Summary: You'll need a big amp, and deaf neighbors
Review: I was lucky enough to watch this on a 100-inch projection set with enough McIntosh audio gear to buy a top-end Lexus. The film transfer is excellent, and the audio is spectacular. This is a movie that really shows off a good dolby digital setup, and will put your subwoofer setup to the test.

The movie itself was enjoyable. Young and ambitious kids go off to war, hoping for glory and victory, and find that the price is often higher than anticipated. END

Summary: Good special effects
Review: This is a very good movie for special effects. What I really like about DVD is the special features side. Had they left in the scenes that were deleted, it would have really changed the movie. The director comments are also very interesting. END

Summary: funny, satirical & underappreciated sci-fi masterpiece
Review: I read a review of Starship Troopers that described it as Triumph of the Will meets Melrose Place, which neatly summarizes the film's mischevious satire. Don't take the film literally, or its plastic characters & equally superficial right-wing society will drive you crazy. Instead, cued by the hilarious FedNet sequences that glue the film together, accept the film as a comedy which presents a disconcertingly plausible vision of a fascist-militaristic society, & then proceeds to poke fun at such a society by exposing its superficiality & Orwellian conformity. Not to mention that Starship Troopers boasts some of the finest special effects ever to grace the movie screen. Do you have what it takes to be a citizen? END

Summary: Fun Movie Made By Strategy Idiots
Review: This was an enjoyable fun movie. So why did I give it only 2 stars?

I didn't read the Heinlein book, so I don't know whether it was he or the movie folks that have such an abysmal lack of knowledge of strategy . Where did they get their concept of war from, Alexander the Great? Here we are in a major planetary war years into the future, and what is our grand plan?

1. Don't bother to do any silly advance bombing like they did in the US-Iraq war back in 1989.

2. Send the troops in without any air cover.

3. Provide them with no mechanized support. Why bother with tanks when you are emulating Alexander the Great.

4. All those monster ships we sent. What did they contain? Just the couple hundred odd troops that were landed?

5. Make sure that all your mighty warships sit motionless, well in range of the highly inflammatory "bug spit" that zaps through the air.

6. Have your troops carry weapons that don't seem very effective. Again don't have any tanks, missiles, rockets, etc. Just have some fancy looking pop guns. You can use little missiles, but only infrequently, and then up close where there is a good chance that you will also blow up your own troops.

I'm not some indignant Lt. General. I spent a measly 4 years in the Navy, and I like computer strategy games. But as militarily unsophisticated as I am, I nearly pulled my hair out watching these idiotic tactics. I'm sure glad that folks like Generals Guderian and Rommel weren't around to see this. They would have apoplexy for sure. END

Summary: Total fun!!!
Review: This movie is my new all time favorite "no story but total action" movie of all time. From the very begining...and i mean the very begining, there is none stop action. There is sex, fighting, bugs, explotions...everything a good action movie needs and more!!! Well worth the buy. Its one of those rare movies you can watch more than once in a short span of time. END

Summary: My new Favorite movie
Review: When I first heard of this movie it was from my friends who painted a picture of detailed decapations and action that was unheard of. they didn't like it all that much. I saw it however and I fell in love. It currently is on the top of my list as my favorite movie since WaterWorld which was just as awsome. I give it 5 stars times one hundered. END

Summary: Starship Troopers
Review: Based on Robert Heinlein's classic science fiction novel of the same name, "Starship Troopers" takes the archetypical war epic to the next level with a heapin' helpin' of all the gory, special effects-laden action a jaded movie-goer could want. And then some.

While much hyperbole has risen about director Paul Verhoeven's facist undercurrent, the theme of "propaganda-as-recruitment video" is, in my opinion, strictly a gimmick. An examination of Verhoeven's previous films like "Basic Instinct", Showgirls", and even the well written, brilliantly conceived "Robocop" reveal that he tends to promote style over substance anyway.

Getting off my soapbox and back into a review of the DVD/film, I have to say that "Troopers" is a thoroughly entertaining disc from start to finish and manages to push all the right buttons for me. The story, an odd mix of "Saved by the Bell's" corny teen romance and "Platoon's" bitter tragedy, holds your interest just long enough before the eye candy can set in. Casper Van Dien heads the cast of relative unknowns and while earnest, their performances are serviceable at best. Special recognition should go however, to Dina Meyer for her enthusiastically fiesty performance as the beautiful but butch soldier who falls erroneously for lockjawed Van Dien's character.

On the feature side of things, "Troopers" has all the gadgets and gizmos you'd want in a reference disc and even a few you'd normally hope for but don't often get like deleted scenes, and a behind the scenes segment. There are even screen tests of the actors included! Now this is how a DVD should be...

Highly Recommended
