Rating: Summary: Different and action packed Review: This movie was very differnt in that the main character had very few lines. Russell's facial expression and emotion were wonderful! It's not for everyone (especially kids) due to the violence and gore, but it was action packed and interesting. Check it out!
Rating: Summary: An excellent study in wordless communication. Review: This film tackles the dogmatic dehumanization of the military, extrapolated with futuristic technology. Kurt Russel gives a brilliant performance as an automaton struggling toward human awareness. His ability to convey a broad range of emotion and turmoil - without words - makes this film riveting, as his acting enters your awareness at the speed of light, not sound. The range of nuances the viewer can percieve on his visage deepen the impact of the emotional growth he experiences so nakedly before us.Although likely thought of as an action film, I find "Soldier" an uplifting and hopeful study in the desire of one man, stripped emotionally bare as a child, to recover a life that he has never known, yet yearns for.
Rating: Summary: Totally surprising Kurt Russell Role. Review: If you like Sci-Fi you'll love Soldier. Kurt Russell does a great job for a man with few words. Remember the old west? It is now the New West in Space. Look for old Kurt Russell roles. Nice touch. One thing lacking in the story telling though. They needed a better reason to get the new Soldiers on the same planet as Kurt. You just have to assume we are as stupid as they think we are. I still recommend this flick. It is a real eye treat.
Rating: Summary: Plenty of action! Review: I especially like the fact that the gore wasn't rampant. Yes, people died and not in the nicest of ways, but they didn't rely on blood and innards to get the point across. Good movie, Kurt Russell always gets my vote.
Rating: Summary: One of the best movies I've seen since the Star Wars Trilogy Review: I think at one time or another we have all entertained the idea that to be brainwashed was the ultimate rape. Here is a man who, from infancy, has been taught a one dimensional view of what he was, a soldier and nothing more. There were no tomorrow, no hopes, no dreams. To take that man and allow us to watch him become aware of himself and his fellow humans as being more than robots without free thought or will was amazing. I was relieved to see that they did not over-humanize him. A man who had been so mentally abused would never be an easy person to be around. To have him suddenly become all sweet, kind and gentle would have been unbelievable. He was and is still a soldier, but now he's one with tomorrow, hopes, and dreams.
Rating: Summary: sexy and action packed Review: amazingly curt russell hardly said a word through out the movie. Well if you like action movies you'll like this one. ITs a look at how the military and the government would like their military to be. But humane nature eventually comes out.
Rating: Summary: Soldier should end up a classic like Blade Runner Review: What a wonderful Sci Fi movie that watches more like a Western. Sure it is predictable but what is special about this movie is the tremendous photography and the outstanding acting talent of Kurt Russell. I cannot recall any other movie where the leading actor imparted so much emotion just using body language and facial expressions. The DVD includes an extra soundtrack where the movie soundtrack is subdued and the creators of the movie are giving a running commentary about the movie and why things were done certain ways, I found this extra soundtrack fascinating to listen to while watching the movie. Those who like Blade Runner will probably like Soldier.
Rating: Summary: Not a film for everyone, but a great ride.......... Review: I have always liked Kurt Russell's movies, and Soldier is no exception. A lot has been said about the amount of lines he has in the film, but it is an action movie. Actions speak louder than words in this film. That's what makes it cool, and Russell shines in this movie. The DVD is pretty good, the color is great as is the sound. The director's commentary by Paul Anderson is pretty good because his movies are really cool. He also is joined in the commentary by actor Jason Issacs (who played Mekum) and producer Jeremy Bolt. It also has a trailer for the film. Some people over-analyze a film, when you do, you lose track of the fact that it is just a film, and take how bad things are too seriously. Soldier may have gotten bad reviews, but I enjoyed it in the theatres and on my DVD player. I hope you will like this DVD too.
Rating: Summary: This movie adds the 3rd dimension missing from most sci fi. Review: The first 10 minutes of this movie will leave your jaw flapping, wondering where this movie could go next. Kurt Russel (Todd) plays a programmed since birth soldier at the end of his usefulness. New genetic soldiers are to replace the old, selected at birth soldiers, and Kurt ends up in the trash of a space garbage truck to be left on a garbage planet. Refugees on the trash planet take in Kurt, but his inability (or lack of training) to be social get's him kicked out. Soon afterwards, he has to single handedly save the refugees from the new genetic soldiers who have come to the trash planet on a training exercise. Sure, that sounds kinda boring, but this is a review! The real focus is on Kurt trying to fit into a peaceful society despite his monolithic violent past, leaving him confused and dangerous. There's plenty of cheese in this movie, but it's good cheese, and it's even marbled with greatness.
Rating: Summary: Good Action; Simple Plot Review: Well, it ain't no terminator but there is pretty good special effects and good action. Kurt says maybe 50 words throughout the whole movie but he certainly did bulk up for the role. Worth renting.
