Summary: A true classic
Review: The Lord of the rings: the fellowship of the ring was an amazing adventure I loved this movie so much. As a student at The Art instutute In L.A. I'm studying Film and learning to become a future director what I loved about this movie was the cinematography the score (music) and the Visual Effects. I love Fanatsy films alot actually i'm upsest with that genre this movie featured sequences that I would never had thoght could fit you see many of the past fantasy films that I have seen like steven spielberg's Hook and Ridley Scott's Legend don't have so much the adventure type and the action of course i understand that these movies were made in a time when it was not possible to create vast scenery and creatures with alot of detail like today with computers but still they were great movies with awsome storytelling and enjoyable music and i do recomend these movies to as thay made an impact in my life they made me have a love for these kinds of storytelling. The fellowship of the ring had all the kind of stuff I love to see in movies weather it is the score or the special effects it all blends in beautifuly. When I went to go see the first one I knew that I had taken a risk in going to see something that I was not familiar with but I'm a risk taker so I went and saw it after I was in shock and awe by the whole movie I became upsest with the whole Lord of the rings thing. I could not tell you how anticipated to get this DVD I was in I just had to get my hands on it and I have never gotten like this with any movie but this one was so great it was very well put together and well I just thoght it was really cool. I f you are planning on buying this movie do so it is an amazing adventure and if your like me you'll soon find out why I fell in love with this movie in the first place. I give it 100 stars it and 5 thumps up for it is a true classic.

Summary: A Release Worthy of Prime Placement on your Shelf
Review: My wife and I loved the theatre version of the Fellowship, but the Extended Version was better in many ways; the extra focus on the Shire and the gift-giving in Lorien especially come to mind.

The additional information (2 whole DVDs worth!) was worth far more than we paid for the entire pack. We watched it while holding our crying newborn during the wee hours. Our favourite part was watching the movie with the cast commentary.

Summary: The begining of something great!
Review: This movie is unbelievable! The action scenes are extended, the story unfolds according more to the book, the sound track is now in 6.1 DTS-ES (which is important to a HI-FI junkie like me), and get TWO discs of bonus features, with behind the scenes featurettes, a sneak peak and the video game and the Two Towers, and even some hidden easter eggs. Wait, you should already know that this movie is GRRRREAT (unless you live under a rock), but the extended version is better!

Summary: One ring to rule them all...
Review: "The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring (Platinum Series Extended Edition)" is one masterpiece. It will take your home theater to its limits. While the picture quality is excellent on this DVD, it is not quite up to "Star Wars: Episode II - Attack of the Clones" quailty. Nevertheless, the transfer is very well done.

However, the soundtrack is what makes this DVD really shine. The DTS-ES 6.1 soundtrack is simply amazing. The surround speakers are continuously active throughout the movie, the LFE (low frequency effects) will have your subwoofer jumping, and the musical score will take over your emotions. The soundtrack is like nothing you have heard before. During any battle scene, you'll be impressed at what your home theater can really do. And since this DVD is mastered on the "hot" side, you'll notice that you'll have the volume nob lower than what you normally have it at.

The extras are also very well done. They provide many hours of information on how they made "The Lord of the Rings" come to life, and even include a hidden "The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers" trailer! And not the mention the MTV spoof, very funny!

Overall, this is a DVD to own. It has excellent audio and video quality as well as tons of extras. Definitely a must-have DVD!

Review: This movie is such an amazing film the cinematography the score the visual effects all made the movie so beautiful and grand. ...I just couldn't believe my eyes it just incorporated all the aspects that I love in movies I was excited to see them all together the music the camera size 2:35:1 (widescreen)and the visual effects you see not that many movies incorporate that I hoped that the extended version would be rated r for graphic violence but i was wrong...i'm definatly buying the extended edition I'm a movie buff and it will be wise for you the first time buyer to buy the extended edition with the whole extra 30 minutes and DTS 6.1 suround sound ...and I recomend anybody who is a fantasy lover like me to buy this beautiful and cinematic achivement.

