Rating: Summary: The Matrix is a must see movie! Review: The Matrix is a very enchanting and intriging movie. The movie is excellent. It is about a man who is trying to find out who the matrix is. He eventually finds out he is the chosen one. He finds himself in a different world and gets to find out that he is to protect the world from machines. He faces many different challenges and he has to work out so he can defeat the people chasing him. He has very many things to do. Eventually he wins the game and finds a new lover. Now thats what i call a great movie and is almost like Odyssey. I think Keanu is a great actor and was very extrodinary in the Matrix. So I really think people should go see this very awesome movie that brought a lot of money to the people who produced it. well i just hope that people go see this very interesting movie.
Rating: Summary: Philosophical Action Review: The Matrix is a very entertaining movie. It has great martial arts sequences and John Woo inspired gun sequences. The story of this movie is solid and very intriguing. The dialogue is where this movie stumbles horribly. The philosophical lines are just horrendous. Example: "I can only show you the door, you're the one that has to walk through it." This trite nonsense just takes away from the action. These one-liners are sprinkled through out the movie. You may say I have to lighten up, but great dialogue could have made this movie perfect. The story is there, the acting is there, and the action sequences are there. The influence of this movie can already be seen. The wire work is extensively used in other movies, such as Charlies Angels. I saw Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon and I have to say The Matrix just doesn't cut it. Well-worth seeing more than once, but just don't listen to what the characters are saying.
Rating: Summary: This movie couldn't be better Review: The Matrix is a very good movie. Some people said it was confusing and hard to understand, but I didn't find it confusing at all. It is the story of Thomas Anderson also known as Neo. I can't explain the story because you have to see it for yourself, but it is not as complicated as you think. The visual effects are ground-breaking and are gonna be imitate by every action movie in the future. The Matrix is better than his sequel The Matrix Reloaded, who has less story, but more action. The DVD has some cool extras, but buy it, at least for the movie.
Rating: Summary: Didn't Go Far Enough Review: The Matrix is a very interesting concept that was only slightly unfulfilling. The premise of the movie is that human created artificial intelligence has conquered humanity in a man vs. machine war. Under the premise that machines need energy to survive, humans have blocked out the sun to deprive the machines of solar energy. The machines in turn harness one of the greatest producers of electrical energy ever known to provide their needs. That electrical producer is the human body. The machines breed humans and use the electricity that their bodies produce to their own ends. The machines connect each person into a virtual world known as the matrix. The matrix inputs real world activity into the person's brain to make them believe that they are really living as if they were still in the real world. A group of humans has managed to break away from the matrix and form a human society below ground. They search the matrix looking for humans to rescue and especially for the 'one'. The one is the one person who will destroy the machines by beating them at their own game, using the matrix to his own end. Again, it's an interesting concept that is only partially realized. Keanu Reeves gives a surprisingly adequate performance as the one. He doesn't go for his usual over the top dramatics (I am an FBI agent). All of the other performances are equally subdued and low key. The film breaks down when it falls back on the typical movie formula of good vs. evil near the end. An excellent chance of exploring the idea that man has created the means of his own destruction is missed by two dimensionalizing the main bad guy characters: the agents. What was truly promising about that is that the agents take human form while patrolling the matrix. It is only partially acknowledged when Agent Smith is interrogating Orpheus and he makes the off-hand comment that he and Orpheus are not that different, that they really want the same thing - to be out of the matrix. But it is as quickly dropped. I guess a passing comment should made regarding the special effects. No movie can solely rely on eye candy to make it great. However, The Matrix does have some dazzling effects that are very crucial to the story and not just a sidebar as in so many other action flicks. The Matrix is not a bad movie for an average audience. It may disappoint the more hardcore sci-fi genre junkies though.
Rating: Summary: Decent... Review: The Matrix is a very pretentious, and overrated film in my opinion. While the idea is intriguing, I feel it tried too hard to come off as "hip" to appeal to the mindless American audiences. I think David Cronenberg's eXistenZ is the best take on reality warping sc/fi. His film while low budget, is extremely fun to watch, and definitely something to analyze. Matrix 2 looks promising, but I hope they don't keep doing that whole "You are the one Neo" nonsense.
Rating: Summary: A movie for almost everyone. Review: THE MATRIX is a violent movie and should not be shown to young children. There is one kissing scene, and even I loved it. (I don't usually like action movies). My brother (who adores thrillers/action) has seen it over 6 times! It really is great. Anyone from 12 to adult can and should watch it!
Rating: Summary: Flawed Masterpiece Review: The Matrix is a watershed in cinema entertainment. Rarely have I seen a film with such exciting innovations. It successfully combines elements from sci-fi, action and martial arts genres. The result: a visceral, mind-blowing experience full of emotional tension while also challenging the intellect. The characters were very well developed. I cared about each of them, who they were and whether they survived each adventure. The plot was intriguing and unpredictable. Of course, the wonderful special effects are by now legendary. Unfortunately the scriptwriters made 2 mistakes in my opinion. 1) Some of the violence was purely gratuitous. The Morpheus rescue scene where our two protagonists assault the building security guards was not logical. There should have been a way to avoid killing the guards who are really just innocent people doing their jobs. Or at least a compelling reason for killing them all should have been given if a hyper-stylish shoot-em up was needed to advance the plot. 2) The use of profanity really spoiled the movie for me, particularly the G-damn word that was used repeatedly. A movie of this caliber is already cool - it does not need to resort to cheap profanity to "make it cool". Unfortunately the use of profanity is continued in the sequel as well.
Rating: Summary: Excelent Brain Candy Review: The Matrix is a wonderful thrill ride for the viewer. The intertwining of the fight choreography, and the special effects is superb. It is a visually stunning movie. To all those who feel the need to complain about a lack of originality in the plot, read a book. If you want to be intellectually stimulated stop going to the movies. And for all of you that have cited recent movies, books, and comic books that it resembles, educate yourselves a little more. The philosophical debate on what is real is as old as Plato. In short if you are looking for originality and deep thoughts stop going to the movies and pick up a book.
Rating: Summary: Cyber-punk cinema at its best Review: The matrix is a wonderfully crafted movie with eye-pleasing special effects and an engaging storyline. I loved this movie and so far I have seen it four times. Everytime I have watched it i've noticed or learned something new. Lawrence Fishburne and Keanu Reeves are phenomenal.
Rating: Summary: Best Sci Fi Movie Ever Review: The Matrix is already becoming a cult movie, its just that good. Very intriguing, visually dazzling and sharp, The Matrix is one hell of a ride. And if you already didn't know, the whole story is a corrolary of the life of Jesus Christ (yes the similarities are intentional). Lets not overlook a great soundtrack too.
