Rating: Summary: Surprizingly enjoyable. Review: My 2 favorite critics, Leonard Maltin and Roger Ebert, did not like this movie. But i was surprized to find out that I liked it. I didn't like it too much though because not only is it a compact version of the book but it seemed compacted, like you missed something. If your not farmilier with the book, the movie is incomprehensable. I love the soundtrack by Toto. Sci-Fi freaks will love this 1.
Rating: Summary: My vote for the worst film ever made..... Review: It is quite telling that that the only people I've met who have enjoyed this film saw it while stoned. Let's face it folks, this film is pretentious, dull, lifeless, incoherent, and all the analysis in the world won't make it any more entertaining. Frankly, I don't care if this film holds the secrets to life's meaning; it's still unwatchable. Who are these characters? What does the plot mean? Who could possibly care? Save some time and take a nap instead.
Rating: Summary: The best science-fiction film ever made... Review: Dune is simply the best science-fiction film ever made. This is the film by which nearly all others try to model their sci-fi films after. For those who've read the book, keep in mind that you spent much longer than two hours reading it. There is only so much that can go into this film from the book. David Lynch did not put the book on film, rather, he has created a beautiful and chilling masterpiece.
Rating: Summary: COULD HAVE BEEN MUCH BETTER !!! Review: I liked the book DUNE very much. When I saw the movie, I found out that Lynch had wasted a hellful pile of money and a good story. If only someone made a good DUNE film...
Rating: Summary: An intriguing and very deep plot Review: I thought this was and still is one of the best sci-fi movies made. I have read the book and believe it to be more revealing, but the movie is still a phenomenal piece of work. I did, however, see another version of the movie, I think it was a director's cut, that revealed more than the standard film does. The only problem is that I cannot seem to locate a copy of this director's cut anywhere.
Rating: Summary: Dune was an exellent book, the movie however is... Review: Dune was a great book, a classic. The movie, one the other hand is hard to follow-- very much so if you havent read the novel. The cast was-- for the most part, B- rate. The speacial effects were-- what can I say? 1980's. The sand worms were cool. The music, some good songs (Main theme), some bad songs. I think my review was effected by my reading of the fasinating book.
Rating: Summary: too bad 4 you Review: The long version was better..but good luck finding it!!! I got one because Im great and you're not!
Rating: Summary: Starting Point of a meaningful relationship Review: Rightio, this is what I think. I grew up with Sci - fi so those who don't like Sci - fi, run away right now, this brilliance is not for you. I must admit the movie is a little rushed and corny in a few places but even though the effects aren't up today's 'realistic' standards it addds to its charm. I First coming across 'dune'by the game which shares its namesakes and then finding the books with a friend in the school library. Couldn't understand the book and gave-up until a flicker caught my eye-DUNE THE MOVIE! I watched it and loved it. It drives everyone in my family crazy when I watch it for the 40 millionith time but I can't get enough! I have been a 'Dunie' ever since and have been pushing it on my older brother, who I think it might be sinking in. I hope you have the confidence to ignore the negative reports of this movie and go rent it, then buy it! Congrats to David Lynch! I finish this with a quote I found whilst 'surfing the net', "God created Arrakis to train the faithful, one cannot go against the word of God...or David Lynch," Alan Smithee(?) Rent this Video! Kyle Maclachlan is a B-A-B-E!
Rating: Summary: GREAT Movie! Review: A classical Sci-Fi movie, with great cast, that gives us pure 137 min. of satisfaction, regardless of the book the movie is about!
Rating: Summary: Dune - the ultimate science fiction experience Review: Yes, it is complicated. Yes, it is difficult to follow. But in its complexity comes a movie unlike any other. The amount of vision and imagination it took to create this epic cannot be contained in a 2 hour movie. In order to truly appreciate Dune, you have to do your homework and read the book. I believe Dune is the ultimate science fiction experience because Frank Herbert shows us a future that doesn't end up being a perfect Star Trek episode but rather something that will test our imagination.
