Review: This is the best thing that has ever happened to me. Sylvester Stallone and Armand Assante are comic geniuses. YES!! You say 'no' but I say 'yes'. Hollywood could not have made a motion picture event such as this. It was pure Einstein.

Summary: Judge Dredd - ful
Review: I have to admit that this wasn't the best movie I've seen - nor the worst. A nice and round 3/5 is the best I can do for this movie.Having said that it really wasn't my "cup of tea". You either enjoyed the futuristic set or you didn't. Funnily enough there were some great moments in this movie and Sly Stallone rips off a few good one liners like: " I am the law..!!". Then again, that may well be showing my sense of humour but nonetheless this adaptation of a comic book strip back in the 70's probably done it a fair amount of justice. It seemed like Judge Dredd was the be all and end all of the law in this futuristic metropolis. Although a little far fetched for my liking the fact that Judge Dredd had the power to decide what punishment was deemed approprate at the time made it a somewhat amusing to watch. Maybe, for me, it was a typical Stallone performance ??? Anyway, I didn't really like the movie but I did enjoy parts of it which bumped up the rating. I can relate to anyone who'd give this a thumbs-up for it and can definately understand anyone giving it a thumbs-down. Overall, it wasn't all that interesting but, then again, I've seen worse. 3/5.

Summary: Okay, But Don't Go Out Of Your Way
Review: Beware of movies that require an explanatory prologue, even if it is one read by James Earl Jones. A cross between wannabe BLADERUNNER effects and Saturday morning "Superfriends"-type characters and stories, JUDGE DREDD offers the tale of a future society so lawless that ultra-police "judges" roam the streets dispensing inflexible justice right and left. Among them is Judge Dredd, played by Sylvester Stallone at his least expressive, a legendary incorruptible who must be gotten out of the way if an evil take-over is to be staged. In classic manner he is framed for a crime he did not commit--and the rest of the film is as predictable as last night's popcorn. A major critical and box-office flop when released, JUDGE DREDD isn't quite as bad as some would lead you to believe. True enough, it is EXTREMELY predictable from start to finish and INCREDIBLY heavy-handed in execution; even so, the special effects (which borrow heavily from everything from BATMAN to ROBOCOP to BLADERUNNER) are watchable, and if you're in the mood to waste time on "junk cinema" you could probably do worse. I won't trash it, but even so it isn't a movie you'll want to go out of your way to see.

Summary: BRAINLESS = Entertaining none the less!
Review: Judge Dredd is an actoin movie. Period. It's great brainless fun if you just want to see a bunch of grungy future guys shooting guns and blowing stuff up. If you want a thinking action movie, get Ronin or the French Connection.
Visually, I thought this was one of the best comic book adaptations ever, up on the level as the original 1989 Batman. The unique armor and city style of the U.K. Judge Dredd series definitely shines through true to the comics. If this movie had sound effects written into the screen, it would easily come across as watching a comic. Beautiful.
All in all, this movie is wonderfully bad. Cheesy lines, Stallone playing a role perfectly suited for him, lots of violence. Perfect movie for a night where you just want to let your brain rest with a bad action movie.

Summary: Not every movie needs a brain
Review: Who says every movie needs a brain? Sometimes the purpose of watching a moving is to give your brain a rest. Isn't that what "entertainment" is all about? You might want to watch "A Room with a View" at one time, but "Judge Dredd" at another. Trust me. If you just want to relax and enjoy some great visual/audio special effects, awesome costumes, and unbounded imagination, this is one of the best in its category.

Summary: Very strong argument for not doing comic book adaptations.
Review: To be honest, I don't remember a lot about this movie, but everything I do remember is painful. It's been years since the last time I saw it, and I've only seen it once (that was enough for a life time, trust me). My friend recommended it to me just for laughs - it's that bad. The settings are from taken straight from the pages of a bad comic book, which is understandable as it is based off a bad comic book. The acting, well, if you want to call that acting, is pretty puerile. Stallone's delivery of his lines come across as pathetic and laughable when they're supposed to be serious, like many of Schwarzenegger's lines. The one thing Schwarzenegger has going for him is his dry wit works. With Stallone's, there is nothing to admire on this one. This B movie takes everything from superiour films (BLADE RUNNER, STAR WARS, TOTAL RECALL, etc) and then throws them into a very poorly conceived mixture which not only does it not gel it doesn't even leave much of an imprint in your mind, other than that of pain. Everything about this movie is ludicrous and overdone, and the Amazon review of this hits the nail on the head. For those looking for a good movie, look elsewhere. For those looking for a gut-busting laugh at how bad movies can get, you've come to the right place. P. S. As for what the DVD adds, I'm not sure. Whatever it is, it can't be good. Who really cares about bonus features with the film's as bad as this? It's just more time to waste when you could be doing something productive . . . like staring at potatoes or grooming your nose hairs.

