Summary: too late.....but worth the wait
Review: I completely agree that it is a lowdown, dirty trick of the studios to release two or more different DVDs for some movies, delaying the goodies for a later date to sell twice as many. But what are we, the consumers, to do? If we resist buying the movies we love to hold out for the better release, the reduced sales might create the impression that there isn't enough interest in the film, therefore lessening the chances of there even BEING a better release. And speaking for myself, I'm not real big on delayed gratification. Some movies take so long to get to DVD in the first place, to hold out even longer would be unbearable. Let's face it, they have us where they want us.Either way, I thoroughly enjoyed the extras on this disc. The commentary was the very best kind, telling humorous (at times hilarious) behind-the-scenes anecdotes of making the film and pointing out small details that I have missed even after numerous viewings. The sneak peek of X2 was thrilling, and the featurettes and interviews were very entertaining. My only complaint has to be that both discs hung up at one point, shutting down the player and necessitating starting all over again (not such a big deal with scene selection on the feature, but the extras disc is not so easily navigated). I would think after waiting so long to release this, minor bugs like that would have been worked out. Can't wait for X2!!

Summary: Great extras and great extended edition!
Review: This is a 2 disk set that is the definitive X-Men video. This version employs branching that prompts you to switch to featurettes or background info during the movie. That way you can see exactly how certain effects or plot development or considerations impacted the movie. The director commentary is great! There are loads of deleted scenes, features and the sort on the second disk. Plus for all of you anticipating the May 2 opening of X-Men 2 there is a great feautre on the X-Men 2 set. Well worth the money!

Summary: Better than Good, but not Great...
Review: It would be difficult at best to introduce an entire comic book universe and distill it into roughly 2 hours of film, but this film is the best at what it does: It gives newbies to the X-Universe a mutant 101, and gives one insight into Marvel's most popular character: Wolverine. As a long-time fan I found it to be shallow on character development, but that is the job of its (sure-to-be) sequels. The 1.5 edition gives some wonderful background info, and blends it smoothly, if not in an unusual manner, into the film. I particularly loved Hugh Jackman's (Wolverine/Logan) screen test. This may not have been every X-fan's ideal, but for a Set-Up film, it performs admirably. So, until Wolverine digs chick-flix, make mine Marvel! (and Brian Singer)

Summary: X-Men Redux
Review: The first Dvd edition of X-men was almost of reference quality. The 2.35:1 letterbox ratio was excellent and the picture image was almost flawless. The Dolby Digital track was also excellent.
I never had the pleasure of viewing this film in a state of the art auditorium. The wait is over with X-men 1.5. The special features are not the same but who cares? The DTS track is the best thing about this disc set. It is absolutely excellent and very enveloping. The Dolby Digital track is exactly the same, so you cannot go wrong either way.

Summary: 5 for the movie, 2 for the DVD
Review: ARGH . . . listen to this. Deleted scenes, right? Watch them in the extended branching version of the movie on DVD! Exciting! But these goobers at FOX can't even take the time to try and integrate the scenes into the movie. So this is what happens - the movie plays until you get to a deleted scene, and then the movie stops completely, your TV screen goes black, and then up pops the deleted scene, and after it's done it stops completely, and then goes back to the movie where you left off. This is incredibly annoying, and really, it makes the first disc worthless. Second disc is pretty interesting, although I doubt I'll watch it more than the once I already have.

Summary: This Is A Dissapointment
Review: X-MEN is one of the worst comic book flicks I have seen yet. The effects and acting in it was good but the characters and plot is bad. The thing I didn't like about this movie is the so called "X-MEN" act there the first "X-MEN", what I mean about this is that they are missing some of the X-men, where's Gambit, Beast, etc. Gambit was the coolest but evendentally the studio or the screenwriter didn't think he was cool. The other thing they should have did to make this film better is they should have stayed true to the comic book. Long Live GAMBIT!!