Summary: The Stars Were aligned when they made this film!
Review: There's a reason why the story of the Hobbit is called "There and Back Again" because when it comes to the Lord of the Rings, you'll revisit this story over and over again. I have the Extended DVD which totally rocks! The stars seemed to have aligned perfectly when Jackson's team and the cast of actors in this film got together and made this wonderful movie...all three parts nonetheless! The visual imagery is incredible! Completely stunning. The costumes, the mannerisms of the races of Middle Earth, Legolas and that archery work -- and most beautifully done was Howard Shore's film score which completely encaptured the emotion of the film. I have never heard music so brooding and so eloquent that it absorbed into your senses. Enya's "Aniron" is lyrical, sweet and soulfully ethereal that it gives me chills every time I hear it.

While all the actors in this movie did a wonderful job, I'll have to say the one who really made his mark is Elijah Wood. This movie was his baby. He was the one who stood out -- not just because of his gorgeous blue eyes, either. He is Frodo Baggins! Have you ever watched a movie and go, "They couldn't have picked a better person to play that character. He totally fits that role!" It's amazing how he got the role. Peter Jackson was casting and still hadn't found his Frodo, then all of a sudden this audition video shows up. The rest is history. As I said before, the stars were aligned! His true colors come out in Frodo Baggins, and by his performance, you can tell that Peter Jackson took full advantage of those abilties. I still think his best role is Mikey Carver from Ice Storm.

It's not often you come across big scale, epic movies with lots of action and emotional drama at the same time. The orginal Star Wars Trilogy was that way. Good dramas tend to be smaller films and more intimate. Big scale block buster movies tend to be action buffs devoid of drama. Lord of the Rings seems to defy that rule. It has both, and I do not envy Peter Jackson's task for trying to keep those elements together: satisfy the Tolkien fans, keep true to the story as much as possible, work long hours, change the script a bazillion times, work with big sets all over New Zealand with big crew, big cast, extras, stuntmen, props and costumes made with excrutiating detail (and not just one but several sets of the same), make the music perfect to suit the theme of the movie, pressure of success of the film because New Line put a lot of money on the line...and to do that with all three movies in the span of little over a year not shot in any sequential order....whew! That's a tall order to handle. Thank God Jackson was blessed with a brilliant cast and crew. Otherwise, this movie could have fallen flat on its face.

Then why does it seem to me Fellowhip didn't get its proper due? It won a measely 4 out of 13 oscars. This deserved at least 7 -- just for the reasons I mentioned above. Think about the effort that went into making this a success. Academy, what's with you, Mon?

But the best thing overall about Lord of the Rings is the positive experiences that came out of this film, not just the oscars and the financial success. If you read the interviews from the cast, everyone had a great time doing this movie no matter how tiring it got to be. There's a lot of honest pride in this film, and it shows. It was a huge team effort and great friendships came out of it. That is not something you see in Hollywood everyday. If I were an actor, I would have definitely wanted to work on this movie set. It would be the envy all over Hollywood. Lord of the Rings has hit home in the hearts and minds of people all around the world. So in retrospect, one little statuette couldn't do justice to that type of influence. This movie is phenomenal!

Review: and what i mean by that is this . . . i fell asleep on the movie THREE times. THREE!! and that being the case i suggest watching this movie at your own risk. what i really am most disappointed about in this movie is that it was really long . . . and i wasn't expecting that. i just wish i was warned about that. and i haven't seen the sequel and and don't know when i will . . . only after it comes on cable a couple of times . . . because the sequel is longer than this one

Summary: absolutely magnificent!!!
Review: I think that The Fellowship of the ring was just great and was the best movie of 2001. This should have won an Oscar for best picture, actor, director, and even supporting actor. All of the acting was great, and everyone was perfect for their role. The only problem of this DVD are the theatrical trailers: there weren't any. In the two-disc DVD, there were theatrical traiers, and all of the TV commercials. That was great and should have been on the four-disc set. What's the point of having four discs for one DVD, if all the special features the buyer really wants aren't there? Hopefully, the four-disc extended version for The Two Towers will have all of the previews and commercials. Overall, I would recommend this DVD to everyone.
