Summary: I've waited a decade for this!
Review: If you haven't seen the full version of Aliens, then you need this! I still have the tape from '88 when the full version was aired on CBS; it's THAT good! (meet Newt's parents, Ellen's daughter, and my favorite plot hole that gets filled... sentry guns! plus more!) As for the box-set, suffer through 3, again, and enjoy the directors cuts of 1 and 2, and take another look at resurrection (it wasn't as bad as insurrection ;-).

Summary: It's about friggin time!
Review: Let's face it, when most of us bought DVD players, we were asking ourselves the same question. "When will the Star Wars & Alien Trilogies be put onto DVD?" Well, although Star Wars still isn't out, at least we have the second half of the question coming our way, and with the fourth movie as a little bonus. Not much of one, but one none the least. Of course, I do have my complaints. For example, the first Alien movie, today, looks terrible. The visual effects are awful, and the sets look almost identical to some of those in "Airplane 2." The third one gets a little slow at times, and whenever I watch it, I imagine Hunter S. Thompson looking at Ripley and saying, "I was just admiring the shape of your skull." And as for the fourth one... well... it did have a few nice plot twists, and the highly cinimatic camera work was astonishing, but it lacks the dark and uneasy atmosphere that shocked audiences with the first three. But then again, if you go ahead and buy the box set, you not only have the Alien creatures we've been loving to see get torn apart for so many years now, but you have these aliens starring in four completely different kinds of films. First, the horror movie, Alien. Then the greatest Directors Cut ever made (and one of the most famous action films of all time), Aliens. Next, a great psychological thriller, Alien 3. Then the comedy thrill ride, Alien Ressurection. All we need now is a musical or romance Alien movie, and we'll be all set. (:So my final review is four stars. I would have given it five, just because the directors cut of Aliens brings that much more life to an already powerful film. But with the other three lacking in the ways mentioned above, I had to knock it down a notch. Just the same, even if you're not already a fan of the Alien series, I highly recommend this box set, or at least get yourself Aliens. Very few movies have ever been this exciting.

Review: I haven't seen the dvd versions yet - but it doesn't matter what additional material they deliver: the movies alone are worth the money! My personal favourite is Cameron's second, 'Aliens'. It's the most kinetic movie ever! Masterpiece! 'Alien' is close behind. Fantastic. The fourth, 'Alien - Resurrection' is still a very good movie, lacks power but has Darius Kondji's fantastic camerawork and Jeunet's cool direction. Not as bad as most people think, the third one is still a good and entertaining movie. The box proves that Alien, along Star Wars and Indiana Jones, still is the best movie series ever!

Summary: Predictable Series Gets Just Desserts. Released In Box Set!
Review: What do you get when you put great special effects with a poor story line? Eye Candy. This series wouldn't sell any other way. To sell all four videos they needed to release it in box set form. Sad but true. One must wonder what if Star Wars was this way (another terrible series but is much more respected by myself.) In fact it is sad that it was released in Box Set form. But not surprising.

Review: This line of movies is a total success in my book! I've seen "Alien" through "Alien Ressurection" and loved them all! I can't wait for the next movies to be released. I think the best of the four current Alien movies would be the second: "Aliens".

Summary: THE MOST POPULAR SCIENCE FICTION SAGA EVER!
Review: I saw Ridley Scott's "Alien" when I was about ten. I'm eightteen years old now and when I watch this movie I still marvel at the effects when the alien creature makes it's first horrific appearance at the dinner scene. (If nobody knows who R. Scott is, he is the brilliant mind behind "Gladiator" and his most recent project is the soon to be released sequel to "The Silence of the Lambs", "Hannibal." James Cameron's movies ("Titanic", "Terminator", "T2", "True Lies", "The Abyss") are all great Hollywood achievements, but it is my opinion that his "Aliens" sequel is his most effective. Plot: Ripley, the only survivor of the first "close encounter" returns fifty-seven years later to planet Earth. How is this possible? Watch the movies and you'll see. Ripley discovers that everything she knows and cares about is long gone . . . and every night she is plagued by the nightmares of the alien. She joins a team of rough "grunts" (a.k.a., MARINES) to wipe the acid-spewing species out once and for all and also to rid herself of the nightmares. Very scary effects -- although I think Cameron wanted to make this installment more of an action movie than a science fiction film. Alien 3 is fun to watch-- but absolutely not a "must keep." This film deals with a totally new breed of Alien, and a totally new team of roughs-- this time not Marines, but death-row prision inmates locked away on a far, dark planet for unspeakable crimes. In this third installment, you don't care for the characters as much in the first one or the second-- although Sigourney Weaver was immortalized due to her scary crew cut. Alien Reserection is the worst of the bunch-- but it is fun to watch only once in the WIDESCREEEN format, then never again. Stupid characters and sloppy dialog, in addition to Ripley's Alien offspring that resembles a puppy more than a head-crushing monster, I think. Pretty cool slime in this one, however.

Summary: Nice and simple box set.
Review: This is the much older Alien Legacy box set containing the oldest DVD editions of the four Alien movies and offers little of anything new in terms of DVD extras. The Quadrilogy is far superior on every level. Alien: This 1979 classic is my second favorite with the crew of a research ship being killed one by one by a menacing alien. Aliens: This 1986 sequel is even better! I love all four movies and this is highly recommended if you have spare change.

Summary: Super! At last we have a definitive DVD set.
Review: As a movie buff I just adored the "Aliens" movies. I can hardly believe that Alien was released 20 years ago. Viewing the four movies, in one sitting has slightly altered my impression of them. If anything I appreciate them even more. I am not sure that these are horror movies though. I see them as an excellent Sci-Fi series. They merge together very well, unlike the Star Trek movies. What we see is a story presented in 4 chapters. One of basic themes, through out, is the government agency wanting an alien. This "request" appears in Alien, and is covered in all the movies. The quiet beginning of Alien sets the scene, with the explanations well done. Then the pace picks up, slowly and relentlessly at first. Then you hit Aliens. With the extra footage added, this seems even faster than before. It's difficult to imagine a more forceful movie. The pace is exhausting. Then the cooling down with Aliens 3, this movie had me on the edge of my seat, so creepy, you just knew something was about to happen - but when?. Alien Resurrection a good final(?) chapter. I felt that the boxed set was superior to the Laser disc sets, I had only the last 3 to judge. Is this set worth the money? certainly, and then some. Very well transferred, and very welcome. I had thought that Fox was joining the DIVX camp, and had just about given up hope. So thank you to Fox, a very worthy effort and much appreciated. One last thought, Sigourney Weaver deserves an Oscar for this series. She is very good in these movies, very convincing. Other actors have been awarded Oscars for far inferior performances.
