Summary: Truly, truly horrible movie
Review: I dont get it. Matrix 1 was a very good, exciting, clever, intelligent, visually stunning movie. It was one of the first DVD's I bought, in fact. Before I saw the sequel, I had been looking forward to further exploration of the universe of the Matrix for some time. I am a huge sci-fi fan who has learned to distrust movie critics when they knock films in the genre, so, despite negative reviews, I went it to 'Matrix: Reloaded' with an open mind. To say that it was a disapointment would be a wild understatement!! Clearly, the sole focus of the movie was the big, over-the top Keanu-fu fight scenes that were so innovative and fresh in the original movie. While the special effects were quite competent, the action was flat. There was no real tension-- never even the vaugest thought that Neo couldnt whip 10 gazillion Mr Smiths, or whatever bad-guy he might have been up against at the moment. They were just pure exercises-- an attempt to cram as much pointless CGI on the screen as possible. Then there is the story-- there was a story, right? Pointless, pseudo-philsophical claptrap that could not possibly have any interest to anyone besides a roomful of 13 year old, pimply-faced Dungeon & Dragon geeks (by age 14, same D&D geeks would be rolling their eyes at this piddle, too!!), some utterly pointless party/orgy scene that even lost its eye-candy appeal because it was so repetetive, and other assorted pointless twists and turns to plod through the space between fight scenes. Yawn. The only semi-redeeming moment of the film was the big car chase, but even that went on so long that it lost most of its tension.
Worst flick I've seen in many years. Avoid this movie at all costs!

Review: Since when is nonstop action and explosions entertainment?
I must say the first Matrix movie was great. The Matrix Reloaded fails to live up to its name by such a long way. I went into the movie with an open mind, hoping it would be great, and was severely disappointed. The directors are going with that strange modern philosophy in movie making that 'special effects plus explosions = people will like it'. Maybe for 11-12 year olds, but most people actually prefer storyline over that sort of thing. The storyline in Reloaded had potential, but it wasn't given enough time. More than half of this movie is nonstop action, with occasional flits of storyline in between. It very closely resembles a videogame, especially at the three-quarter or so mark when everyone is given a long 'series of objectives' to complete and then laboriously complete them one by one. The 'laborious' is felt by the viewer also, it is just exhausting how the action goes on, and on, and on. It's an insult to the intelligence of the viewers - Do the W brothers really believe we are small minded enough to say "Wow, this movie is awesome because it had great special effects!"? Special effects are fun icing on the cake, but all the special effects in the world cannot turn a bad movie into a good movie. The first movie, was still an intelligent and well-structured piece of work that stimulated the minds of many. Reloaded however fails in this, favouring, as mentioned - action, special effects, and a few bits and pieces ofconvoluted plot presented sporadically and over-dramatically. Is kinda like a kids tv show that doesn't take itself very seriously, where a bunch of things happen for no reason, to the amusement of the watchers. Except.. Reloaded does take itself seriously, and aims itself at adults. The most anyone over 15-16 years old will get out of this movie is akin to what one would get by riding a roller coaster 30 times in a row - Strong exhaustion and a headache.

Summary: Pity the Matrix in the Middle
Review: The second movie in a trilogy is never an easy task. There's no beginning or end, just a lot of middle. This movie didn't entirely live up to the hype, because the story line serves largely to connect the special effects, which incidentally are spectacular. The Burly Brawl and the Car Chase make it worth watching. The explanations by the various characters such as the Architect are too complex to absorb while relaxing, but he really uses nice words like "apropos" and "viz a viz". Trinity is more human in this one - I liked her better in the first movie, when she seemed almost unstoppable. In this one, she is softer, and more emotional, but can still put up a fight. Neo and Morpheus are so high brow now that they are almost boring to listen to, but great to watch while in action. The fight scenes and sound effects are mind blowing. The Twins, Niobe and Link steal the show, and Persephone deserves more screen time. Loose ends, and an abrupt ending lead to extreme anticipation for the Revolution.

Review: but matrix reloaded stands on its own.
it really deserves about 4.5 stars. good movie with some awsome bullet time sequences and some really breath taking scenes. only 2 problems for me in Matrix Reloaded was that some of the fight scenes are too long. when neo fights all 100+ agent smiths, it gets boring after a while.
that fight scene alone must have lasted a good 15-20 minutes. also, i hate the ending, "to be concluded"???? what was that? we're not watching some tv show here, this is the MATRIX! on the upside, the bullet time here is just as good as in the original matrix. also, i absoultely LOVE the freeway car chase scene!!! absoultey awsome! the music, the ghosts, the close calls with Trinity and the Keymaker on the mortacycle, and then the bullet time for the 2 eighteen wheeler crash is freaking AWSOME!!! as for the DVD special features, it's worth it! big time! they go behind the scenes on the contrustion of the freeway sequence which began back in 2001! and it's not some 5 minute feature, it's a good feature that covers more than enough, and also helps the fans and viewers really understand not only how hard and how much work you have to do for just one sequence in a movie, but you come to appreciate the work the whole cast and crew did on matrix reloaded. WOW!!!

