Rating: Summary: Okay on first viewing, but doesn't hold up over time Review: The very best episodes of the Star Trek television series (pl) are those which hold up viewing after viewing--a strong plot, charismatic characters, believable dialogue, and unique (usually) story. The same holds for the films, which is why this one is disappointing compared to most of its predecessors. The story lacks strength, the humor scenes are contrived, and (in my opinion), the characterizations are wrong. Most of the main characters of The Next Generation cast are lost in the movie, particularly Geordi, Troi, and Dr. Crusher. The effects are good, but I would have preferred less effects and more substance. However, this is a fairly "good" movie by box-office standards, and worth seeing at least once, although three or more times would be too many.
Rating: Summary: Great Movie, but missing something Review: I thought that overall this film was great addition to Star Trek. Though similar plots were used in other Sci-Fi films, I think that it all worked best with Trek. The film was however missing something. It needed more of a closure to the story. Personally, I am a little tired of seeing Trek movies end with a beam-up and\or the vessel going to warp. There should have been at least a long conversation between the bridge crew about the experience they went through. I also would have liked at least a mention of Kirk's death by Picard or Riker to some other person. His death was never talked about in First Contact, this film, or Generations. But I did like this film overall, and am awaiting the next, and hopefully not the last one.
Rating: Summary: I enjoyed it immensly Review: I enjoyed this movie and I loved the humurous moments especially the interaction between Ryker & Troi.
Rating: Summary: Technical Details Review: For the viewer from Toronto who asks "How many video/audio tracks are there? Is there widescreen and pan&scan? How many languages is the movie encoded in? (they certainly don't provide enough information here at Amazon...." -Well, I think most of the information is available, simply click on the "Click here for more technical details about this edition... " tag just under the "Edition Details" section below the cover-art picture. This wonderful link takes you to a full description including all the Dolby encoding info, languages, aspect ratio - everything you need to know! I rely heavily on the Dolby encoding information and always check that before purchasing, especially when there are several versions available. Having mentioned the cover-art, you can click on that too and get a higher resolution picture as well. http://www.imdb.com/ will certainly give you all the rest!
Rating: Summary: Craftmanship - yes, Great sci-fi - NO ! Review: Well, Insurrection is coming to DVD in May, usually it takes 6 months after release to go to video - this must mean this film did terrible in the box office. Jonathan Frakes in an interview said he put less time into this film than in FC so that he could be with his family more, well it shows. And as for Rick Berman, all I can say is that I wish he would spend ALL of his time with his family and let someone else with more imagination and daring take over the Star Trek franchise. And that's all I have to say about that!
Rating: Summary: LAME Review: Thank god for Star Trek V, else This would be by far (!) the worst of the lot. There is nothing else to say, except buyer beware. Oh ya, ps. to bad there is not a choice for zero stars.

Rating: Summary: Insurrection: back to the basics. Review: Insurrection, in my opinion, is one of the best, if not the best, Trek movie with runner-ups only in The Wrath of Kahn and, possibly, The Undiscovered Country. The movie contains little action for a change. It returns to the character interactions of the TNG series and adds some. The plot was predictable, but still entertaining. By far its best attributes are its humor and philosophical content. The food for thought was good, whether the viewer comes to agree with it or not. It's also nice to see Data without the emotion chip, a big improvement over First Contact.
Rating: Summary: A decent Star Trek film Review: I am a long time Treker and a devoted fan. Although this was a good film it was not as good as the previous Next Generation films, Generations and First Contact. I think I got a little to exctied by the previews and was a little let down. The film was entertaining with great special effects and good bits of humor. The film seemed like an extended episode which im not sure is good or bad. All in all a great entertaining film but not as great as the other Star Trek films.
Rating: Summary: The plot doesn't have the Star Trek feel. Review: Burried beneath great special effects, the plot comes out as being pretty exciting. I've got to tell you, this movie didn't give me that feel you get - the one that makes you say, "I must be watching Star Trek." Call me crazy, but Generations, and First Contact, both gave me that feeling; Insurrection just lacked that enthusiasm. I'm hoping for a better movie in Star Trek X.
