Summary: Reign Of Fire
Review: A promising premise goes bad. Plot points that go no where, accents so thick and unreal that the dialogue is hard to follow and Matthew McConaughey, well he is constantly on the verge of tears and hysteria. One the way home, my partner insisted that my movie selection priviledges have been suspended for 30 days. Absolutely pass on this one. The special effects are great, but not enough to carry this mess of a movie. Wait till its a discount rental which should be very, very soon.

Summary: An atypical "B" flick with grade-A effects!
Review: Sure, this movie is a mish-mash of Mad Max, King Arthur, and Dragonslayer. Sure there are holes and a few question marks in the plot. But then again...we're watching a movie about dragons and the people who live in a future time where dragons rule so, why question it to begin with?
I was afraid of seriously cheesey dragon effects a la Dungeons and Dragons, but WOW was I pleasantly surprised! The creatures were well textured and moved almost cat-like. The fire they breathed didn't look all pixellated like a lot of fire done with CGI. That all combined to deliver a good-looking (?) set of monsterous dragons.
The sound was probably the best I've heard in a long time. The theater I saw it in is set up for Dolby Digital surround...and let me tell you: this movie made FULL use of the sound system!!! Dragons flying all around you..and when they growled..whoa..puts a shiver down your spine!!!
Go see it, don't believe it....just enjoy it. The actors are all excellent, even though at times the British actors's accents were so thick it made understanding them all but impossible. This movie is around 1 hr. and 40 minutes long...not too short and not too long...but long enough enjoy the heck out of yourself!!!

Summary: fun fun fun
Review: what do you expect oscar nominated epic. uh this rocks but it wont win no oscar. this was a very fun mix of mummy and fast and the furious. fire breathing dragons take over england and they sure love humans for food. matthew mcconaughey plays the very cool hotshot. every action movie has one or two of them. well this was a fast paced action thriller and i was on the edge of my seat the whole time. just go see it and give your self a brain check at the door.

Summary: It's not Lord of the rings and it's not dungeon &dragons!
Review: A film that probably isn't worth watching with all those other movies still on the screens! Matthew McConaughey presents a reasonably impressive effort. But he was better in U571. It's a confusing modern day Medieval drama-if that makes sense. It's too much of a fantasy! It's like reading an encyclopedia of a sci-fi version of old legends. Then why did I even give it 4 stars? Hey-I like the dragons. The best thing in the movie were the dragons. The impressive special effects used in creating the dragons-bold fire breathing creatures were great! Still it's nothing like Lord of the Rings! It's set in present day London where a mum wakes up a dragon-hidden for centuries. It's up to the son to save a small community still alive twenty years later! Still the movie wasn't all that bad with the dragons entertaining the audience. It's a goofy flick but still sort of interesting. Think of it as a fantasy and you'd like it. It's not that original-it's a mixture of a lot of fantasy flicks I've seen (namely Armageddon, Godzilla, and Dungeons &dragons). It isn't a movie that'll be named a classic years from now but it's still enjoyable. I wouldn't mind riding a rollercoaster produced after the movie. The movie can be described as a thrilling-horror theme park ride. Summary: Actors give earnest effort but movie is a mess
Review: I had high hopes for Reign Of Fire, but in the end, the movie is a mess of choppy sequenced shots and plot and little action with the dragons. The trailer pretty much gives you all of the action with the dragons. The rest of the movie is bits and pieces of apocolyptic fare that seems to have taken a page from Mad Max. I am giving the movie 3 stars only because the stars, to include McConaughey, put forth an earnest effort, but in the end, their performances could not save this beast from burning out.

Summary: Ugh...
Review: How is it possible to have a movie with the coolest looking fire breathing/man eating dragons in it and still manage to suck? After the novelty of the dragons wears off, this movie loses whatever charm it had and tanks badly. Every dvd of this movie should be gathered up and fed to dragons. Stay away from this picture.

Summary: Better than most
Review: Gerard Butler brings a sensitivity to the movie, as well as the courage and bravory of a "Knight".
The movie is for the "thinking man", the bad reviews are not to be considered. This film seems true to life in believe-ability; the dragons could not have been more "real" in looks movements and fire breathing action; in flight they are magnificent!
The men are wonderful with the children, in keeping them strong and unafraid in there horrowing situation. They are as men Should be these days, protective of their women and children.
The costumes are rustic and real.
The movie can be compared to "King Author" in style. A Great action movie, mystical, gritty and Wonder-full.

Summary: Extravagant Special Effects, But Not Much of a Plot
Review: With a whopping $95-million budget, Rob Bowman's sci-fi/fantasy/action/thriller entitled "Reign of Fire" did not even break-even at the box office. It's weak, apocalyptic story begins in present-day London where construction workers, led by Karen Abercromby (Alice Krige, who played the Borg Queen in the 1996 film "Star Trek VIII: First Contact"), accidentally unearth and awaken a living dragon that begins a rampage of destruction. This first dragon is quickly joined by thousands more that virtually obliterate the surface of the earth, leaving only a few, beaten remnants of humanity in isolated pockets worldwide. The story moves twenty years into the future with one of those pockets struggling to survive about 90 kilometers from London. It is led by Quinn Abercromby (Christian Bale, who is slated to be Batman in the next Batman film for 2005), who as a boy (Ben Thornton), witnessed the unearthing of the first dragon by his mother. Without warning, a group of possible marauders appears in tanks. Instead, they are a group of paramilitaries that use rather unorthodox methods to kill dragons. They are lead by the rough Denton Van Zan (Matthew McConaughey, who played Father Palmer Joss in the 1997 film "Contact") and have a working helicopter piloted by Alex (Izabella Scorupco, who played Natalya Simonova in the 1995 film "GoldenEye"). Most of the film's large crew worked with special effects, sound effects or visual effects; which probably accounts for most of the film's expenditures. The film received no Oscar nominations, but was nominated for Best Fantasy Film by the Academy of Science Fiction, Fantasy & Horror Films and did win a Best Visual Effects award from the Catalonian International Film Festival in Sitges, Spain. "Reign of Fire" is the third big-screen film that Rob Bowman has directed. His previous two big-screen films include the 1998 "The X Files" and the 1993 "Airborne, but most of his directorial experience comes from directing 31 episodes of the 1993-2002 TV-series "The X Files". He is clearly an up and coming big-screen film director that needs to learn how to better balance story and plot with special effects. Overall, I rate "Reign of Fire" with 3 out of 5 stars for being an entertaining film with lots of special effects, but having insufficient substance. To me, it's not as good as Matthew Robbin's 1981 film "Dragonslayer", but it is certainly much better than Courtney Solomon's 2000 flop "Dungeons & Dragons".

Summary: not bad despite the negative reviews
Review: Many people felt the need to trash this movie just because it didn't have dragons in every scene. While there are better dragon films, Reign of Fire had some good special effects to it. There are a few points of intensity,the violence factor isn't too heavy (otherwise this film would have received an R rating), and the ending seems a bit mediocre but the movie is still worth a look.
