Rating: Summary: One of th best sic-fi Review: Dune is an awsome movie. The plot on twists that go on are very well done. It boggles the mind how some do not enjoy the movie
Rating: Summary: I'm still not bored of it, even after ten years! Review: So many films today are of the type you see once in the cinema, and never want to see again - particularly the major blockbusters. Dune however is different. It did not do too well at the box office, which isn't hard to explain, because it isn't a film you can sit down and understand in one go. (Unless you have read the book!) The best thing about Dune is the fact that because you cant understand it at first, you see it again, and again, until you do. When you understand it enough, you then decide to get the book, (If you haven't read it already, you're missing out.) and the book will blow you away. On returning to the film, The storyline seems simpler and in places, completely different. As I have read all of Frank Herbert's 'Dune saga', I wouldn't want a film that was a carbon copy of the first book. It would be too long and much of the book is monologue, (for instance - the Baron Harkonnen thinking to himself about Nefud's semuta addiction.) and this wouldn't work well in a film. All in all, I think that David Lynch has made the perfect film of Dune. It is complex enough to watch over and over again, and different enough from the books, not so much as to be disappointing, but yet even more watchable, because of the novelty value. The film adds to the books, the books add to the film, and if you buy the soundtrack, then you will notice a lot more of the music! This film is the greatest sci-fi of all time! (Flash Gordon runs a close second!) Alex, London, England
Rating: Summary: Whatever happened to Dune? Review: I just couldn't believe what Dune has turned to. What I read was a thrilling political novel, only set in another time and another place. When I was watching the movie, I longed to see one consistent story, regardless of the details that might have been lost while adopting the novel to a movie. Everything I watched was, shallow, obscure and irrelevant. I wonder if Lynch really read the novel.
Rating: Summary: A poor use of DVD; a poor print of a primarily visual movie Review: The DVD edition of Dune was poor, even if compared to VHS. The video should have been cleaned up, the audio is not Dolby 5.1, and the additional material is superficial. Also, there is no addition of unused footage despite the many versions of the movie Dune available on laserdisk.
Rating: Summary: Exellent! One to watch! Read Herbert's Books? Watch IT! Review: This movie manages to capture the exellent idea of the books by Frank Herbert in one movie! The special effects are great and the actors were made for this part!
Rating: Summary: Big sfx, Big plot Review: Well, Dune is definatly a bit bizar, but I still had fun watching it. It's a lot easier to like if your a sci-fi fan though. The plot in Dune is the hardest to follow I've ever seen. It's very compressed into it's two hour pressentation. So if your going to buy Dune, you should find the time to watch it a few times over. This was my determining factor between four and five stars. The special effects, however, were stunning. At least for 1984. If your an abid collector of Sci-Fi, then you probably won't regret adding this to you're collection.
Rating: Summary: Dune is it the full version? Review: As most people are aware dune would of the number one science fiction film if it wasn't for the star wars series. I must admit that I've enjoyed watching this time and time again and have several versions, unforunatley all my versions suffer from the same problem (inc DVD release which states to be the full version) and that is they have large parts from the book missing that can leave you confused. The one thing that I noticed is the two children that are in the room when Paul destroys the stone obelisk in the room with the fremen, these are the things that confused me until I had read the book and found out how much the film had left out. However if you are not into reading then the only way you can see the full version is to purchase the japanese laserdisc (which is very expensive!), although I do not wish to put anyone off buying this film because it is a very enjoyable film and every film buff should have it in their collection, I would like people to know that it is not the full version. Yours Sincerley Steve Horton England

Rating: Summary: Don't bother to listen to those ignorant fools! Review: I find it disturbing to see the lack of appreciation in what some people write about this movie. This movie not only has some of the greatest actors in any sci-fi adventure, but is based on one of the most creative and ingenious stories ever writen. Now I am aware of the fact that some people dislike this movie because it doesn't stick to the book exactly, however, one must at least attempt to appreciate the difficulty in making an incredibly long book series into a 3hr. flick. The last thing I am going to say is that you should definitely rent this movie, and if you dont decide to hate the movie before you even see it, I promise you that you will be happy you saw it.
Rating: Summary: I thought it was a great video Review: It was wonderful. I really liked the special effects. My favorite character was Paul's little sister. I can safely say this is my favorite movie. Of course it's old, but it's still pretty good. I even thought it was better than Star Wars.
