Summary: A promising DVD
Review: As for the theatrical version- it is an amazing, breathtaking, view into the world that JRR Tolkien created 40+ years ago. Having seen the movie first, and then reading the book, I was able to get a unique perspective regarding the movie.
The first thing that a viewer has to keep in mind is that the movie, in its original form, was over six hours in length, which was, needless to say, too lengthy to show in theaters. Therefore, certain things, and I'm sure very interesting things, had to be left out. The viewer can take comfort in the fact, however, that what is left is the product of a series of cuts that ended up being the three hour epic that it is. Certain characters (i.e. Tom Bombadil) are omiitted in the film, however the film is extremely effective in portraying the book. So although the film is cut down, it is a masterpiece; a theatrical gem.
This DVD offers the oppurtunity to bring home this amazing masterpiece- what an oppurtunity! The DVD comes in two formats; widescreen and full screen. If you do not have a widescreen TV, I suggest buying the full screen version as it will not be "cut off" in terms of height, which some find annoying. This DVD incorporates some interesting special features, which are listed at the top of the screen. Among them is a sneak peak at the Special Exteneded DVD, which is going to hit stores November 10. This special extended version, according to lordoftherings.net, will be a unique version of the film with over thirty minutes of new footage incorporated into it.
Personally, I intend to buy both of these DVDs, one, which I have preordered now, and the other, which will come out November 10th. I will do this because I simply can't wait to own this masterpiece of a film.

Summary: Lord of the rings The fellowship of the ring
Review: I have seen many films over the years, but this film is a pleasure to watch, and the acting is first class.
It may take nearly 3 hrs to watch but you are glued to the screen for the entire film. I was not a fan of Tolkens work so when I went a saw the film I was not sure what to expect, in the end there is only one word to discribed this film. Amazing.
I will look forward to buying the DVD and watch this many times over.
I am counting the days till the second film is released.

Summary: Fellowship of the Ring
Review: The Fellowship of the Ring is an outstanding movie. It portrays Middle-Earth superbly and the special effects are fantastic. Peter Jackson has succeeded in making 'The Fellowship' very realistic and he has followed the book rather closely. New Zealand was an excellent choice for the filming of ' The Lord of the Rings' the countryside is beautiful. My favourite characters are Legolas, Arwen, Frodo, Merry and Pippin, who look how I imagined them to be. I can't wait for 'The Two Towers' to be released . I recommend this movie to anyone especially fans of Fantasy and Tolkien.

Summary: Vast Cinema Experience
Review: I enjoyed Lord of the Rings immensely. The acting was very good but it is the scope of the movie that impresses me more. The special effects are fantastic, the settings are inspiring but it is how the whole film is woven together that makes it deserving of five stars. When one contemplates how this was filmed in conjunction with the other two parts of the Trilogy it defies imagination how complex that must have been, and yet to produce a film of such quality demonstrates an attention to detail by Director and Producers alike. The movie is long, but so is the book. It leaves you hanging at the end, but so does the book. Criticism of these two points is not really justified when one appreciates Peter Jacksons efforts at being true to the original written works. Highly recommended.

Summary: Best Film Ever!
Review: The Fellowship of the Ring is the most amazing, wonderful movie that I have ever seen! I hadn't read the book when I saw the movie, but the movie was so good that it convinced me to read the book. Even though it forgot Tom Bombadil, It was ok any way. It would have been just fine with me if it was 5 hours long or longer. Right now I am on the Return of the King. It is a great series. So for those of you who haven't seen the movie or read the book, I suggest that you do!

Summary: WOWWEEE!!!
Review: What a movie! I've seen some good movies but this blows my top. The Actors are great, and they actually followed Jrr Tolkien. The screenplay is awesome, I love the costumes. This amazing movie has no flaw.

Summary: An Incredible Movie!
Review: This movie is an epic masterpiece! Though some might argue for the fact that it does not fully live up to the books, I strongly disagree. True, Glorfindel was replaced by Arwen, and the Old Forest/Tom Bombadil scene was omitted, but the attention to detail and impressive scenery and acting more than make up for it! The casting was great, and the special effects were fantastic. The storyline itself, as Tolkien wrote it, send you through a flurry of emotions. The movie draws you in as you watch the Fellowship move through Middle-Earth, and you become as joyful, greived, or frightened as they themselves are. This movie is well worth owning, and the soundtrack is just as great!

Summary: The best movie of 2001
Review: I guess it was too much to expect that Lord Of The Rings would win Best Picture Oscar but I think all movie buffs out there would agree with me that Lord Of The Rings was the best movie of 2001 or at least one of the best. I don't really like fantasy movies or books preferring non-fiction but I must say that this movie really blew me away. Though I've been told that the movie is not totally loyal to the book, I dare say that it has done justice to it. Peter Jackson's vision brought back good old fashioned movie making when movies were simply about the plot, the story and the deliverance of it and not about making money or feeding the ego of movie stars who just earned too much. The cinematography was amazing and the actors brought much depth and soul into a movie enhanced with loads of digital effects. Without Ian McKellen and Elijah Wood, the movie might have come across as another poor man's 'Star Wars'. All in all, this changed my mind about fantasy movies. Maybe it's not so bad to have a fantasy after all.

Summary: Definitely the best movie of 2001
Review: It really {blew} that this movie did not win best picture at the Oscars but for all true movie buffs out there, you'd know as much as I do that The Lord Of The Rings was definitely THE BEST MOVIE OF 2001. Though most of the movie used digital imagery, the actors themselves provided the depth and soul for the movie, thus really standing it out amongst other fantasy movies made in the past. Ian McKellen and Christopher Lee were simply fabulous as the good and evil wizards. Elijah Wood was adorable as the confused Hobbit out to save the world. All in all, Peter Jackson's vision brought back the good old days of film making where movies were simply about the movies and not about making money and big stars.

Summary: A Masterpiece
Review: Hollywood can do nothing greater than this movie. From cinematography, to score, to visual effects, special effects, costumes, to the actual adaptation of the novel, etc.
People who really loved the books will notice some minor changes or ommisions in this telling. Any serious fan will probably disagree with a few of these details. Nevertheless, an incredible amount managed to get into the movie and nothing serious was really lost. With my incredibly high expectations for this movie my expectations were exceeded.
