Summary: FANS OF COMIC, AVOID THE FILM!
Review: With the spur of comic to film lately exploding onto the big screen, this has to be the worst interpretation to date. As a fan of Ang Lee's movie, it nearly pains me to have to rate the film so badly and pains me even more when I was sitting through the 2 over hour of sheer horror. The director was clearly out of his league when he chose to work on the film that was already plague with numerous problems even before he took over.

1. The film first draft by first-time director Jonathan Hensleigh was scrapped in 1998 after Universal has already spent $20 million into computer development.

2. The current film saw 3 writers. The last film that had such major rewrites was Mission Impossible 2, which was also plagued with bad script that forced Mission 1 director, Brain De Palma to exit the sequel.

3. In the movie, Ang dabbled with a recessed childhood memory that Bruce Banner suffered as a child. This was discussed over and over again in the film but was never fully explained. Not everyone is a Hulk follower. What exactly happened to Bruce at that fateful day haunted him forever and is also what drove him to become Hulk! Instead of teasing the audience over and over again, providing numerous versions of that same fateful afternoon. Ang should just go straight to the point and explain the key plot issue and get it over with so viewers can sit back to enjoy the development of the character.

4. The CG effects on the Hulk will most likely be blamed for the downfall of the film. The Hulk was covered in near darkness for more than 3/4 of his appearance in the film. It could have been an effort to make the Hulk look more real. One scene of Hulk in daylight exposed the poor CG effect that in this day and age looked dated. Perhaps Ang should have engaged Harry Potter's (Dobby) and Lord of the Rings' (Gollum) Special Effects Supervisor instead. The expression and movement on Hulk appeared almost amatuarish.

5. Eric Bana was a total disappointment. His acting as the Bruce Banner, the suffering scientist was over the top. It was as though he was plastered with the same "excruciating" that by the end of the film it was excruciating to watch.

As great a director as Ang Lee is, the Hulk only proved that even he could have his misses. What it reflected was a perhaps his lack of understanding for the material and a problematic script.

Summary: Alternate Alterations make Hulk sulk
Review: Ang Lee, director of 'Crouching Tiger Hidden Plot', messes up another movie, this time to the dismay of comic book and Hulk fans alike.

Eric Bana, a probable winner of a Corey Feldman look-alike contest, plays Bruce Banner, a nano-technology scientist in Berkeley who gets zapped by an overdose of gamma radiation in a lab accident. I doubt he's the first one in Berkeley to feel strange after playing with chemicals.

The Lee brothers, Stan and Ang, put together YET ANOTHER alternate universe and change how a Marvel character was formed. They do this by making Bruce's father, David, played during the present day scenes by Nick Nolte, injects himself with an experiment to improve physical self-repair. This was before Bruce was conceived; so, Bruce inherited the concoction genetically, and, with the gamma burst, becomes CGI Hulk.

Nick Nolte is looking a lot like his recent mug shot and his acting isn't too far off that angle, either.

Betty Ross, Bruce's love interest, is played by Jennifer Connelly. There's only so far you can make a sexy woman seem very nerdy. Ang Lee overkills the 'beauty and the beast' aspect for the movie. I was waiting for the Dawson's Creek theme to chime in. :P

The only thing that saves the acting, directing, and writing are the action sequences and the special effects. There were times during the movie where I wasn't sure if I was watching 'Hulk' or the Discovery Channel.. a habit I hope Ang Lee would break sometime soon.

Movie Warnings: profanity (mostly by war-happy General Ross played by Sam Elliott), starfish and bullfrog cruelty, rabid French poodle fighting, and still no answer to the Hulk's amazing stretch pants. And a WHOLE lot of missed opportunity for San Francisco humor, where it was filmed.

If you're a diehard Hulk fan, I warn you that the writing might upset you... might not turn you green but it might upset you.

I can recommend paying the matinee ticket price for kids into action movies but not into storylines.

Summary: Cheesy, boring and completely uncompelling
Review: I saw the movie, and it is just not good. I had really low expectations for this movie, but as a comic book fan i was really hoping my expectations would be proven wrong. For the most part, they weren't. Sure there's a few cool action scenes, but what the film really lacks is any interesting characters.

Bruce Banner is just boring. Nothing about the guy is the least bit interesting. Betty Ross is a little more fleshed out than Bruce, but still not very interesting. The real stand out performance is Nick Nolte, who really brought alot to the character of David Banner. He made him seem like a real person, and that's what the other characters couldn't do.

The storyline is very [weak] and predictable. It pretty much follows the same storyline as king kong (big monster saves girl, big monster is captured, big monster gets aggravated and escapes, then breaks everything in sight). Some of the action stuff was pretty good, but there were no "wow, did you see that?" scenes. The movie spends too much time with Bruce not having hulk powers, I nearly fell asleep in the first 40 minutes of the film where eseentially nothing happens. The hulk dogs were [weak]. The editing style of the film, which gets a bit disorientating, was interesting but gets very annoying. The split screen scenes feel very unnecessary and are there just to make the movie look flashier.

