Summary: Is this the end?
Review: After searching for whales in the past and finding "God" at the end of the Universe, the Star Trek movies looked like they were almost out of steam. The revenues were low, the critics were howling, and the series (at least in the movies) seemed dead. And really, did anyone but the fans enjoy those movies? But, even before "The Undiscovered Country," came out the "buzz" was quite good. It was back to the basics with despicable enemies, an interesting plot, and a promotion for Helmsman Sulu, now returning as captain of his own ship. It almost makes you mad at the producers for all of the other garbage they subjected the fans too. Here is Star Trek almost done right. In "The Undiscovered Country," the Federation is predicting a possible Klingon invasion because one of the Klingon moons, a power source for much of the Empire, explodes. A Kligon diplomat, however, seeks a peace treaty instead. Kirk, ordered to pick up this ambassador, winds up in the middle of a twisted and strange plot which makes less sense the more you think about it. Take my advice, don't. Instead, enjoy the special effects, the chemistry between the characters, and the effort that was put into parts of this film. And while not a classic, "The Undiscovered Country" can be enjoyed by most fans of science fiction and probably will be adored by Trekkers. If this is the last film with the original crew, we all know it could have been worse. So, I say good-bye to Mr. Ears, Kirk, Bones, and the whole crew. They will be missed, but as long at there is cable t.v. and the science fiction channel, I dare say they will always be remembered. (Yes, yes, I know Mr. Ears' name is Spock, you people need to relax.)

Review: This movie sends a wonderful farwell to the original cast! Dircted by Nicolas Meyer (who also directed Star Trek II: the Wrath of Khan!) This movie ends an area that began 35 years ago that started back in the 1960s. Sure, the Star Trek: the Next generation cast movies will continue but this is the original Star Trek cast that started the whole concept of Star Trek! This movie stars William Shatner, Leonard Nimoy, David Warner, George Takei (as Captain Sulu!) and Christopher Plummer as General Chang. This movie is also the very last apperance of Deforest Kelly as Dr McCoy! He will be missed among many Star Trek fans! Also, this movie was released around the time Gene Roddenberry, creator of Star Trek, had died. His name is shown on the open credits at the beginning to salute the man that brought us a wonderful sci-fi genre to life! At the beginning of the film it says "For Gene Roddenberry" Buy this movie if Deforest Kelly and Gene Roddenberry mean anything to you. It was a tearful good bye to the entire original cast of Star Trek. Cries. They will be missed! Live, long and prosper.

Summary: My Favorite One
Review: This is my favorite STAR TREK for several reasons. First, it has a sentimental value because Gene Rodennberry had just passed before it was released. Also, I believe it is the last time we ever see DeForest Kelley portray Dr.McCoy. The story is great. It sets the tone for THE NEXT GENERATION. The characters at this point are so well developed that everything just clicks. My favorite scene in this movie is when Kirk leaps over the podium to save the president. Awesome! It really is the swan song for the classic STAR TREK. I could watch it over and over. Christopher Plummer as General Chang is probably the most carismatic Klingon we have ever seen. Great movie!!

Summary: Good Movie, Poor Execution of the Format
Review: The movie is a great transition making Generations unneeded, but Paramount hasn't quite figured out all the benefits of DVD. The lack of extra features is very disappointing.

Summary: It seemed good at the time.
Review: Star Trek VI is a movie that seemed good when I saw it in the theatre, but which has shown its flaws with subsequent viewings. This movie had the benefit of following Star Trek V, an absulutely horrendous movie in every possible way, and it seems great by comparison. But on its own and especially by comaparison to earlier Trek films, it comes up short. The charm of the old series is gone. The same characters are there, but the humor, drama are forced. The story is frequently interrupted for irrelevant and unfunny comic relief. Star Treks II-IV all had many touches of humor especial IV, and VI tries desperately to recapture that, but the easy going humor that came from banter between Kirk, Spock, and McCoy has been replaced with staged gags which are frequently embarrassing to watch. The story itself is implausible on the surface, in the middle, and on the bottom. And itstead of real drama and supsense the movie settles for a dry somber score which seems out of place in a Trek film. However, the movie is not without is merits, particulary to fans of Star Trek. Kirk, Spock, and McCoy are still likeable characters, and the actors give these characters the same charm they always do. And even if the story is poorly executed, the basic story idea is ultimately sound. And the film does try to say something worthwhile. Ultimately, I can't recommend this movie to anyone, but it isn't terrible, and it's probablly worth seeing if you like Star Trek. Even though it deals with the original crew, it will probably appeal more to fans of the newer series that to those of the original series.

Summary: Star Trek Emulates Reality
Review: I believe this movie is the best out of the Trek series because the plot emulated the realistic fall of the Berlin Wall, making it interesting and believable.I wonder how they were able to get the Klingon blood to float in the air. The viewer did not know until the end of the movie who assassinated Chancellor Gorkon, holding the plot's tension. The special effects were more advanced than previous movies. In the beginning, a low budget prevented these special effects. It's a must see for everyone, but especially Star Trek fans.

Summary: Bring back the theatrical version!
Review: The video and DVD versions of this film are NOT the same as was seen in the theatres. Several minutes of footage were added that significantly altered the film, especially it's ending. It is NOT a Director's cut. It was probably done to assuage a cast member of the "Deep Space 9" TV series, whose contributions to this film had ended up on the cutting room floor. The original (better) version should have been available on this disc.

Summary: A fitting ending to the original film series
Review: The final chapter in the original series ends with Captain Kirk, who must confront his hatred of Klingons after the Klingon home world is slowly dying, and needs the aid of the Federation. A peace envoy, namely the Enterprise, is sent out to meet Chancellor Gorkon, a leader in the Klingon Empire. But he is assisanated, and Kirk and McCoy are arrested for the crime and stand trial in a Klingon court, and are found guilty. It becomes a race against time and survival as the crew of the Enterprise tries to discover who is at fault, because an upcoming peace summit may be at risk at well, while Kirk and McCoy try to escape the prison from hell, on an ice planet. This film is worthy of the name Star Trek in every respect, and on a technical note the picture and sound is great on this DVD. A must buy for any Trek fan!

Summary: Thank You Trek VI for redeeming Trek V....
Review: As a hard-core Trek fan (but alas, I have never been to a convention...) I was cautiously optimistic when I heard Paramount was going to gamble on a 6th installment of what has been referred to as their 'Franchise'...my reasoning was this: Even though I am a BIG Trek fan, it doesn't mean that I enjoy everything Trek, and Trek V: The Final Frontier was beyond dismal. I mean it was so horrible I was almost embarassed to be known as a Star Trek fan. Well I decided to gamble on Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country and it was a gamble worth taking. The plot was so, I don't know exactly how to describe it other than it was so 'Trekkish' that I immediately found myself absorbed by this fun and entertaining tale. Co-written by Leonard Nimoy (who also co-wrote Trek IV: The Voyage Home, another winner) and directed by the man who guided us through the Wrath Of Kahn, Undiscovered Country was a feast for Trek fans of all ages. Sure Kirk and Spock are looking a little old, and especially McCoy (may he rest in peace) but that did nothing to keep the interest at full attention from beginning to end. Rich with everything that made Trek a success to begin with and even a bit of that wit that brought the characters a little more humanity, Trek VI is NOT to be missed. Easily stands as arguably the best movie of ALL the Trek films to date (with the possible exception of Wrath of Kahn). If you have somehow been sheltered from this wonderful romp through the 23rd century, run, don't walk to the nearest video store and grab this collectors item ASAP. NOT to be missed.
