Summary: Just like the novel, people JUST DON'T GET IT.
Review: Just like Heinlein's novels, people fail to comprehend the movie. Is it really a condemnation of military values? A condemnation of a society where everyone has obvious civil and economic rights, yet only those who have served in the military have political rights?

Perhaps not.

The plot of the book was butchered to make the film, but the book is NOT a condemnation of the society it portrays, and I am not convinced that the movie is either. It portrays humanity as a united front against an external threat. No obvious poverty or oppression of the individual - nobody gets conscripted in the film. It is really Heinlein's dream society - based on right wing values, where everyone is free to determine their own destiny.

Johnny has everything - a wealthy family, the promise of a lucrative career in the family firm, and a bed in the family mansion in the mountains. Why would he want to become a citizen?

The movie, like the book, is about the freedom of the individual to make their own choices, and what drives them to make the choices they do.

5 Stars.

Summary: More than meets the eye
Review: Even a brief glance at the numerous reviews of this movie shows it to be of the love-it-or-hate-it type. I love it! Not because of the special effects (which were great), the stunning and nerve-wrecking visuals, neither for the violence (which was abundant) nor for the humor. The two reasons why I rate this movie higher than, say Aramgeddon (which also has all of the above) are: the numerous allusions to other other movies, historical situtations and even Computer games and, more importantly, the parallels between the humans and the bugs in the movie. If you liked the movie you might want to see it again and compare the actions of the two sides in this war. I think you'll find that there are quite a few instances where the bugs behave very much like the humans (or vice versa). It might also make you compare scenes in the movie to modern or historic events. Ask yourself: if you filter out all the propaganda, disregard the fact that the bugs are absolutely revolting (to our senses) and judge only the actions, are we really all that different?

Summary: Fails completely to live up to namesake.
Review: This movie fails entirely to live up to Robert Heinlein's novel, and in fact resembles it in name only. Anyone considering this video on the merit of its supposed origin should forget about it. Heinlein is probably spinning in his grave fast enough to generate electricity.

Summary: Excellent Book, Movie/Video missed the whole point.
Review: The book presented a realistic soldier's life, in a future where one earns one's citizenship by serving the Government, in either a military or civilian capacity. Part of the impact of the book, is that, not until the very end, does the reader learn that the protagonist is Filipino. In the film, while this surprise identity would be difficult to conceal, the protagonist has been changed to a blued-eyed Anglo type, in the Hollywood tradition. The film is not science fiction. It is pure camp, fraught with cliches.

Summary: The return of the B-movie
Review: This is everything a B-Movie is ment to be. Yes the acting is bad, yes the plot is thin, yes the charactors are shallow, but hay it is a B-Movie and that is how they are suppose to be. The action is great, the special effects are way to awsome, and the basing things on WWII is the real clincher for this being one of the best B-Movies ever. I have watched it on DVD over a 100 times and still find new things each time, [like the teeth flying out of the guys head when it get sliced off. If you like B-Movies you will loves this one, if not then you will not enjoy this one at all

Summary: Who is stupid?
Review: I'm currently raising the marks of this type of movies cause we are surrounded by stupid ppl. Was this movie realistic? NO WAY! Was it fun? ONE OF THE BEST! if you guyz that give 1 star can think about it 1 seconde you'd understand that a movie is only a portal to another world....WHY would they HAVE to put every limits we have in reality!? THIS ISN'T REALITY!!! thats what are movies meant for. To give you another exemple...take the book "it" from stephen king...WHO could say its bad? I sure hope no one cause its one of his best novel....but then again is a clown only visible to childs close to REALITY!? NO WAY! If you don't like these type of movies then DON'T WATCH THEM and STOP SPAMMING for nothing!

Summary: Love it! please don't compare!
Review: Ok, Will Smith is not the star, nor any other well know actor or actresses, But I would much rather see Casper Van Dien and Denya Myers(sp?) than to look at Will smith(nothing personal against him but how many space movies can one person make). I think the actors did a good job, some of the lines was cheesy but they had no control over that so don't blame them. I think it was funny and I like the story. We all know it's not star wars and noone should try to compare it to that, The movie doesn't even look like star wars. I love the characters, story, speacial effects, and the cute guys :) yep I said it CUTE guys, people are complaining about them being good looking, well who wants to see a bunch of ugly people in a movie anyway? I say stop looking for only the bads things in the movie, believe me I have seen worst movies. I read the story and saw the movie, of course it is different it's not suppose to be the same. I don't think anyone who is critisizing the movie could do a better job at making one. I say stick to the international art house movies and your 'Fried green tomatos' dramas if you can't handle the gore. This is a great movie, I love it! I wish it was a part two!

Summary: Space Nazis kick Alien butt
Review: A very satirical, and horrendously violent film. (I would never let a child see this movie.) It doesn't have much to do with Heinlein's book. The acting is wooden, indeed barely adequate (I think the director intended to have actors that were attractive but untalented). The military is run by idiots--but isn't it always? They send in hundreds of thousands of lightly armed troops against millions of gigantic bugs armored like tanks. And what exactly is it satirizing? Is it supposed to be anti-American? The Fascist and Nazi undertones in the movie are European problems, not American. Heck, Fascism, Nazism and Communism were born in Europe, not to mention two World Wars. If Verhoeven was aiming at America he missed completely. This movie is anti-European, even if unwittingly.