Summary: a fine film
Review: The problem with a sequel is that everybody has their mind made up about what they want to see before stepping into the theater, even if on a subconscience level. The Matrix Reloaded is as brilliant a sequel as Back to the Future 2 is. Unfortunately, many moviegoers are becoming too good for the Matrix series, as it has become widely popular thereby alienating those who once thought they were the only ones who appreciated the first film. So now they must remain superior by turning their backs on the latest efforts. Yes, they have already written reviews for Revolutions, although it hasn't been released yet.
Relax. It IS perfectly okay to enjoy these movies. You, me, we're all allowed. There's no pressure. Enjoy Reloaded and its wonderful absurdness. Get excited for Revolutions! And remember, big budget films are rarely this carefully crafted. These Matrix films, these LOTR films, they're rare treats for us, the moviegoers. So stop complaining and enjoy, or get busy writing something better.

Summary: Plain bad
Review: The original Matrix was a rip-off in terms of sci-fi originality, but the sequel is even worse. In fact Reloaded has nothing original about it. The kung fu stuff is cool, in a way, but what exactly does it serve in the context? Actually what's the context? Funny how some people can become filthy rich by selling "ideas" they probably got while inhaling.

Summary: Bloody Awful - BELIEVE THAT!!!
Review: What was so funny to me about this film is that the creators proved that the first film was a fluke - as I always suspected. Their earlier ventures (script for Stallone's Assassins and the sluggishly paced, though stylized Bound) are more intune with what they're about. I don't look for American movies from the fin du siecle to be enlightening or to shed any light on the human condition, and it was perposterous IMHO for people to find that kind of insight for the first film. Proving my point about lack of comparative religious studies in our schools. This film lacks any kind of coherency, and stuffed several 10+ minutes (redundent) fight scenes to demonstrate how much money they can spend creating special effects that WILL be used better in other movies. American movies took their cue on how to do second and third films from Lucas' original Star Wars trilogy, but the Wachowski Brothers (like Lucas himself and suprising Quentin Tarantino in Kill Bill) don't have a clue on how to end a film that's designed to have a sequel. One doesn't just stop a story, bring some resolution to what you have already presented AND set-up the next film... which will be highly anticiapted. Anybody remember their feelings at the end of EMPIRE STRIKES BACK? What's going to happend to Han Solo? Good Christ! Is Vader reallly Luke's father? Will Luke finish his Jedi training with no hand? But in Matrix: Reloaded, does one even care about what's going to happen to any of the characters? ooohh, Zion is in trouble. so what? We never emotionally attached ourselves to them. And no one died, or even got close to dying. If this is about a war, then people who the audience cares about needs to die. Personally, I would have killed Trinity. Permanantly, then Zeo can actually FEEL something when he takes revenge in the final film -- which I'm not going to see. People expected some sort of continuation mystery for the first film, I hardly expected that and I was still disappointed. Completely.

Summary: I GUESS IT WAS OK
Review: THIS TIME, NEO, MORPHEUS, AND TRINITY MUST STOP THE MACHINES FROM INVADING AND DESTROYING THE CITY OF ZION. THE SPECIAL EFFECTS ARE STILL GOOD, BUT IT'S JUST THAT, WELL, THEY PUT A LOTTA POINTLESS STUFF INTO THIS SEQUEL. THE HIGHLIGHT OF THIS ENTIRE MOVIE IS BY FAR THE CLIMATIC CHASE SCENE. BUT, JUST LIKE A LOT OF OTHER SEQUELS, IT'S JUST MISSING SOMETHING THAT MADE THE ORIGINAL MOVIE SO GOOD. BUT STILL, THIS AIN'T THAT BAD OF A MOVIE. ''THE MATRIX REVOLUTIONS'', WHICH IS THE CONCLUSION OF THE MATRIX SERIES, WILL HIT THEATRES NEXT MONTH.

Summary: Not as Great as the Sum of Its Parts
Review: I really wanted to feel that Matrix Reloaded would be a great movie. The problem was that I felt that I had left the world of the original film and entered a video game. The characters are all there but somehow they became Superman clones overnight. What little of the plot there is becomes increasingly confusing due in large part to the fact that what the audience gets is half a movie. Maybe things will be revealed when the final chapter of the trilogy comes out in early November. As the movie opens the machines are drilling towards Zion and Neo must find a way to prevent this attack. We go through the usual machinations of surface plot: Neo must find and rescue the Keymaker who will show him the way to the door to the core of the Matrix where he will be forced to make a choice to save the world or to act in his own self interest. For the most part however the film presents fight scene after fight scene each more elaborate and CGI created. While the wire-fu is interesting I get the feeling that I've seen it all before and don't really need to see it again. The centerpiece of the film is a freeway chase scene that seems to go on forever. The movie is not bad but in the whole is not as great as the sum of its parts. The DVD I viewed presented a crisp picture and soundtrack. Credit once again must be given to director of photography Bill Pope and composer Don Davis. While the set boasted of many special features they really did not amount to much more than extended promotional materials. Particularly bad in this respect were "The Matrix Unfolds" and "Enter the Matrix" game promos. The usual making of feature "Preload" was worth a look and so was the detailed Freeway Chase Scene featurette if your interests are inclined that way. Perhaps the best part of the special features section was the spoof of the film for the MTV Movie Awards which is presented in its entirety. All in all woth a view but we're keeping our fingers crossed that the third chapter will be as great as the promise of the first film.

Summary: Disapointing....
Review: Loved the first one so I couldn't wait to get reloaded. For sure the effects where well done but perhaps to long and drawn out and actually became tedious and boring, and as for the Zion segment? I thought I was having a flash back of the scene in the Ten Commandments where the people of Israel can't seem to wait for Moses and have an orgy. Also all the caracters seemed to lose what made them special individually. What a disapointment
