Summary: BUY IT!
Review: OK this is the all time best movie I have ever seen in my life! It takes the books to a whole new leveel! I saw the movie be fore I read the books, but after reading the books I can really tell this is one of thse few cases where you CAN NOT tell if the book anr the movie is better.
All the "movie magic" stuff they did on this movie came out great, the hbbits almost look real, the troll, the ocrs, the goblins, everything came out great. All the actres did fantastis. Elisha Wod did a great job protraying a SMALL hobbit who lives peacfully untill he inherits the one ring from his uncle Bilbo.
I absolutly can not wait till the 4 disc dvd comes out and untill the next 2 movies come out. IN this mvie you hear gullums voice, but you never see him. IN the next movie he is a big character. I wonder what he will look like...

Summary: The best movie of 2001 and 2002
Review: I'm sorry to say this movie is the only one that surrpassed my high expectations. It was better than Spider-man, Star Wars Episode 2, and Scooby Doo. This will definately be my 2nd favorite movie (behind the original Star Wars) can't wait for Two Towers wich I hear is going to be better. Enjoy the success while it lasts LOTR because Star Wars Episode III is comin you're way. Great movie a must see!

Summary: Wait till November
Review: I am sure this DVD set will be great. However, if you can wait until thanksgiving you will be much happier. Lord of the Rings: Extended Edition and DVD Collector's Gift Set are scheduled for release the second week of November. This will be a 4-disc set with lots and lots of extra features. Most important you will get a 208-minute extended cut version of the movie in both Dolby Digital EX and DTS ES audio. In addition you will get so much other stuff you will be the most knowledgeable guy on the filming of the Fellowship of the Rings when the second film hits theaters in December. So wait if you can or you will end up with two DVD sets of the same movie.

Summary: A true masterpiece
Review: Well, I was blown away completely by Peter Jackson's interpretation of The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring. Everything was so perfect and exactly as I've pictured it for years. As a true Tolkien addict/scholor/devotee, it would take a lot to make me happy. And let me tell you, I'm ecstatic. Middle-Earth was brought to startling life and clarity in this first installment of the epic that is Lord of the Rings. I was dissapointed about the exclusion of several characters. However, I understand the necessity of this. The acting was superbly done; Elijah Wood donned Frodo's personality perfectly. The costumes were incredible. You know that the costume is done well when you see Sam and you don't think : "Oh, well, that's a hobbit costume". But instead, you don't even realize its a costume. It's just a thread that is woven into the tapestry of Middle-Earth. It's all real. You forget that you're sitting in a theater and partake in the quest of the Fellowhip. I've never cared so deeply about characters then in this intricate and wonderful story.
I always hate it when people think that Galadriel is some sort of witch or sorceress. Whenever I hear that, I want to pound my ax and yell: "Speak no evil of the Lady Galadriel!"
But that's how Gimli described her when walking through Lothlórien, but, you have to remember, dwarves don't like elves. They haven't for thousands of years. That was Gimli's presuppositions coming through! Tolkien was adament that elves did not use "magic" as we would characterize it. Forgive me for ranting.
Anyway. . . I'm looking forward to getting the extended edition in the mail from Amazon.com! And looking forward to the Two Towers!

Summary: Enchanting
Review: ...Peter Jackson captured the essence of the book perfectly: from the lively town of Hobbiton to the desolate kingdom of Mordor.

But, being a musician (not professionally) myself, it was the score that touched me most. Howard Shore was an ideal composer for the soundtrack, and even Enya mustered up enough talent to perform relatively well. Every piece was beautiful. Some, like Concerning Hobbits, begged for laughter. Others, like A Knife in the Dark, was at once terrifying, enthralling, and magnificent. It added depth and emotion to the film - qualities which were already abundant.

The actors were superb. Except for a few tiny slips, they were flawless. The main characters were not valiant or heroic (except, maybe, for Aragorn), as is portrayed in most films of today. They were merely human. They felt fear, joy, regret, anger. They were not 2-dimensional characters, more to grace the set than to present a story.

Most important was Jackson's judgement. The book was carefully transferred into film. Some aspects were changed or removed, of course, but the best were retained. After all, they only had 3 hours to work with; we cannot ask for more. It was fascinating to see the characters - which I could only imagine before - come to life on the screen.

Tolkien would be proud.

Summary: The Lord of the Rings is a must-have.
Review: I've read the books, watched the cartoons, even played the old SNES game of LOTR. So, when It came to the theaters, I went to see it and I'm really impressed with it. I was amazed at how these people recreated JRR Tolkien's world of the Hobbits. It was exactly how I had always imagined it would be. This is a Fantasy story that young and old alike will love. It's a tad long but well worth watching. I highly recommend it to everyone.

Summary: Amazing film
Review: Lord of the Rings is without a doubt the best film of our generation. It is the best movie I've seen since the original Star Wars films. This film is unlike anything that has ever been done before, and if you haven't seen it you owe it to yourself to experience this film.

Summary: I have seen the first DVD and here's my review!
Review: My video store got an exclusive copy of the first disc out of the 2-disc set of LOTR:FOTR. I rented it because the owner is my best friend. The quality of the DVD is very sharp and detailed with the picture and the sound quality is AMAZING!I've got a question, are they using EX surround on here, because it was a superb soundtrack. The menus are cool, the DVD artwork on the disc is pretty cool (it has Frodo holding the ring in his hand), the WIDESCREEN version is definitely the way to go for this movie, because if you get the crummy full-frame edition, then you'll miss all the beautiful scenery! The DVD is ANAMORPHIC and presented in 2.35:1 aspect ratio. Check this DVD out, because you will not regret it. The first half of the movie is kind of boring, but you'll get into it!
