Summary: Possible Format Problem
Review: I have a Tosheba DVD player and I had a conflict with the "ALIEN" movie. I could load ALIENS through ALIEN RESURRECTION, but I could not get the first movie to load. It would lock up my machine and I would have to unplug the player to get the DVD out. So be aware that there are potential conflicts with the "ALIEN" DVD.

Review: I just received the set, and have checked out the Alien disc - fantastic, maybe the best DVD I have seen so far. The longest, most meaningful deleted scenes I have seen, tons of conceptual artwork, first-class menu, directors commentary, and an excellent conversion you won't beleive was filmed in 1979. The producer of this DVD set should get an Academy Award.

Summary: GREAT BUT WATCH OUT FOR THIS PACKAGE
Review: A great series but please note that this collection leaves out some of the features found on the individual discs. This is especially true of Alien.

Summary: Fantastic!
Review: Absolutely fabulous! The DVD picture is crystal clear. The sound superb. And there is a plethora of bonus features. Roger Ebert picked "Alien Legacy" as his video pick of the week which makes him a more astute critic than Leonard Maltin whose idea of a good time is "Priscilla Queen of the Desert". Most science fiction flicks mirror the societal changes occurring during the era in which they were made. "Alien" is an allegory for the metamorphosis of the feminist movement. Prior to the 70s the role of women in science fiction movies was primarily ornamental or victims. They were threatened by the creature and shrieked in terror and swooned into the arms of the alpha male who slew the critter. Things began to change during the 70s in "Andromeda Strain" with Kate Reid playing a scientist who was just as competent and aggressive as the males. Then we had "Star Wars" with Carrie Fisher as Princess Leia who fought the evil empire on an equal footing with Mark Hamill and Harrison Ford. "Alien" was the first science fiction movie starring a woman, Sigourney Weaver as Ripley. The last scene in "Aliens" where Ripley as the Amazon goddess warrior clad in her suit of robotic armor screaming "Get away from her you bitch!" at the female monster as she defends Newt is the apex of the women's movement. We have a female dragon, dragon slayer, and dragon munchies. The biggest debate is which of the 4 movies is the best. Most agree that the last two aren't in the same league with "Alien" and "Aliens" and most give the nod to the latter. For me it's the first with the alien bursting out of John Hurt's chest screeching defiance and methodically killing the entire crew of the Nostromo excepts for Ripley who dispatches it in her underwear. But I was glad to see James Cameron get the Oscar for "Titanic" that he deserved for "Aliens". Too bad Sigourney didn't get the Oscar she deserved.

Review: I had my order for this set placed well before its release, and the question I asked myself was - was it worth the wait? Yes! This is the best DVD boxed set I have seen - two great movies (Alien and Aliens Special Edition) and two good (and growing on me) movies with plenty of features, anamorphic widescreen, and some free trading cards (alright, maybe I don't like trading cards, but someone must!). If you have a DVD, buy this set!

Summary: Super! At last we have a definitive DVD set.
Review: As a movie buff I just adored the "Aliens" movies. I can hardly believe that Alien was released 20 years ago. Viewing the four movies, in one sitting has slightly altered my impression of them. If anything I appreciate them even more. I am not sure that these are horror movies though. I see them as an excellent Sci-Fi series. They merge together very well, unlike the Star Trek movies. What we see is a story presented in 4 chapters. One of basic themes, through out, is the government agency wanting an alien. This "request" appears in Alien, and is covered in all the movies. The quiet beginning of Alien sets the scene, with the explanations well done. Then the pace picks up, slowly and relentlessly at first. Then you hit Aliens. With the extra footage added, this seems even faster than before. It's difficult to imagine a more forceful movie. The pace is exhausting. Then the cooling down with Aliens 3, this movie had me on the edge of my seat, so creepy, you just knew something was about to happen - but when?. Alien Resurrection a good final(?) chapter. I felt that the boxed set was superior to the Laser disc sets, I had only the last 3 to judge. Is this set worth the money? certainly, and then some. Very well transferred, and very welcome. I had thought that Fox was joining the DIVX camp, and had just about given up hope. So thank you to Fox, a very worthy effort and much appreciated. One last thought, Sigourney Weaver deserves an Oscar for this series. She is very good in these movies, very convincing. Other actors have been awarded Oscars for far inferior performances.
