Rating: Summary: WE HAVE A WINNER!!!!! Review: This sci-fi thriller has great context. Excellent acting and most of all complexity. Crichton fans should be happy this movie has it all!
Rating: Summary: Could have been much better.... Review: After watching this movie I had a big feeling of deja-vu. The whole idea behind the movie is just a copy of the excellent 50's movie "Forbidden Planet", but much worse... Te first 1/2 hour - 45 minutes are OK since you keep wondering about what these guys are going to find inside the space ship, after that everything goes down the drain with a much too cheesy ending... Only recommended for hard core science fiction fans. If is not the case you will bet much better off watching Forbidden Planet
Rating: Summary: like the book, yet not Review: This was a rare movie that was exactly like the book, story wise. But for some reason, the movie misses the suspense and thrills of the book despite the good actors (and Sharon Stone, heh, heh).
Rating: Summary: Makes you think afterwards about this Review: The movie afterwards let's you think that every god should have a tool like this. You can't really classify this movie but it is scifi and will make you think what really happend.Didn't it??
Rating: Summary: No Explainations Review: I enjoyed the movie (somewhat). The special effects were good, the cast was excellent, and basically all of it was good, except for one thing: They don't explain many of the strange events in the movie. For instance, there is the sphere. They never explained where the sphere came from (there was only a brief "sent out to pick up things like this" to serve as an explaination). Events are disorderly and unexplained, and "Jerry" seems to be a naturally-born psychopath, as opposed to the "child king" he is in the book. Finally, there was a scene in the book that was the absolute best scene, and it was not included in the movie. However, the end sequence wakes the audience up again, and was rather good. All in all, the movie was entertaining, yet there are no explainations for certain scenes. Read the book! It is much, much better!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Rating: Summary: A Generaly Thrilling Surprise Review: I saw this movie and i could not wait because i read the book and i really liked it and i thought that there should be a movie. Then there was and i saw it opening weekend i was really excited. WHEN IT STARTED THE OPENING SEQUENCE IT WAS EXACTLEY FROM THE BOOK AND IT WAS THOUGHT PROVOKING AND KEPT YOU GUESSING AND THE F/X WERE GOOD FOR BARRY LEVINSON WHICH WAS HIS FIRST TIME WORKING WITH F/X. BUT AFTER THE FIRST 77 MINS ARE WHAT THEY SHOULD BE BUT THEN AFTER IT WAS JUST OK BUT STILL SURPRISING IN SOME PARTS. THE END COULD HAVE BEEN THE MOST IMPORTANT F/X SHOT IN THE WHOLE MOVIE IT WAS WASTED IT WAS BAD ALL IT WAS WAS THE SPHERE COMING UP FROM THE OCEAN FLOOR. IT WAS CRAP. THE CAST WAS STRONG AND I MEAN STRONG DUSTIN HOFFMAN, SAMUEL L JACKSON AND SHARON STONE ALL WERE TRYING GOOD BUT BOGGED DOWN BY THE UNINSPIRING STORYLINE BUT SAMUEL L JACKSON REALLY WAS THE BEST OUT OF THE BUNCH HE WAS ALWAYS IN IN GOOD FORM AND HE TRIES TO OVERCOME THE SCRIPT BUT WHO CAN WE BLAME. bUT ONE THING I DID LIKE HOWEVER WAS THE MUSIC FROM COMPOSER ELLIOT GOLDENTHAL WHICH WAS ALWAYS KEPT ME LISTENING AND KEPT ME PLEASED. OVERALL THIS MOVIE IS GOOD WITH SURPRISES BUT ALL I COULD OF ASKED FOR WAS A BETTER STORYLINE AND A RE-SHOT ENDING. GOOD POINTS* SHARON STONE WAS GOOD LOOKING * STRONG CAST * GOOD MUSIC BAD POINTS * SO-SO SPECIAL EFFECTS * BAD STORYLINE LOSES STEAM IN THE LAST HOUR * LACKLUSTER ENDING
Rating: Summary: Sphere mostly disappoints Review: There are a couple of reasons to watch Sphere and the main one is simply because of Samuel L. Jackson, starring in his first of two underwater films. (I guess he still hasn't learned) Anyway, he delivers a great performance, and unlike in Deep Blue Sea, doesn't get cut off (literally) in a middle of a speech and torn in half. Another reason to watch Sphere is for some good special effects. They are there, but there is no story to back it up. Actually, there is a story that has a good mystery element to it but unfortunately NOTHING is explained. And if you thought matters weren't resolved in Event Horizon, wait till you watch Sphere.
Rating: Summary: Sheer disapointment Review: Why don't screenwriters learn how to read? This movie misfires each time it steers away from Crichton's novel, which provided yet a ready-made script. The filming is poor (we never get a clear sense of the underwater station's topography), the acting is clearly below average (the whole cast appears to be as bored as the audience turns out to be), and most of all the whole production looks cheap (the jellyfish is OK, but where the heck is the giant squid? In this age of sophisticated CGI, you can't suggest there's a huge monster around and never show it once. Did they run short on dough or something?). Forget the flick and read the book instead.
Rating: Summary: Dreadful Sci-Fi Movie Review: This the worst movie of the decade. Absoulty horrible acting, and a boring villian that you didn't even seen. Sphere is just a waist of Garbage and should be thrown out.
Rating: Summary: Great Book Turns Into Chopped Up Movie Review: The concept of Sphere was interesting, unfortunately I read the book by Crichton first. Several intense parts that would make the movie unbelievable where left out. Ok, I have to admit that the jellyfish scene was pretty cool but there would have been other scene that would have been better. It's not worth the 3.50 or 13.00 to buy it
