Summary: Disappointing Post Atomic Flick with Rather Strange Ideology
Review: Old and flabby Charlton Heston is trying to look sexy in this movie which artistic direction is just as flabby as the old Chuck. There is always something exciting about post atomic situations when the hero is the last man on earth and is living besieged by creatures in a fortified luxurious apartment (thus the two stars).

The only problem in this movie is that the creatures are not so much creatures but men with a bad complexion in laughable middle-age frocks. Therefore, it start to feel very strange that our hero is trying to exterminate people who talk like normal people, eat (junk) food like normal people, and who even have the feelings of regretting some of their own kind being killed by Chuck.

It would be easy to say here that the NRA spokesman is just too happy to massacre all these unarmed poor souls (because on top of everything, these "creatures" are part of a sect which prohibits the use of firearms and other modern technologies which destroyed the earth). In addition, the black woman of the movie is of course coming from Harlem (you know, that country in the North where all the black people come from) whereas Chuck is describing himself, in a scene when he is giving his blood which will save humanity, as pure Anglo-Saxon. I will pass on the last scene when the Messiah who saved humanity (still Chuck) is symbolized by his US Army cap (like the saviours of humanity are our brave soldiers. But did they not destroy it on the first place?).

Well, despite being laughable and ideologically stinky, it is still watchable on a rainy evening with your kids like a good old Starsky and Hutch episode.

Summary: The best in 70's sci-fi The Omega Man
Review: The best horror and sci-fi films were made in the 70's, The Omega Man is one of them.Charlton Heston does a great job as the last man on earth who is trying to defend himself against a group of mutant survivors called The Family. The film was quite spooky for it's time and there's no other like it.It has a great music score by Ron Grainer which is funky and spooky which makes the movie great.I love this film !!!, and I look forward to the DVD release.

Summary: Omega Man and the NRA?
Review: As I was watching this film all I could think of was: is there a link between Charlton Heston's image as the spokeman (President?) for the NRA and his character and image in the film? Is this where it all started?

The film captures the lull in the history of filmmaking as other 1970's US movies demonstrate: poor quality, low budget, Heston's frequent change of garb was almost laughable, the destruction of Los Angeles once again (and how on earth did Lisa get there from Harlem?)

Of course, this is "reading" the film through the lens of today. I find it hard to recommend a film with poor technical quality, remote story-line and the supremecy of guns to justify the ends.

Summary: Best Last Man
Review: An end of the world movie with an extraordinary twist, the world is still populated. It gives rise to the question of whether or not if you would want to survive it or not. Charlten Heston gives an arresting performance in this action/thriller. A great Sunday afternoon movie. The musical score is also custom made for this movie. This is a movie you will not long forget.

Summary: great....and so is the book
Review: While this movie is thoroughly enjoyable you should check out the short novel it's based on - 'I am Legend' by Richard Matheson. The book is simply a vampire story, without all the bio-warfare stuff in the film. There is also no idea of a family. The main character is literally a man who spends over five years by himself without uttering a word. A fantastic ending too. BUT that does not mean the movie is bad. Between this, Soylent Green, and Planet of the Apes maybe Heston should be known as a great sci-fi actor. Okay maybe not.

Summary: Charlton Heston: The Last Conservative on Earth!
Review: In a sort of goofy version of the culture war, two-fisted Charlton Heston stars as the Last Republican on Earth, clinging stubbornly to his gas-guzzling car and his collection of guns, flame-throwers and grenades. His solitary existence is threatened by freaky albino liberals who outnumber him a hundred to one. Lucky for Heston, they eschew guns and technology (most of the time they just run around in black polyester robes and gnash their teeth). Heston discovers other humans like himself and it looks like there may be a happy ending, but as usual Charlton Heston can't quite dodge that last bullet. The pace of this movie is uneven, alternating between long, talky sections and furious action-movie mayhem. Modern viewers will cringe at Heston's unfortunate decorating choices.

Summary: Heston as the last man of earth is amazing!
Review: I do not know what it is and I cannot put my finger on it, but according to my opinion (and my opinion alone); Charlton Heston must and should (under all circumstances and scenarios possible) be considered to be the best actor ever to have been on the white screen. His dedication, fortitude and resolve as an actor is only matched by a handful of actors, e.g., Kirk Douglass. This movie in question, i.e., The Omega Man VHS ~ Charlton Heston is not an exception. If one is able to overlook the dated technology and the sometimes hokey lines (typical 70's lingo) then what one is able to view is probably one of the best end of the world ever produced. The story line is very believable and at the time, there was a real threat of a Sino-Russian war breaking out. The other actors also do a commendable job and the woman whom plays his love interest does a very convincing job. The music is fun to listen to and it is perhaps a bit dated; however, even when it feels dated, then one realizes that is much better then much of the movie music produced today (when the scores tend to sound like they came out of the same machine and the composer only changed a few tunes here and there). Another reviewer wrote the following "One of the best things about "Omega Man" is its pro-technology, pro-reason message in an era when most of pop culture was wallowing in mindless tribalism." I totally agree with this, since tribalism leads to barbarism and it is nice to see a movie that is pro-reason and pro-technology instead of bashing big business.

Summary: Aside from Star Wars, the best sci-fi movie of the 70's
Review: After suffering through Silent Running, I tried to think of a sci-fi movie made in the 70's that *was* good. This, my friends, is it and it did take me a while.

Charleton Heston was Schwarzenegger before Schwarzenegger came around. He's cool, calculating, and (of course) quick with a gun. Armaggedon hits and he's one of the only survivors of a mysterious plague that wipes out the planet. The plot is goofy, the music cheezy but it's a lot of fun to watch.

Summary: Guilty Pleasure
Review: This film is corny and dated. The acting is silly and very indicative of the decade of its production. That aside, this movie is a guilty pleasure. It is very enjoyable as a survivor like film (not the current tripe known as Survivor the TV series). It shows how one individual who is trying to make the best of their environment also tries to help others. If you are into the disaster genre, a VERY recommended book would be Lucifer's Hammer by Larry Niven, Jerry Pournelle. I don't necessarily like disaster type productions but I do like the individual encounters trials, individual realizes they cannot pout about the trial, individual deals with trial. Fun movie. Guilty pleasure.
