Rating: Summary: Show Don't Tell: Why Is This Movie So Damn Explanatory? Review: I think the Matrix is a pretty good movie but much of the dialogue seems to be flawed with too many explanatory phrases. I sat through this a few times and noticed it more and more. Morpheus is a regular talking encyclopedia but I guess that was what he was supposed to be. Trinity on the other hand was really getting on my last nerve. She also was explaining a lot too. There is a scene where these sentinels(creature like machines) are ready to destroy the ship they are on. Neo says sentinels like he was asking a question and then Trinity goes and spouts what they do. Why couldn't instances like that be left to the imagination? I could have figured that out based on what the characters did in response to those sentinels.(Show don't tell) I was not pleased with the climax of the movie. I will not spoil it for the people who haven't seen the movie but it included a lot more brawn than brains. It was a lot more of a feast for the eyes and not the brains.(Guns, lots of guns) The ending also has a very "Snow White" aspect to it as well.(See it and you will understand that further) For a movie that was supposed to be so intelligent it was more mesmerizing than anything else.(Visually and Auditorally) What is with those tight leather clothes and black shades(awful style). What was holding the shades on throughout all the flipping? It must have been the Matrix.
Rating: Summary: Great Movie< Great DVD Review: This DVD is great... in addition to having a great movie on it, the features really make this DVD stand out. There are 2 behind the scene stories, as well as theatrical trailers, and more. On my DVD player, I noticed some skipping with the disc, and I've heard this also... so you may want to check in to thisRob
Rating: Summary: All right! Ugh...... Review: Well, what do you expect? This movie can be summed up in a few words. Nerds killing cops. Yes, you heard me. As other reviewers have mentioned already, the heros are actually more like terrorists. But what do you expect? It seems that everybody smart these days have to go against the law. I do agree however that this movie seems to be created for the mass market, appealing to teenagers who just might go on another school shooting.............ugh......oh well, it was still a good movie...so good, it made me wonder if I was IN the matrix.
Rating: Summary: ThE gReAtEsT AcTiOn MoVie oF aLL TiMe Review: CRAZY is all i can say ~ when i saw the Matrix in the theaters, i thought every aspect was unbeatable - the sound, graphics, action, fighting, cast, and the CRAZY plot ~ the DVD version is a define equal to the theater experience ~ and much more (jam packed with special features, pictures, and trailers)- you saw how many MTV movie awards this movie won ~ THEREFORE this is the ONE to own and treasure for all time ! "But no one can be told what the Matrix is...you have to see it for yourself..."
Rating: Summary: Great except for the truly LAME Keanu Reeves Review: Great story, writing, direction and effects. The problem is the lead actor. Reeves is certainly talented for some roles, but this hold-on-to-your-seats movie is forced to drag him along. A complete mismatch. A powerhouse action movie like Matrix deserved a strong lead with charisma and masculinity, not a "pretty boy" actor such as Reeves. His inability to carry an action movie seemed obvious after Johnny Mnemonic, but I guess he still has all the right connections in Hollywood to grab a choice role like this. What a shame, and what a waste of an otherwise great movie.
Rating: Summary: Fun to watch again Review: Very cool movie, amazing special effects. Never have I seen a film look so close to the comic book style. Great story as well -pure escapism. The movie lends itself very well to DVD - it can stand repeat viewings, and the extras make it very well worth the purchase.
Rating: Summary: DVD Is Great Except for... Review: Warner made a mistake on this otherwise perfect release by not including the excellent theatrical trailer. Actually, the trailer is on the disc, but you can watch it only through an IBM-compatible computer. If you can get it to run, it plays in a very small window, and if your computer doesn't have a DVD-ROM, too bad for you. In the trailer, the scene where Keanu runs up a wall plays to Enigma's "The Eyes of Truth" (from their second CD). Though not used during the scene in the film, the menus on the DVD play in a loop to a similar-sounding theme. This music really sets the tone for the film and the trailer's exclusion from the movie part of this disc is yet another reason to wonder what kinds of thought processes occur in the brains of marketing people, if any.
Rating: Summary: Simply The Best! Review: This movie is simply the best. I have to put it in the same category as Star Wars movies ( not the last one! ). You watch it over and over again, but the facination never goes away. Now, that's what we called "art". If you have a DVD player, get this. If you don't, get the VHS version. It will change your whole attitude. Laurence Fishburne is the best! Are dreams real, or is reality a dream?
Rating: Summary: nice effects, but,... Review: this is an ok SF film, with an OK soundtrack, decent acting but the story is another spin on, what I would call, the Jesus story because of the following. U have good n evil, a lady called trinity, a Judas n a messianic character played by Reeves. I would rate this film 2.5 stars but that s not possible. It s not bad but it aint great.
Rating: Summary: what dvd is meant for Review: This to me is quite simply the best film of 1999. After seeing it in the cinema, I thought "a great film". Then when the dvd came out, I decided to buy it saying what the heck, I liked the movie. There is so much more to it. You really have to see the movie more than once to capture it all in. The sound is made for home theatre and the picture quality is brillant. Also it's full of extras which enhance the viewing expierence. The behind the scenes feature is great and just basically the story is so original which sets it apart from the cookie cutter crap which is in movies today. I put it like a good mystery book. You just want to see more and more. It's a great, great movie, and if someone has just bought a dvd player or home theatre system, buy this dvd and you will never forget it. And they will thank you for it!
