Summary: AWESOME!!!!!!
Review: The first time I saw this I was glued to the screen. If I had to go pee I wouldn't even though it was a 3 hour movie. It was the most coolest fanasty movie I have ever seen. I think that it is personally worth your time and your money. Just the way it was filmed and how it did digital effects was awesome. I have seen it about 5 times and can't wait to go another time...if it did have an ending then it would be a 6 or 7 hour movie and that would be boring. I can't wait till the next movie comes out in December. And then the next one. I wish I could be in one of those movies because of how it is directed and the cast. It would be amazing! Even though it should of won best picture thats alright. But A Beautiful Mind was awesome also, so I have no regrets for that one. Lord of the Rings is the BEST!!!!*

Summary: A 30+ year wait
Review: I read the Lord of the Rings and the Hobbit for the first time over 30 years ago. I never thought they could be made into a movie that would really tell the story. It has been a long wait, but the result is definitely worth it. The only complaint I could possibly make is that I have to wait for the next part of the trilogy.

Summary: BEST MOVIE EVER!!!!!!!
Review: this is the second best movie you will ever see. (Aside from the movie Braveheart with Mel Gipson.) It's very simple, GO SEE THIS MOVIE!!!!!!!! Unfortunly it cut out a few parts but it was only a few. This is an amazing movie. If there was an A+++++++ rating for a movie this would be one of the only two movies that would get that rating!!! As an amazing epic film it deserved the Best Picture Award. Definitly over that stupid A Beautiful Mind. THIS PEICE OF CIMINATOGRAPHY IS THE BEST PEICE OF CIMINATOGRAPHY EVER!!! GO SEE THE MOVIE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Summary: Best Movie I've Ever Seen
Review: I can't rate the DVD, as it has not been released as of the writing of this review. Rather, this is a review of the movie itself.

I canNOT recommend this film highly enough. If the rating scale went to 10 Stars, I'd give it the maximum and beyond. I have been to see "Fellowship" seven times in theaters, twice on its opening day alone. I have never seen a film so well executed, coming from such a beloved book with such a loyal fanbase. Yes, there are parts that are missing, but nothing that affects the plot or furtherance of the story. Everything that should be there IS there, wrapped in a sumptuous package of gorgeous scenery and brilliant special effects.

The actors are all absolutely perfect for their roles, with special note going to Sir Ian McKellan as Gandalf (for which he received an Oscar nomination), Sean Astin as Samwise Gamgee, and Viggo Mortensen as Aragorn/Strider. Elijah Wood is a wonderful choice for everyman Frodo Baggins; his blue eyes are gloriously expressive. Sean Bean does an AMAZING job of portraying the struggling hero, Boromir; I've been a fan of his work for years, and fell even MORE head over heels in love with his acting abilities in this movie. Dominic Monaghan and Billy Boyd are sweet, adorable, hilarious, heartbreaking, and above all, BELIEVABLE as Merry and Pippin. If you don't love Scottish accents yet, just wait until you've seen this movie; Billy will make you a believer. John Rhys-Davies as Gimli is hardly recognizable, save for his voice, and like always, he melts into the role with his usual flair. Orlando Bloom plays Legolas Greenleaf, and if you have or know any teenage girls, you've probably seen his face plastered on their wall since the movie came out. Not only is he a feast for the eyes, but his portrayal of the heroic elven archer is truly amazing for one so new to the acting profession. He'll blow you away. Cate Blanchett and Liv Tyler (Galadriel and Arwen, respectively) bring grace and beauty to their roles. I have at least one friend who'd never read the LoTR series prior to seeing the movie, but wanted to learn Elvish and immerse herself in the world of fantasy because of Liv's performance.

Perhaps the most underrated performance - or, more appropriately, the least reported - is that of Hugo Weaving as Elrond. After seven viewings of the film, I always walk out of the theater and say to myself, "He was the BEST of them all." And that is a very hard distinction to make.

So by all means, buy this movie. Rent it first if you haven't seen it and still aren't sure. But this is truly a must-have for any DVD collection. Sure to be a classic of the genre, if it's not already. :D

Summary: Bored with the Ring Already
Review: First off, let me put it right on the table: I have never read "The Lord of the Rings", though years ago I did read "The Hobbit". Now I'm something of an anomaly in my family, because all the otherGuys'n'Gals did devour this trilogy. So really, for someone who never read it, I've certainly heard enough about it over the years. I know character and place names, the way children sometime pick up details about the parents' childhoods through hearing twicetold tales.

