Rating: Summary: BEYOND CONTEMPT...this is NOT Godzilla! (ZERO stars) Review: For any young or ill-informed movie fan, let me say this: this movie has NOTHING to do with the traditional Godzilla. Do not waste even a moment of your time watching this movie. It is a colossal waste of time and money...the producers of this movie did not have even a remote clue about the magical world of kaiju eiga.
Rating: Summary: Hollywood duo Devlin and Emmerich reinvent a Cult classic Review: Reading some of the more generous reviews one might actually believe this movie was a fun romp. Not at all. A fun romp is what the better half of the Japanese monster movies represent and what Devlin and Emmerich failed to provide. This is a truly awful adaptation both from the point of view of someone looking for a good time and the Godzilla fans out there who craved for considerably more. Not to gloss over the Japanese monster movies with their characteristically laughable dubbing and their sometimes equally ludicrous plots but at worst, the original product could be enjoyed or excused as mere camp. However, at best, the Japanese Godzilla was shown as an irresistable force of nature smashing cities with impunity and leaving behind a tremendous wake of devastation. Japanese monster movies are really natural disaster movies in which the natural disaster is the star rather than the survivors. Godzilla is more related to an earthquake, volcano, or typhoon than King Kong, Frankenstein, or Dracula. Sure, it's not Masterpiece Theater nor meant to be, but Devlin and Emmerich's movie is too involved with meandering through the leading character's absurd escapades around famous New York City landmarks and developing dull "Beverly Hills 90210" like relationships to be even that entertaining or to be any fun at all. This version doesn't reach high enough to be a good disaster movie or low enough to be humorous B-movie material. Rather, it spends less on Godzilla or the havoc she causes than it does on the shallow love story between Matthew Broderick and Maria Pitillo's characters or Jean Reno's involvement as the leader of a French team whose sole purpose seems to be to spout clever quips with an accent while maintaining a pose of heroic bravado. All in all, the Army's endless cavalcades to kill the beast with several poorly aimed rocket barrages actually cause more damage than Godzilla's torpid strolls through the city. Rather than an invincible force of nature wrecking havoc like a thousand hurricanes we are given a giant mutant stumbling through New York and meeting a torturous end straddled on a bridge. I do not mind movies that are made solely for entertainment, for fun, but this was really no more exciting than watching a giant reptile hunt! For all intent and purposes, this was a 100 million dollar marketing vehicle for merchandise and The Wallflower's hit single.
Rating: Summary: Killing heroes, despite the bashing DVD qualities... deadly Review: Ohhh, this is not the hero I raised with when I was young, this is an act of mockery ! Oh, yes, I forgot ! we have a hero ! Matthew, yes !... a hero with the worst acting ever in his career with a cast even far behind ( except Jean Reno ). Maria Pitillo, Hank and all the others truly deserved to be squished by the real hero ( although it looked like anything but G ). Senseless, where's the lesson here ? that all we believed in should be destroyed because epecial effects command so ? that Godzilla's death should be accepted because this version has a greater budget ? Hmmmp, the guys in rubber suits knew best ! Now, let's see the reviews... hmmm, can't say nothing much but: " everyone who expressed the movie was " good " say this based on the fact of how " COOOL " were the effects; the ones who actually disliked it give reasons of weight, credible, convincing statements. Too bad, even though the profit turned out to be good for the directors, that only proves how many people of low intelect live in this world and how easily can they be used for profittable causes.
Rating: Summary: Operative word here....fun... Review: Godzilla, though not as thought provoking as the Japanese original (sans Raymond Burr), it does deliver on basic entertainment. Decent special effects, some good scenes. Lots of the acting was pitiful, yeah they tried coasting this in on the coattails of ID4. Yeah, seen the plot before. Glad I got a dollar off on the rental. Not as bad as some people make it out to be. The DVD was a good example of the tech. Though not a keeper. A decent beer-with-buddies-armed-with-rubber-tipped-dart-guns to shoot Matt play girlfriend flick, when nothing really matters what is going on the screen. Fun. And make sure you get it as a discount rental.
Rating: Summary: Old Godzilla with Interesting New Look and Very Cool Effects Review: Despite what all the quote/unquote movie critics say, this movie was, overall, not that bad. Sure, like every movie there are some flaws, like Jurassic Park-looking effects in some parts or bad dialouge. The fact of the matter is, this movie didnt get enough credit it deserved. I feel when you take an old character and re-make it and give it attitude, you should get some credit for it. Overall: Effects great, depth good, and plot okay
Rating: Summary: Wow! Review: I bought this cd since I liked the puff dady and wallflowers song on it. Both were actually really good. There were other additions to the number of songs. Try them before buying. But, overall, very pleased.
Rating: Summary: . . .From The Makers Of Independence Day Review: Even though this movie got bad reviews, this movie suprised me. It was an enjoyful film that has some amazing special effects. Although some parts looked kinda like some of the Jurrasic Park scenes. But a fun video with all the bells and whistles.
Rating: Summary: Amazing Review: Let's admit it, folks. It takes talent to make a movie like this so boring.
Rating: Summary: Very disappointed! Review: A film copys the ideas of Jurassic Park, Alien, ET, and King Kong. But NO Godzilla.
Rating: Summary: This is an awesome cd Review: Gosh, where to start. I got the cd because I love the Wallflowers, but I soon realised what a great cd it was. It has some awesome songs, um, the rage Against the Machine song is fabulous and the remix of Brain Stew is totaly cool. nad as I am reading this I realise i sound like such a teeny bopper, but I am not. It is a great cd and I think that if you like anything form Puff Daddy to Rage Against the Machine to the Wallflowers, you will love this cd.
