Summary: One heck of a good time!
Review: Big G is back! He's big! He's loud! He's cheesy! It's just the way Godzilla is supposed to be! Hey Develin and Emmerich take note: Godzilla isnt an iguana! This stomping good movie goes back to the days when the Godzilla movies were a lot of fun to watch. In my opinion, the Godzilla of 1998 took the Big G movie too serious. Whats more, the movie didnt even have a believable story line! With the newest and grandest installment, its credibility comes from the fact that youre not supposed to believe (scientifically or otherwise) the story line. The Japanese know how to entertain, and did it well here! Maybe in the next Toho outing, Big G can stomp through Hollywood and take out Develin and Emmerich's houses, for what they did in their version! I took my eight yr old son to see this and enjoyed it just as much if not more than he did! Hats of to Toho Company Ltd. By the way, its the only time Ive seen a film company logo get cheered! Keep it up, and three cheers for Godzilla 2000!

Summary: Ham and Cheese on Wry
Review: Hot damn! Godzilla's back and Tokyo's got him! The latest installment in the man-in-a-rubber-suit chronicles concerns a giant, flying Macintosh mouse bent on scrubbing humans from the planet so their alien cargo can move in. Godzilla comes to the rescue, but not without stomping every darn building in sight in the mean time. In retaliation, the aliens use Godzilla's own Regenerative powers against him, creating a giant jellyfish that mutates throughout the ensuing battle, almost defeating the lizard hero. Godzilla 2000 owes a great deal more to American cinema than most might care to admit. At every turn, echoes of Independence Day, Jurassic Park, Men in Black and even 1998's Godzilla reverberate. For example, when we see the big G for the first time, he's just scaly skin and a big eye. Close up: the pupil dilates. Later, as he's confornting a jeep containing members of the "Godzilla Prediction Network", he leans in close and snorts, fogging the windshield. Anyone seen Spielberg lately? The alien ship hovers over a Tokyo tower, Independence Day-like, and, yes, before the movie is over, the building explodes, story by story in the style made famous by Emmerich & Devlin. And director Okawara must have really liked the US version of Godzilla, because he's outfitted his monster with a marvelous prehensile tail that inflicts almost as much damage as the CGI lizard's did. As for the tip of a hat to Men in Black, well, I'll just let you see how he defeats the giant critter at the end. The dubbing was horrendous, sad to say, rarely matching any of the onscreen characters' lips, but whoever wrote the translated screenplay should receive an academy award. "These missiles should go through him like crap through a goose!" says one old soldier. I asked my companion if they used that phrase in Japan. "Southern Japan," she replied. Earlier, when the big G is clobbering the offices of the local newspaper, one of the editors howls, "Great Caesar's Ghost!" Shades of Perry White at the old Daily Planet. When asked why Godzilla keeps coming back to save Japan, even though they do their damnedest to kill him, the leader of the GPN replies, "Maybe because there's a little Godzilla in all of us." How wonderfully meaningless! Godzilla 2000 is a great romp through the old monster movies of our childhood and the CGI masterpieces of our present. He's a reptile for the ages and he rocks my world.

Summary: Godzilla:Doesn't Really Roar
Review: I have been a fan of the Godzilla series since I was a little boy. I loved the American version of "Godzilla" starring Matthew Broderick in 1998, so I was very anxious to see this newest Japanese creation. I was hoping the Japanese would of taken some pointers from the 1998 high tech version. Well, they didn't, and as a result the movie looks fake,cheap, and laughable. The two saving graces of the movie is the laughable dialogue and of course the familiar roar. Maybe if I would not of seen the 1998 American version, I would of liked this one more. This movie is nothing more than a guy in a costume stomping on a model Toyko, fighting a cheap looking plate, being passed off as a flying saucer. Even for the biggest Godzilla fan, this movie is hard to take. Do yourself a favor, stick to the 1998 Matthew Broderick version. It has more stomp to it...

Summary: Godzilla is Reborn
Review: This is an enjoyable movie. Godzilla is back and better then ever. He still is effective even in this age of CGI dinosaurs. Godzilla 2000 is a return to the same quality that went into the movies when the great Isihro Honda was making them. But was lacking in the Godzilla films from Godzilla 1985 to Godzilla vs Destroyah. Somewhat a hero but not quite a villian either, Godzilla is a force of nature and this film treats him as such. At the climax, he does fight an alien creature that sort of resembles the American Godzilla from 1998, Maybe Toho was taking pot shots at Devlin and Emmerich. Anyway, even in this age of STAR WARS, Godzilla still delivers a great film, so let's enjoy it.