Twenty years ago, I saw the lambasted cartoon version of LofR. Well, contrary to what so many have said--I don't see the difference between the two! I mean, that wasn't SO bad, but this is not at ALL as good as I was led to believer. Don't get me wrong, I wanted to like this movie badly: after all, threee hours is quite an investment of one's time. But I felt cold and unaffected by the goings-on. Probably didn't help that I was there on an unsatisfactory date, either. But all the more reason to escape into fantasy, you see!

And the one detail that annoyed me more than anything else, was this: There are SO many scenes of an outstretched palm on which the ring is sitting. Every single palm--and there were several that had a go at this--was filthy dirty. One friend countered and said that I had to understand that folks were on this journey and would of course get dirty. But I turned right around and said, Yeah but this ISN'T a depiction of real life in the Middle Ages, it's a a fantasy. So why couldn't these people be clean? I had silenced my opposition.

Think you really had to be already into this scene to get much out of the adventure besides a stiff neck.

Summary: Excellent Adaptation of a Timeless Masterpiece
Review: This is one of the best movies I have ever seen. I was amazed at how well the screenplay flowed. There is no dead space in the entire movie. The only negative was the dramatization of Liv Tyler and her character, but I guess they would not release it without having some "chic" in the movie. True, the movie leaves out a lot of events from the book, but I beleive that no one would or could ever make a movie long enough to tell the whole story. Everone should see this movie and own this DVD.

Summary: An excellent film - but should you wait until November?
Review: Peter Jackson's LOTR has become an instant classic in the fantasy film genre. It justly received wide critical acclaim for its outstanding cinematography, faithful adaptation of Tolkien's material and ensemble acting.

Those Tolkienites who gripe about changes to Tolkien's must remember that material must be re-contextualized for the time. Do Tolkien fans miss Tolkien's original dialogue? Yes. Do I, as a Tolkien fan, think that said dialogue would come off as corny and unintentionally funny onscreen? Yes. It's a different time and Jackson also has to appeal to a mass audience. I think he balanced the interests of devoted fans and Tolkien virgins beautifully.

Other character changes and story revisions, particularly Arwen, have been the center of much controversy. Again, changes need to be made in order for the story to work as a film. Remember, Tolkien included an encyclopedic amount of detail in his books - there is no room for that in a film!

Jackson's LOTR is a great movie that stands alone. The ensemble cast works together beautifully, with Oscar-nominated Ian McKellen as a standout. Jackson should have gotten a special Academy Award for the extraordinary amount of exposition condensed into a 5-minute opening sequence!

So you should definitely get the DVD. The REAL question is - should you wait? There is a Special Extended Edition coming out in November, which will include 30 extra minutes of footage, including more background on Aragorn and more footage at Lothlorien. There will also be new Special Features, although those are still in development at this time. Since the special features on the Theatrical Edition and the SPecial Extended Edition will not overlap, true LOTR die-hards may want to invest in both editions.

Summary: DESTINED TO BE A CLASSIC
Review: This movie [pulls] you in within the first lines and never lets go!

I fell so in love with it, that I went to the theatre 5 times to see it(at last count)and am now reading the book, which is great!

This movie is quite true to the book, and manages to bring to life the fabulous world of Middle Earth and it's characters in quite a fantastic, striking and memorable way. I think Tolkien would be very pleased. (There is sooo much more in the books, though, but to put EVERYTHING in would take forever!!) Peter Jackson did a fine job deciding what to include and what to leave out and the movie moves along just beautifully, despite it's 3hr+ running time.

You don't even have to be the LEAST BIT familiar with the books AT ALL to completely fall in love with this story. Wonderful characters, breathtaking scenery, good vs. evil...this movie has it all and more. You will be left just dying to see the next one, but watching this over and over will keep you sated till "The Two Towers"!

Also, for parents, this is rated PG-13, and that is for violence. Ya know, good guys vs. bad guys stuff...nothing too gory; although some of the bad creatures are pretty hideously UGLY and so might scare the really little ones. But there's no vulgarity or sex scenes or anything like that, so no worries there. Just a good, old-fashioned fantasy tale of good vs. evil, friendship, love, courage, and how someone who seems so insignificant can change the course of the world. My 10 and 12 year-olds loved it and are reading the books with fervor now.

I also just totally fell in love with the movie, the characters, and the books after viewing this and it is sure to become my favorite movie of all time. You WILL NOT REGRET buying this one! SEE IT!!!!!!! BUY IT!!!!!! LOVE IT!!!!!!!