If you're a die-hard hulk fan, you might like this movie. I for one was very unimpressed by the film, and expected much more from ang lee. I just hope T3 is better than this was.

Summary: what would you have them do?
Review: I have to say that im tired of all this Hulk bashing. Everyone's sayin that theres too much CGI, but what else are they going to do? go out and find a green guy 2 stories tall with the intelligence of a peanut and tell him to jump the grand canyon. Right. The truth is is that since the 1970's tv show they've come a long way and I think that Ang Lee and all the people involved in this movie deserve a lot of credit.

Summary: crap..
Review: just like the other guy i decided to WATCH the movie before giving a review rather than basing my reviews on the trailer or the comic books written however many years ago... this movie was TERRIBLE... it dragged on and on and on and on.. at the end i was ready to put a gun to my head. They tried to make it WAY too deep and (for lack of a better word) mystical.. the movie had potential to be awesome, but it fell short in every way possible. Yes the movie may do well (mostly because of all the hardcore comic book nerds that will go see it) and no i dont hate all comic book based movies, i thought spiderman was good, x-2 was good (i liked it better than x-1 personally) the only parts of this movie i enjoyed was watching the hulk goin around breakin things. movie of the summer? yehhhh right. Even the breathtaking CGI scenes and great action scenes weren't enough to make up for the movies shortcommings. Lucky enough to see the workprint? Well i saw it about 8 days ago and didn't feel it was worth my effort to write about it i was so disappointed, but since the other person who saw the workprint decided to give a review, i decided i'd give my review on the flipside. All i know, i want my dollar back.

Summary: GIVE IT A CHANCE...
Review: Hulk fans seem to be divided over this movie. Fans of the comic book are really enthused, whereas fans of the Bixby/Feringo TV series seem disappointed. While i do sympathize more with the comic book fans because i grew up with Peter David's great writing, i think we need to give this movie a chance as an individual effort. instead of measuring it against past episodes in different genres, why don't we clear our mind of all biases and expectations, and enjoy this movie as the achievement that it is: the first silver-screen blockbuster featuring the HULK!

i was slightly disappointed that they altered the origin drastically in the first half (i didn't like the altered origin in the tv series, either, so i adjusted). actually, i was really bored the first half of the movie. but i gave it a chance and the second half delivered for all of the shortcomings of the first. like me, you may be bored at first, but stick around for the end because it's worth it.

Summary: IVE SEEN IT
Review: Was it better than spiderman? maybe...

was it better than the Matrix Reloaded? DEFINATELY.

The big difference I noticed between this movie and Spidey was that Spidey was alot,,and I mean ALOT more light-hearted. The Hulk is gritty, grim, and very dark. I do not recall one scene in the entire movie that made me giggle. There were no jokes thrown in by the writer to make the mood lighter, they just went for the throat and didn't stop.

Eric Bana IS Bruce Banner. You see the conflict and pain in every scene. He is a broken man that knows nothing of his past, nothing of his real family. The only person close to him is Betty, and he has even found a way to screw that up. You can tell he has an awful lot of stuff bottled up, and that its about to burst at any time.

The CGI on the Hulk looks great. When people are shooting at him, you can see the bullets bouncing off his skin. There is a scene near the end where The Hulk changes back into Bruce, and the effects on it were really nice too. There were tons of "money shots" to mention, but I'm not one to spoil the masses. I will give you one hint for one of my favorites scenes though...Hulk in Space? almost.

The ending was great, it totally set it up for The Hulk 2, which I'm sure is comming. I'll definately be in the theatre for this one opening night, as well as you should be.

Summary: they've got to be kidding!?
Review: i hate to say this but it looks cheesy, i saw the trailer for the film & it pains me to watch the hulk who i liked very much as kid be reduced to a joke on the big screen ,when it could've been great. but they try to make the hulk something he's not a moron . but they actually make him look so , hey it could have been as great as spidey. but they never took a look for a good director they just got a third rate one & they said lets use alot of effects & make him look like king kong hollywood your brainless the hulk was never that tall . bill bixby would be turning in grave . let this movie drop & buy the series at columbia house you'll thank me.

Summary: A HUGE CHUNK OF GREEN CHEESE.
Review: I LOVED THE ORIGINAL SHOW WITH MR. BIXBY AND MR. FARIGNO. THAT'S THE REASON I GAVE THIS MOVIE 2 STARS, OUT OF RESPECT FOR THAT SERIES. IT WAS WELL ACTED AND SCRIPTED AND VERY BELIEVABLE. THIS CGI MOVIE HOWEVER, LOOKS LIKE IT WILL BE A HUGE CHUNK OF GREEN CHEESE. I'VE SEEN HORRIBLE MOVIES BEFORE THAT WERE BASED ON GREAT BOOKS AND WONDERED WHY THEY DIDN'T FOLLOW THE BOOK MORE CLOSELY. I KNOW THE HULK IS A COMIC BOOK CHARACTER, BUT I HAVE A FEELING THIS TIME I'LL BE WONDERING WHY THEY DID FOLLOW THE COMIC SO CLOSLY. LOOKS LIKE A HUGE GREEN MISTAKE.