Summary: Stallone is the law!!
Review: Forget what people have said about this film!It isn't a Star wars/Bladerunner clone (no pun intended).This is a good movie in it's own right!True,it isn't 100% faithful to the comic,but how many comics do you know that can be translated unto screen with no changes?If you want proof of this watch the shadow,or even the dire tank girl!The plot could have been better,i would have liked to have seen Judge Death or more of the angel family!Thankfully the storyline is saved by excellent action sequences,the lawmaster chase is a must see!
Stallone shines as Dredd,even though hard core dredd fans hate him for taking off his helmet!Come on,did you expect Stallone to go through an entire film with his helmet on?Seriously?
The score by Alan Silvestri is simply excellent!A must hear!
If you're a hard core dredd fan,don't watch this!If you're a dredd fan,or simply someone wanting to watch a good action movie with loads of explosions and judging,this is the one for you!My only complaint about this film is that it is too short!90 minutes for a dredd film?give me a break!But then,they are 90 action packed minutes!

Review: I wanted to like this movie a lot more than what I did since I was a fan of Judge Dredd as a comic book series. Yet JUDGE DREDD is nothing more than Hollywood big money botching up another franchise. This stinker is so bad it doesn't belong in the same league with other comic book flops like BATMAN FOREVER or SUPERMAN IV. Instead, it should have been totally scrapped like the Fantastic Four movie that was attempted several years earlier. I feel this way for several reasons. 1. Betrayal of the comic book's style - This really isn't so much a comic book adaptation as it is a B-grade comedy with a huge budget. 99% of the wit and satire that the comic book has is lost on this movie. It is replaced by annoying in-jokes that these Hollywood suits can't seem to get over themselves for creating. The only instant in which the movie shows any comparable wit is when Dredd tells a "perp" that suicide is legal. But one good joke does not a good movie make. 2. Dredd's character - Stallone killed Dredd. It is the obligation of the actor to conform themselves to the character, not the other way around. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I read in a '95 issue of Fangoria that Stallone didn't really like Dredd's mannerisms. So he wanted to put a friendly face on Dredd - who by the way never shows his in the comic book. I didn't feel like it was Judge Dredd I was watching, it felt like another Stallone character like Rocky or Rambo 3. A few good scenes - This movie ain't all bad. The opening scene that shows all the skyscrapers of Mega City is a feast for the eyes. The joke about suicide was funny. And the flying cycle chase climax wasn't too shabby. But the producers thought they could get away with putting in a few good scenes while every else in between is junk. Seems like the perfect formula for making a summer blockbuster...

Summary: Needs Clearer Identity
Review: Like many American movies today, this one can really be enjoyed only in a movie theater, not on VHS with a regular TV. It is full of action and special effects. The comic book hero dishes out justice, which is more like vigilante violence with a badge. I would probably give 4 stars to the theater version, which is where I first saw it, but it won't make much of an impression on tape. Some characters were not all that great either. I found the cannibals disgusting and annoying. Maybe that was the point, but I just did not care for these cannibals. And the gigantic robot enorcers that are reanimated and roam the streets in their destructive fury have irritatingly too much power. This movie makes an attempt at a series of jokes, but they fall flat, because the atmosphere is grim, and the main character has been set up as part of a conspiracy. And this, in a nutshell, is the problem with a movie: it cannot figure out its own identity. It is an exaggerated, over the top sci/fi film with sprinkles of comic relief, while it also attempts to depict human lust for power, intrigue, the struggle for justice, and the importance of love and life.

Review: Judge Dread was just another stepping stone in Stallones long ride to the bottom. As must would expect, the film lacks much of a plot and is full of irritating dialogue and some very mediocer performances. Of course, people who go to see this film are going to go for the action and special effects. In the latter category, Judge Dread is competant if not amazing. The visuals are fairly good but really nothing that is going to knock your socks off. Unfortunatly, the films main draw, the action sequences, are un-involving and tedious. If you're expecting anything along the lines of a Face Off or Die Hard then you are going to be seriously disapointed. I've heard people say "Don't expect Shakespear, just enjoy it as a fun Sci-Fi ride." The sad think is, even if you do ignore the lousy script and acting, this is still a weak film. It's not fun and it's not much of a ride.