Summary: HAIL TO THE KING! "G-2000" DELIVERS!
Review: "Godzilla 2000," is a true epic of monster preportions! This film surprised me - a true G-fan in every sense of the term - with it's first rate monster designes, it's awsome musical score (as good as Akira Ifukube even, especially his theme music!), and even some terrific computer effects work! (Big surprise there!) The emphisis on Godzilla as an unstopable force-of-nature is taken to new levels here (the opening scene is in my opinion the highlight of the film, with ambitious camera angles and atmoushpere), and the villian monster Orga is marvelous in all of his different stages. This movie has a mood to it, not seen since the original - and "Godzilla 1985," as the big guy approaches land, everything stops - and is unbearably still (very eerie!). It's just like a tornado approaching, giving this film terrific realizm (yes, I know this is a Godzilla movie I'm talking about). Another thing is the human side of things: - The dubbing works nice here, very synced with the mouth movements. But it's never, never going to be perfect. - I enjoyed the characters, more everyday kinds of people. The main hero and his daughter run a G observation network, shades of "Twister," might be noticed here. And genuine humour is evident, like any regular domestic release, not unintentional, like in some of the early '70's entries. All around, I LOVED "Godzilla 2000" I recomend it to life-long fans, and even casual observers will find this piece entertaining. My favorite of all time, along with the newer Heisei series (exellent by the way, but "G-2000" is simply on a whole other level) serves up delicious action-packed entertainment.

Summary: THE GREATEST MOVIE EVER MADE
Review: Godzilla 2000 is the greatest movie ever made. Godzilla is such a complicated specie. He/she protects yet destroys. After viewing this spectacle, I was able to embrace the Godzilla karma. This is the best movie of all time.

Summary: Blows the 1998 American version out of the water!
Review: There is only one King of the Monsters,and he is risen. See him in all his Tokyo stomping glory,with this movie. For longtime fans and those new to BIG G.Effects are much better then his previous outings.Makes the 1998 version look sick(it doesnt take too much to do that).Do yourself a favor and go see it.Toho finally came to its senses and brought back the KING.

Summary: Better than the Last Toho Movie
Review: I didn't think that this Godzilla wouldn't beat Godzilla vs. MechaGodzilla 2 or Godzilla vs. Destroyer..but it sure did. The special effects are much better than the last 5 movies combined. i didn't care for Godzilla's new face, for it seemed a bit puppetish..but the heat ray that the big guy showed was quite impressive..especially on the big screen. The fight with Orga wasn't as exciting as MechaGodzilla 2, but overall...the movie was excellent. I hope that the U.S. will keep bringing the big guy to the big screen.

Summary: Godzilla back in the form we know and love!
Review: Let me get something out of the way right off the bat. DO NOT SEE THIS MOVIE UNLESS YOU CAN APPRECIATE THE DELIGHTFUL HORRIBLENESS OF IT. That being said, Godzilla 2000 is, far and away, the best movie I have seen this summer. While I did find much enjoyment in Gladiator, M:I 2, etc., G2K puts them all to shame. Nowhere else can you sample from such a large buffet of terrible dialogue (EX: Did you see that giant flying rock go by?) or bask in the awesomeness of men in rubber suits beating the bejesus out of each other...very slowly. The quality of this movie is heightened even further by the CGI effects which would have been cutting edge in 1980. As for the plot? In summation, a UFO which had been lying dormant under the ocean returns to life to wreak havoc on Japan and the only thing that can stop it is the Big G. Any further detail would only give away the surprise one gets from realizing exactly how completely silly this plot is. To summarize: The monsters are rubbery, the dubbing is awful, the matte shots are obvious, the special effects aren't that special -- This movie is awesome! The whole time I rolled in the aisle laughing at such concepts as a team devoted to the study of Godzilla (Actually named the Godzilla Prediction Network). I've seen this movie twice already and am planning a third outting before school starts in a week.

Summary: Godzirraaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa!
Review: Isn't it interesting that 23 times, almost every year, Tokyo is just completely obliviated and destroyed by Godzilla, and then restored within the next movie...and then destroyed again? Godzilla 2000 goes back to the old Godzilla way of making movies, instead of the computer, fancy-schmancy stuff. It uses puppets and models and stuff that's noticably fake. But, it doesn't take away much of the movie, since you probably already know that Godzilla is cheesy. They do use a bit of CGI, but only to pretty much mock CGI. You'll see what I mean. The dubbing was really hilarious, and there are lots of great lines. You'll enjoy this movie if you don't take it seriously, and like funny stuff, funny lines, slapstick dueling, poor dubbing, and a good popcorn. It's worth the cheap matinee price, and the ending was hysterical. That's all.
