Summary: 3 1/2 stars..."Destroyer" definitely being the high point!
Review: This DVD marks the "Americanization" of the ending of the 1990s Godzilla films, and it is definitely a mixed bag. I've already gone into detail about the dreadfulness of "G. vs. Space Godzilla" (short synposis...forget it!), but "G. vs. Destroyer" makes it quite worth the investment. While not the greatest of the Godzilla films, it is nevertheless a fine effort, especially since it recalls parts of the majesty of the original 1954 "Godzilla". The appearance of the late Momoko Kochii (who reprises her role as Emiko Yamane from the Toho classic) is wonderful, but perhaps even more so are the black & white flashbacks of the great Akihito Hirata, one of the greatest and most recognizable of the original kaiju eiga actors, in his immortal role of the tragic Dr. Serizawa, whose terrible Oxygen Destroyer resurrects itself in the modern day with enormous consequences.

"G. vs. Destroyer" is of course most known for the death of Godzilla (until the 2000 sequel, anyway), which musically is treated with the proper respect by maestro Akira Ifukube, who wrote most of the epic "Godzilla" scores from the very beginning. While knowing that Godzilla will eventually perish at the climax of this film, it is nevertheless hard to watch him die, as even one not closely affiliated with Japanese monster movies almost inevitably feels the sadness of an old friend passing. Like it or not, Godzilla is a part of our Western pop culture as well as Japan's, so perhaps it's only fitting that even an American might pause for a moment and reflect on the enormous influence this character has had on us...even if he is a radioactive lizard. Domo arigato, Godzilla, for putting your thunderous footprint on the lives of more than a few of us gaijins. Banzai.

Summary: Godzilla Vs. Destroyah
Review: What can I say that hasn't been voiced yet. the very first day that my video of Godzilla Vs. Destroyah arrived I watched it 6 times back to back. I couldn't get enough! Godzilla at his best. now I look forward to the 23rd movie to be released on tape. This Movie is a must see for any Godzilla fan. for me it awakened that child in me remembering those saturday afternoons watching Godzilla on my old b&w tv set ,wondering if Godzilla was going to save or destory the earth. This is a great movie for both parent and child to see together. I just loved it.

Summary: The End of the Hesi-Godzilla Film series.
Review: This is it. The final call for the G-Film series that started with Godzilla 1985. Godzilla's nuclear power is slowly destroying him and he must do battle with Destroyra, a monster born from the Oxagen destroyer weapon that once ended Godzilla's life before. When the final battle is ended so has Godzilla's existence. (Like anyone cares by this time).

Summary: The new Godzilla series
Review: What a change. These movies differ completely from their ancestors in the sixties and sventies. Despite the fact that Godzilla is a desastrous creature, it becomes somehow a friend of mankind. The new introduced G-Force gives a nice - whereas also harmless - framework for the human actors of the movie. The picture quality is very good as is the sound. If you know the places in Japan it's fun to watch how Space Godzilla destroys Fukuoka on Kyushu island and Destroyah is planing Ariake - the big fairground in Tokyo, an artificial island in Tokyo bay, build of GARBAGE. Guess what the director thought... I was most amazed by the turn of the story towards the 'good' Godzilla and for lovers of these movies it's - IMHO - an absolute must. But I also have to underline what many other reviewers wrote: Why does the DVD contains only the bad English dubbing?? Why no original Japanese?

Summary: the best godzilla movie untill godzilla 2000 starts a new ch
Review: this is a great movie. I like the fact that the godzilla movies now have real story plots and make more sense not to say that the old ones were not good but they were more of a kids movie and they made godzilla a good guy. NOW all of the godzilla movies from 1985 thrue 2000 and on followed the original movie and acted as if none of the other movies have ever taken place. SO I guess if thats the way TOHO is taking it Mabe we will see another KINGKONG VS. GODZILLA MOVIE. but the ending of this movie was cool it showed GODZILLA HAVING A MELTDOWN BECAUSE OF THE RADIATION LEVELS. AND IT SAW THE RISE OF THE NEXT CHAPTER WITH LITTLE GODZILLA BECOMING A TRUE MONSTR AND HE BEGINS TO TAKE OVER WITH GODZILLA 2000. WHICH IS SHOWING IN THEATERS ON AUGUST 18 IN AMERICA. THIS MOVIE DESERVES 2000 stars mabe more so buy it

Summary: When did the Big G's son die?
Review: I have been a fan of the Big G (Gojira/Godzilla to those who don't know) for a very long time and this is the only one to bring me to tears. I loved every second even though I knew that G would die at the end of it all. What I really had a problem with is the fact of G's son dieing, something I remember differently from the Japanese dub where it stated he was hurt (please correct me if I'm wrong here) very badly. Though definately surviving. This was deliberate to make a sequel in which the Big G's son stars in (Gojira Millenium). Still, despite this it is a very enjoyable movie and if you are like me, have the kleenex handy, you may need it.

Summary: The Saddest Day
Review: You can truly feel Godzilla's pain when Junior is killed. And when Godzilla's nuclear heart finally melts down, it's the saddest day that ever dawned for G-fans.

The only way to see this movie is in the original Japanese, subtitles if you need them. The dubbing on this is not bad, but the Japanese is just the best. And this film features the scariest Godzilla foe since Rodan. Watch. Learn. Weep. Wait for G-2000.

Summary: GODZILLA DIES ON SCREEN, BUT NOT OFF SCREEN
Review: When I first heard about this film, I hated and said I would never buy it. Why? BECAUSE GODZILLA DIES! I been a G-fan since Kindergarden I'm in the 6th grade now)and he was going to die. He's better than even King Kong! But this was because I thought the series was going to end. But soon I heard about and waited for "GODZILLA" (1998, and I must say I was really disaptend). And "GODZILLA 2000: MULLENIUM" (1999) has been relased, and is going to be relased in U.S.A. on August 11, 2000. Plus, Toho has annouced it's seqale, "GODZILLA VS. MEGAGUIRAS: G-ERADICATION OPERATION" which sould be relased in Japan this December.

When I bought "GODZILLA VS. DESTROYER", it was preety good. And with Godzilla Jr. still alive, it just goes to show you: You can't keep a popular monster down.

Summary: Good-bye, sweet king.
Review: This was the saddest thing I've ever seen! I hardly ever cry, but I couldn't help it! It had spectacular SFX (waaaaaaaaaaay better than those cheep modern Gamera films)! This isn't a must-see, it's a can't-miss!

Summary: Say it ain't so! (sob)
Review: Godzilla returns for the seventh, and last time in the final entry of the Heisei series. At the end, watching Godzilla's poignant demise, I was on the edge of tears. The only thing to dull the pain is that this is one of the best ever; only Godzilla vs. Mechagodzilla II was better. Kenpachiro Satsuma delivers another awesome performance as Godzilla, Koich Kawakita creates some excellent special effects using more CGI than ever before, and Akira Ifukube delivers another beatiful score to accenuate the tradgedy of the mighty Godzilla's demise. The movie is well done altogether, Destroyer looks very evil, and Godzilla Jr. is a far cry from the stupid, cheesy Little Godzilla of Godzilla vs. Spacegodzilla. The final scene, as Godzilla poignantly melts down, is the best directing work Takao Okawara has ever done, and it is a high note on which to end the series. Godzilla 2000 will come to theatres this August, though, so keep a brave heart, Godzilla can't be stopped by something so minor as death.
