Summary: what is the matrix
Review: There are many, many varying perspectives about the true philosophical and religious foundations of the Matrix trilogy and its almost innumerable quantity of symbols and direct relations to ideologies and world religions. The directors chose to unfold the story of the Matrix through more than one form of media; likewise, I have studied the beliefs of many individuals through multiple forms of media and have come to portray the Matrix trilogy as both a philosophical interpretation of the postmodern condition and an artistically portrayed modern representation of Jesus Christ.

The Matrix trilogy is by far the most moving and inquisitively mind-expanding, thought provoking, and most detailed work of cinematic art I have ever experienced. Another human beings concept for an ideology has never been conveyed in such a bluntly ingenious manner.

The Wachowski brothers have revealed nothing in regard to the nature of the trilogy's meaning and its design of infinitely layered implicit foreshadowing of current trends intricately composing the soul of the Matrix experience. Their only response is that its depth is "More than you will ever know."

The part of this generation of videogaming, tv raised, comic book junkies who came to see the movie for its special effects and violence, were not expecting to find themselves questioning their very existance after viewing a film that merely touches on the fact that we, in fact, do not know what true reality is, and that we have absolutely no way of providing concrete facts that suggest otherwise.

In regard to the trilogy, I have yet to hear a criticism that is not obliviously asinine. A part of its genuine design is to point out the naivety of those who label the film according to what they rated it as a motion picture viewing and nothing more/less. Those who do so generally judge by covers and accept everything as it is with little or no doubt. Beyond what they see as kung-fu used to snag viewers, is a monumental unspoken relation to the enslaving political, social, and economical issues of what has been titled the postmodern society.

Summary: Movie that pioneered the new era in visual effects.
Review: There are only two things about this movie that I will mention:
One - very unique and quite disturbing story - the world is a hoax. It is an elaborate deception created by artificial intelligence that controls us.
Two - visual effects, they will blow you away.

This is one of only three movies that I've ever watched in a theater more than once. Let's hope that second chapter is as good as the original.

Summary: Great action, who forgot the story?
Review: There are some great action sequences here where the DVD sound quality and clarity of image combine incredibly. The action shots are remarkable, so why couldn't thet give it a story that might make some sense? Like "The Mummy" and "The Haunting", they choose to build the movie around the special effects with a story thrown in somewhere. The special effects are supposed to help tell the story! The story is not supposed to just support the use of special effects! The idea of the ship traveling around is so absurd. I can suspend belief for a certain amount of the time, but there is a limit! Should someone buy this DVD? It depends on how much you like action films. If you can withstand the story shortcomings, then buy it for the action. Why couldn't they have started with a better story? The premise of what is reality is always interesting, but somehow this movie killed the idea. Definitely worth renting the DVD just to check out the effects! Rent before you buy this one. I chose not to buy.

Summary: The Ideas Were Cool, But......
Review: There are something I hate about this film. 1. The visual effects: If anyone thinks that a good film is based on how stunning its visual and sound effects are? It's absolutely a wrong thing. Federico Fellini, Francis Coppola, and Peter Weir can show viewers great movies by catching the expression that actors provide. 2. Keanu Reeves: Honestly, he did a way better job in "Speed". He looked like a freak more than a hero. I don't blame him for the bad acting, but this film was definately not fit in to him. 3. "He is the one": Holy Cow! Can any Hollywood director stop doing this, if heroes do exist, we are out of misery. 4. The Martial Art in this film couldn't excite me, because that was too ugly to watch, they should all be trained for at least 8 months.

And here is one thing I like about this film: The Ideas. The idea of that we are living in the computer-controlled "Matrix" is a real cool idea and the script writer made the dialogues clear about the technical terms the actors were speeking. Anyway I really can't give a higher admires more than that.

Summary: The Matrix
Review: There are three reasons on why you should watch this movie. One reason is that it is an interesting movie. It is interesting by all the action scenes they put in it and the back grounds in the movie. The second reason is that it is an awesome computer/fighting movie. The third reason is it is a really great action movie, it totally rocks. By action i mean like the fighting scenes and the explosions that go on in the movie are awesome. The Matrix is what the characters in this movie are looking for, and trying to figure the code out. It is a little tricky and confusing but you will get it sooner or later. I really, highly recommend this movie The Matrix. It is an awesome movie and it will blow your mind away. Well, at least thats what I think.

Summary: No problem watching this one over and over and over .....
Review: There have been a few movies that I have no problem watching over again within a relatively short time span. This undoubtedly is one of the top members of this set. If you haven't seen it ... see it. Do yourself a favor though and wait until you have a chance to watch it in digital surrond, hi-res large screen, and crank it up!

Summary: PHILOSOPHY MEETS SCIENCE FICTION
Review: There is no doubt about it, this film is one of the most original science fiction movies ever made. Who would have though that philosophy and sci fi could work together to make a really interesting movie? This movie starts off like Alfred Hitchcock's Vertigo--I'm referring to the rooftop chase--and the end is like one of the Terminator movies. Full of stone-shattering fist-fights and special effects. Because of the philosophical content, some of the ideas are hard to grasp. Let's face it, it is hard to discuss almost ANY philosophical idea in the space of two hours. But I think this film does it rather nicely, considering. Like I mentioned earlier, some of the fist-fight scenes are reminesent of the Terminator movies, but with more emphasis on the martial arts, instead of just mindless bashing. And of course, what action movie isn't complete without the ever-so-awesome mini-gun? The casting job was done really well in this movie, from Neo to Trinity to Morpheus. The antagonist (the suit-and-tie guy wearing shades) reminds me alot of Garrison Keillor (if you've seen him live in A Prairie Home Companion on TV) as to how he talks and scrunches his face up. But the other part of what really makes this movie stand out, in my opinion, is the camera-work. Especially during the second half. You get to see guns fire in slow-motion, people dodging bullets and fists, etc. Now the first half of this movie is somewhat slow (hence the four stars instead of 5) but the last hour or so will explain A LOT and make it worth it all.

Summary: One of the greatest sci-fi movies of all time
Review: There is nothing I can say about this movie, that hasn't already been said a thousand times in these reviews. This movie is simply one of the best I've ever seen, going straight on my otherwise very select list of movies receiving a perfect 10 of 10 on the IMDB/Amazon scale. If you haven't seen it yet, buy it and enjoy. If you have already seen it, buy it and enjoy the movie all over again!

Summary: completely strange
Review: there is only one way to describe the matrix, and that is this: bizarre. everyone knows the story, so i won't bore you. this is one of my favorite movies.

Rating: 4 stars
Summary: Could use more extras
Review: There isn't much I can say about The Matrix that has not already been said. It is truly a visionary film that mixes real human drama about self and the meaning of life into a slick science fiction piece that is truly approachable by sci-fi and non sci-fi fans alike. The DVD package, however, could have stood some more extra features, besides the few behind the scenes shorts that came with it. A piece about some of the philosophy behind some of the things that happen in the movies, or the names used, would have been nice. The picture is clear on the DVD, the sound is good, and the transfer is top notch. All that stops me from giving it a 5-star rating is the lack of extras.