Summary: Could've been a better DVD
Review: In this age of DVD, which has endlessly inspired movie buffs nationwide to buy multiple copies of their DVDs as bigger and better "special editions" get released, only a few have truly gotten the concept RIGHT. Witness the Director's Edition of "Star Trek II," or the amazing second release of "The Fellowship of the Ring," which was loaded with hours and hours' worth of exciting AND informative extras about the making of the movie while simultaneously providing an entirely new cut of the movie itself which is worth viewing over and over again! On that note, we return to "X-Men." While this is mostly a tremendously entertaining movie (which is the sole reason I gave this specific DVD three stars), it is one of the very few films I've seen which I can honestly say IS NOT LONG ENOUGH. It rushes the expositional material too much, ultimately devoting a mere 90 minutes to an expansive movie that could EASILY have sustained itself for a full 2 hours. What's amazing to me is that the deleted scenes (as made initially viewable on the original "X-Men" DVD release) are not particularly extraneous; they're actually very nice moments that give us further insights into the characters, which would've helped to make this very good movie GREAT. And that, quite honestly, is what I was expecting to get when I purchased this new "X-Men 1.5"... an expanded director's cut that would actually WARRANT a re-release like this (as opposed to that shoddy branching feature on the original DVD that allows you to watch the deleted scenes in sequence with the movie, but in a VERY jolting and awkward way that makes them unbearable). The new features on this re-release aren't really exciting enough to warrant a purchase if you already own the original "X-Men" DVD (heck, most of them are branched into the movie AND the featurettes as "interactive" features, which means that you can't just sit back and enjoy... you've got to watch the TV with a hair-trigger finger on the remote! Believe you me, it's VERY obnoxious). However, if you're a collector or if you're specifically interested in behind-the-scenes material, then I'm sure you'll find this to be a worthwhile addition to your collection. I, for one, am saddened by the fact that what could have been a fantastic special edition DVD has turned out to be little more than a marketing ploy to bolster interest in the upcoming "X-Men 2" (which is hardly at a loss for public attention as it is!).

Summary: second time around
Review: Of course this is the DVD that should have come out from the getgo but it was worth the wait. More extras than you can shake Toad's tounge at. It was so cool to really see the work that went into this. I enjoyed the behind the scenes stuff especially the highlights on the makeup and costumes. Yeah, it's still frustrating to see so many cool scenes that weren't used but as a comic book fan is was comforting to see that Bryan Singer and the crew really wanted to make this excellent and not another hack comic film (ex: The Punisher).The X-Men 2 sneak peek was really nice but there are so many other nuggets on part 1 the sneak wasn't really necessary. So if you love the series, are a major behind the scenes special feature nut, or did not buy the orginal X-Men DVD this is the one to have.

Summary: REASONS TO UPGRADE
Review: The Movie? Awesome. But, being its first movie, I thought that it maybe didn't get into the depth of the X-men quite yet. It was really just scratching the surface. Introducing. Setting up. Not a real complicated story. Obviously... it was setting itself up for sequels. Fine with me. That just tells me that X2 is gonna be over-the-top. Now... like a lot of you out there, I bought the first release of X-men, and now, after some unknown force drew me toward the DVD rack at Target and made me buy the upgrade, I'll tell you why It was a good move: 1. 17 new featurettes of behind-the-scenes footage... 17!
2. A viewing mode that takes you behind-the-scenes as you're watching the movie and inserts the deleted scenes.
3. Audio commentary by Bryan Singer (Wasn't on the first)

4. 4 more huge featurettes, movie premiere footage, multi-angle studies lets you see what Bryan Singer had to edit with.
5. The best behind-the-scenes footage for both movies X & X2 that I've ever seen.
*Bryan Singer gives a personal tough to it. Admits he's not a big fan of releasing 2 DVD's but says you won't be disappointed. And he's right! and finally... Why this DVD is worth the money.... I'm an X-MEN freak, but I recommend this DVD big time.
