Rating: Summary: great movie, better DVD in U.K. Review: I saw the special edition Region 2 DTS 2-disc DVD in England. The special edition is so much better and has so many more extras than the plain ol' U.S. region 1 version. First of all, there is an audio commentary by John McTiernan. Second, there is a text commentary! What also makes this a great Special DVD is that it has a second disc! That disc is filled with goodies such as a behind-the-scenes making-of documentary, old and new interviews with the cast and crew, outtakes, a deleted scene, special effects segments, camouflage tests and a text profile of the creature and its weaponry, plus a photo gallery!!! Even the box cover looks better than the Arnie cover!! NOW THAT is a real Predator fans' DVD!
Rating: Summary: Jerry Mcguire this ain't! Review: Arnold hit his peak with the release of "Predator". The movie that almost never was remains til today as action as action can get. The flick pulls no punches or cater toward a ladies needs. You will find no inner love story here! I guess we can call this our "Terms of Endearment". A great cast of some known and not so known actors. Billy, the Indian especially is a strong character. Jesse Ventura has a few classic quotes he won't get away with today. Carl Weathers is strong in a non-Apollo Creed role. And of course there is Arnold. As tough as he is...he is just another puny human compared to the alien. A great buy, highest recommedation!
Rating: Summary: "I'm Here, Kill Me, C'Mon, Do It NOW!!!" Review: Predator is an awesome action movie in it's purest form. Consider this: 1) A bunch of big, bad [...], military guys with even bigger guns will go into the jungle on a mission. 2) The leader of this group will be Arnold Schwarzenegger 3) In this said jungle will be an alien opponent of mythic scale just waiting for some new sport. 4) It will have an unknown director who will use optical effects never before created. Now consider the genious who green lit this project, producer Joel Silver. Silver may just be the greatest thing to happen to the action movie since James Bond leapt from Ian Fleming's page onto the screen in Sean Connery's body. The very idea of this film is preposterous, yet Silver saw something, as he must have with such films as Lethal Weapon, Die Hard (also directed by McTiernan), and The Matrix. He must have seen the potential for greatness. Why is Predator so brilliant? I don't know, it just is. From the word "go" this movie is nonstop. McTiernan, just put the pieces together right. Surrounding Schwarzenegger with guys like Carl Weathers, Bill Duke, Jesse Ventura, and Sonny Landham, was inspired. Also inspired: giving Ventura the gattling-gun and the line, "I ain't got time to bleed, or Landham's line, "There's something out there waiting, and it ain't no man. We're all gonna die." Alan Silvestri's heart pounding score, the amazing special effects from the predator's camouflage and it's POV, and Arnold, how great is Arnold? Pretty great (he certainly has some of his best one-liners). Man, this movie just rocks. It transcends it's genre, everything about it is tip-top. It is definitely one of Arnold's best roles. So what do I think? Is Predator one of the best action/sci-fi movies ever made? I think yes.
Rating: Summary: Greg Review: "Predator" with Arnold Schwarzenegger is one of my favorite moves. But somebody tell me where is the "Predator 2" DVD with Danny Glover. What's wrong with it, was it so bad?
