

Summary: ONE OF THE BEST SERIES EVER!!!
Review: This movie series is based off one of the greatest books in the sci-fi community this millenia. It is an outside of the box (not mainstream writing) and thought provoking for the viewer who is interested in a story of an imagination that surpasses the masses. Although the special effects are awsome, this movie was not budgeted for perfect quality special effects. Reviewers shall eat their own words when down rating this movie because they think the costumes are silly or the special effects are not up to its predecessors. The costumes are full of imagination and the special effects are pretty much as good as you are gonna get for the budget this movis had to work with.
This movie is one of the greats and should be viewed by anyone who enjoys great sci-fi. If you like Star Wars/Babylonian stories/Stargate/etc., you will love this series. This series is much more politically involved and is much less elementary in it's writings and imagination than such movies as Star Wars (though Star Wars is one of the greats). Any bad reviews on this movie series shall not be discounted, but are for the most part full of misinformation. Opinions are opinions, but apparently this movie is beyond the mainstream reveiwers comprehension and they do not understand the complexity and creativity of this series and probably never will. I love this series and the one following it, "Children of the Dune." Well worth the purchase. I would have payed 4 times what I did for it. Go buy it and watch it with your mind open. You must pay attention to the details for that is what makes the movie piece itself together and will make sense to those who invite a challenge the challenge comprehensiveness in the aspects the movies povide.

Summary: You folks kill me!
Review: Man, I can't believe the complaints the classy original
Dune film gets from all the pansy Uber-Dune "fans" -
and it is very disappointing to hear that Lynch himself
wishes he hadn't made the movie (!?). I feel bad when an
artist looses faith in his great own work...especially when
Herbert was himself present to be part of the FIRST
realization of his books on the screen! A presence
sorely lacking and obvious in the more recent efforts.Lynch's movie always held a grand vision
of the series for me. To gripe about how it
missed all the details (as if the movie adaptation
wouldn't have to be "days long" to convey on screen!!)
is to simply fail to enjoy what was delivered.
The movie should be given top marks for what it
did accomplish, which was a lot!
The current Dune stories - which I admit I "enjoy" -
lack the atmosphere and superior acting/actors which
graced Lynch's film. He used REAL desert scenes
and provided a visual feel which made me feel like
I was in Herbert's book! I give props to anyone
who wishes to continue to get their own vision of the
books on screen - but I feel that all the whiners who
pooh-pooh Lynch have simply missed his movie's qualities,
all in favor of these later 'extended' but under-budgeted
attempts. What do the newer versions lack??? SPICE!!!
The "spice" you had in spades from the contributions of Sting,
Kyle MacLachlan, Patrick Stuart etc etc. You guys just wish
someone as dynamic and captivating as Sting had graced
these new movies (I know I do! If you thought William Hurt
was a good Leto, you obviously don't aspire to much in an actor's
performance); instead there is no tension, no sense of maniacal
evil that put the edge on Lynch's version. Watching the new
movies is 'nice' - there are some nice touches - but the blood
never gets going(well, it appears to at times to get going with
Paul's children, who manage to thinly veil the books incestuous
undertones regarding their relationship).
The problems with die-hard "fans" is that they dissect and niddle
over details until all the blood is gone -
something I find tedious and at timed, kind of pathetic.

Summary: My Review Over "Dune"
Review: I saw this movie a long time ago. I don't remember it perfectly, but I do remember that I had thought that it was one of the best movies I had ever seen. I still agree with what I thought before. I am even going to buy the movie. I give this movie 5 stars.

Summary: Bad, bad, bad, ...
Review: The costumes are funny: there are triangles behind heads, cheap-looking polyester shiny clothes on the Imperial family, boat-sized hats, Irulan's butterfly party dress, and Paul's white bathrobe at the end (no wonder Newman looks so glum). Another major downer (and I mean downer!) is William Hurt. His performance was so dull, depressing, and somnabulistic, I dreaded seeing him. OK, so he's doing the role for the money. But it wouldn't have hurt him to show a slight interest in the proceedings. The production looked really cheap, and Harrison, the director, commented on this aspect. They should have saved some money by getting simple costumes, and not hiring Hurt!

Summary: Just plan bad
Review: This was one of the worst attempts at adapting a Science Fiction Novel. David Lynch may have not been perfect, but his attempt was far superior. Dune is a tuff book to present, but this mini series misses most of the fundamental themes and the casting is horrible. Read the book and you will agree.

Summary: Loved the books-but satisfying movie?
Review: I love the books, always have, but when I saw this Dvd in the store, I knew it was too good to be true. Was it? Maybe. I had to fast forward through some love scenes. (I'm 12, remember, and that stuff to me just ruins a good movie.)which kinda ruined a whole part, but the movie totally captured the true culture clashes of Dune. House Harkonnen was portrayed to a tee, although some of the Atreides stuff was a bit strange. Leto was a bit, shall we say, odd in his portrayal, but maybe that's just because I always pictured him so much differently in my mind. Oh well.
Otherwise, the underline here is, read the books first, THEN buy it. I'm just glad I didn't make that mistake! It'll fly over your head if you're not careful if you don't know the story, but Frank Herbert's classic relived on the silver screen was good, although too good to be true could be used. I give it 4 stars purely because some important parts of the books I enjoyed were completely left out. Sure, it couldn't be longer (ha!), but they could of lost the love scenes and switched to the better stuff. Everything on Arrakis was quite wonderful, and I am pleased to say Dune lovewrs like myself should give it a try. I'm sure you might see some mixed reviews, but that's okay. It still was pretty good, but could hardly rival the amazing structure and cultural wonder Frank Herbert has created!

Summary: Just not as good
Review: Although the plot is a little easier to follow in this version, I remain a diehard fan of the original adaptation of Dune...the casting was much better in the original (this Paul Atreides was not believable to me at all), and so was the set. Yes, the Lynch version has its problems, but it still has a better overall feel than this adaptation, which disappointed me greatly.
