Rating: Summary: Greatest Sci Fi film ever. Review: Finally, a film that provides great special effects and a well conceived plot. Also, believe it or not, a film without people smoking. Looks like the tobacco lobby missed paying off the actors in this one. Can't wait for the sequel.
Rating: Summary: Simply GREAT!!! Review: Dont take this movie too seriously, the acting was SUPPOSED to be bad and the script and dialogue were SUPPOSED to be bad. This is a spoof of WWII movies. It also tangles with the idea of military goverment and propaganda and i just loved the special effects(But the bugs did not look frightening enough).i just loved it i could watch this movie a hundred time, actually i think im gonna go see it now.
Rating: Summary: second only to Dr Strangelove in the anti-war film catagory Review: Either the satire works for you or it doesn't. But I don't understand how anyone could not appriciate one of the most satirical lines in cinema history--"Games and theory? That's military intelligence!"
Rating: Summary: Great action and spectacular special effects Review: Great action and spectacular special effects (computer animation) film, if you are at all squeamish on body parts (not connected to other body parts), this is not the film for you.
Rating: Summary: Fun, but very stupid movie Review: Eye-popping special effects. Turn off your brain and the movie's a lot of fun. It's so politically correct that it makes me want to throw up: yeah right, the men and women showering together and thinking nothing of it, sure. The characters are so stupid that they make me laugh my head off: They stand in a circle and shoot inward to kill the bugs, uh huh. Never mind what they did to Heinlein's story!
Rating: Summary: "Starship Troopers" is a blast! Review: You clever man Paul Verhoeven! You knew that DVDs would be the next biggest thing to hit our entertainment units, and you made a film especially for this medium. Mind-blowing digital effects, spectacular surround sound....this is THE ultimate movie that a DVD owner should have in their library. I have watched this title about 50 times now (no exaggeration) and I am still amazed by it every time. I have played it on slow speed and advanced it frame by frame and I still can't tell what's fake and what's not. The story is simple: Clean cut kids fight deadly arachnid aliens to save the Earth from destruction. Who cares about the story? This is a sight and sound roller coaster ride. Turn the lights down low, crank the surround sound to high and be blown through the ceiling by a truly great sci-fi adventure movie. Please Mr Verhoeven, make "Starship Troopers 2". You left the ending way open for a sequel.
Rating: Summary: Why borrow Heinlein's title and throw away his story? Review: Whoever this movie appeals to - and there seem to be a lot of you out there - I doubt if many of them are Heinlein fans. To take just two things that are drastically wrong with the movie:1. "Starship Troopers" without powered suits is like "Midway" without aircraft carriers. It's a completely different story. If Verhoeven couldn't hack the powered suits - and I find that hard to believe - he should have left the story till the technology caught up. The whole idea is that the MI have superior equipment, which makes up for lack of numbers. 2. The "anti-fascist satire" angle involves either completely (wilfully) misunderstanding everything Heinlein was trying to say, or simply ignoring it. What Verhoeven portrays as "fascism" is what Heinlein was recommending! He was pointing out that you can't stay free indefinitely unless you are willing to fight. That fighting involves a good chance of dying, and people who aren't willing to take that chance don't deserve to enjoy the benefits. This is a familiar theme to Americans - "the tree of liberty must be watered with the blood of patriots" - although it is deeply unfashionable right now. Bottom line - Verhoeven and his crew took a brilliant SF novel with a great action plot and some very deep moral ideas behind it, and turned it into a sad quasi-futuristic horror story that makes "Alien" look sophisticated.
Rating: Summary: Vietnam with a silver lining....? Review: Ladies and gentleman and fellow crytics...to all those who think this is a terrible movie, please evolve! I note that many of bad reviews come from people who obviously expected some kind of artful, informative, educational classic. All this snobbery will be the death of cinema. Once in a while a film comes along that may termed a spoof and this film undeniably falls well into this category of pure tongue in cheek fantasy laced with an antiseptic dusting of humour. Detach yourself from reality, do all the things that don't come naturally to you, learn not to take life so seriously, and finish off by laughing....a great film!
Rating: Summary: Comedy, Violence, Nudity, Who could ask for more??? Review: This movie wasn't at all the big action movie that they tried to make it, but it was still a very cool movie. It is so violent, you actually find yourself laughing when someone dies. If you like lots of mindless violence and laughs this moive is a good choice.
Rating: Summary: I think people take this movie the wrong way. Review: I've argued with people regarding this movie, and different persons reactions to it. Some hate it, some love it, others just don't understand it. You want a good way to approach this movie? It's a comic book...simple as that. Forget about the facism, and nationalism, idealism. There is no room for ism's in this movie. It's just a pure sit back and enjoy, the special effects, the costumes, the lack of acting abilities on most of the casts part. It's a good movie to watch after a rough day of work, where you're mind is occupied by the movie but not trying to analyse it. I think of this movie as stress relief, nothing more, nothing less.