Rating: Summary: Terminators, Aliens and Predators... oh, my! Review: Without a doubt, Predator stands as one of my favorite films of the 1980s and perhaps, of all time. Director John McTierman skillfully crafts a fast-paced action science fiction film set in the steamy, unforgiving jungles of South America that pits an experienced bunch of US Army commandos against a solitary alien hunter. Arnold Schwarzenegger leads a cast of relative unknowns and a few familiar faces, including former wrestler and the current (Not for long! ed.) Governor of my state, Minnesota, Jesse Ventura and the equally hunky, Carl Weathers on a rescue mission when they are called up to go after a cabinet minister whose helicopter has crashed behind enemy lines. What they find are a squad of Green Berets who have been left hanging from trees and skinned alive. Schwarzenegger, as Major ''Dutch'' and the rest of his team are perplexed by this unusual turn of events. What they learn is that there is no cabinet minister, rather a CIA operation to foil a Soviet-led communist insurgence into a neighboring nation and that Dutch's team was misled into stopping it. What also become very apparent is that whoever or whatever skinned the Green Berets has now taken an interest in them. McTierman's grasp of action and pacing is probably second only to James Cameron's. At first the action is sporadic, culminating in the first half of the film with a huge gunfight between Dutch's team and the guerillas, but it tapers off as the team realizes that they are being hunted and picked off one by one by the Predator. Hawkins' gets it first, followed by Ventura''s mini-gun toting Blaine, shot through the back by the Predator's plasma gun. The team quickly organizes in an attempt to make it safely to the drop zone without any more loss of life. I found a great many similarities in Predator and McTierman's later film, the 13th Warrior, with both films possessing great strengths in both characterization, style and energy. Both films have in abundance a large cast of characters, all of whom are for the part, very likeable and an air of creepiness as the surreal intrudes on the real. There is a huge contrast between Predator's cast of commandos and those found in Resident Evil- when one of Dutch's men is lost, you feel disappointed. McTierman also likes night shooting, but that doesn't mean darkness, rather as a backdrop for spectacular pyrotechnics and fires that go a long way to lighting the action. He handles it all superbly. The final battle between Dutch and the Predator is finely crafted tour de force as Dutch pits his experience and intelligence against that of a foe equipped with advanced technology and no small amount of its own experience. One of the aspects of the two Predator films, the Aliens series, the Terminator movies and to some extent, RoboCop (1 and 2, but not 3), is the mythology that grows up around them. All four series have, to one degree or another, an ''expanded universe'' in much the same way that both Star Wars and Star Trek do, albeit much smaller. Whether it be comics, novels, or video games. There was even a project at 20th Century Fox to make an Aliens-Predator crossover film which generated considerable excitement at the time, but unfortunately, never actually happened. About the only thing we did get were two Aliens vs. Predator games. Mores the pity. I'm also hoping Predator 2: Body Count makes it on to DVD soon. I always hope that there will be another Predator film, because the series is too much fun and too interesting to simply be allowed to fade away into nothing.
Rating: Summary: One Word: AWESOME! Review: This movie is so Cool! After finally convincing my parents to let me rent it (I'm only 12) I turned it on, and could'nt turn it off. I'm a big Arnold Fan, and this movie is in my book, Arnold' best movie. It has very cool special effects and features some awesome weaponry, alien and human. (The Minigun is my personal favorite) It wasn't the Blow Away The Bad Guys In 5 Seconds movie I thought it would be, instead it was a Action-Pumped, Run For your life thriller! It also does not waste time explaining the numerous plot points, it has a straightforward and deceptive storyline. Some of Arnold's lines were cool too... Such as: "Stick Around" and "Knock Knock" I laughed my butt off after Arnold said to the Predator- "You are one ugly Mother..." The characters were not only [tough] Commandoes, but they had relationships and some also had enemies within each other. Jesse Ventura, the famous actor and wrestler playing in one of the Commando Roles, also had a cool line: Commando: "You're hit! You're bleeding! Ventura: "ain't got time to bleed..." I recommend this movie to others because for any action fan, it will be a nonstop thrill ride.
Rating: Summary: Predator Review: Predator is one of those action films that you can't stop watching. Arnold Schwarzenneger is one of my favorite actors. My fav. Arnold movie is Terminator 2:Judgment Day. Here's a little fact for you about Predator. Jean Claude Van Damme was supposed to play the Predator but complained about how the costume was to hot to stay in. I can't wait for Terminator 3:Rise Of The Machines. July 2, 2003. Also there is going to be a Predator 3 and it takes place on the Predator's home planet!
Rating: Summary: One of the greatest movies of all time! Review: Out of all of Shwartzenegger's movies I think PREDATOR is the best.It has lots of action and suspense. The predator was cool. He had a arsenal of weaponry, super strength, infrared vision and he could become transparent.I reccomend this movie to anyone who likes thrilling movies.
Rating: Summary: invisible aliens Review: I also grew up on this movie, because I seen it in theaters back in 1987 when it first opened up (including the action sequel "Predator 2" in 1990). After seeing this movie, I was completely blown away by the spectacular effects seen throughout the entire film, including the Predator's ability to bend light making itself invisible. For people who haven't seen this and the sequel or just wanna watch it again, I suggest that you buy both movies & eat some popcorn. Also hope for a "Predator 3" if they ever make it.
