Rating: Summary: Awesome movie! Review: The Matrix movies are one of my favorites. This movie is rather confusing, but if your over the age of 12 or so, you should be able to get it. "I know Kung Fu..."
Rating: Summary: A milestone in my life Review: The Matrix not only serves up fresh subject matter, its plot twists will keep you guessing. The special effects are overwhelming. Every actor turns in a believable performance in an unbelievable futuristic story. The addition of good old fashioned action only proves to keep this film edgy. Welcome Keanu Reeves back to the world of action. This movie also marks a significant point in my personal life and will always be special for that reason also.
Rating: Summary: Not too good Review: The Matrix offers alot of special effects with would please our audience. However, a drawback is that the action is terrible it is totally like chinese movies one guy could actually shoot everyone by himself and he is totally open to gun attacks. I mean I know this is only a movie but even the cast themselves admited that they mimic chinese movies. This is totally only for sci-fi fans. I knew alot of my friends did not like this and so did alot of children.
Rating: Summary: Downright incredible Review: The Matrix on DVD is positively the best use of technology ever. With the incredible 'bullet-time' cinematic sequences, you'll find yourself repeating scenes over and over and over. The plot is so thick, so well-thought-through (if that makes sense) it is probably the best science fiction story ever written. The DVD picture is so clear, so much better then on VHS and the sound makes you feel like you are there. This is a MUST buy, you'll watch it again and again, but find that you don't tire of it.
Rating: Summary: Excellent for Viewing on a Home PC Review: The Matrix on DVD is the only way to experience the full excitement of this creative movie. Moreover if you own a PC, and have a DVD player in it, it's all the more enjoyable to watch.
Rating: Summary: The Matrix Has You Review: The Matrix on DVD. It just seems like the one was invented for the other. Go up to any stranger shopping for DVD's, and say, "I have the Matrix on DVD," the answer will always be, "Who doesn't have the Matrix on DVD?" If you haven't seen this film, don't bother renting it, just buy it. It's definately the best science fiction film of the nineties, and perhaps one of the top of all time - but time herself will have to wait for that judgement. Not since Bladerunner has a film so beautifully combined special effects and a well-developed, thought-provoking story into a single film. This leads me to a popular misconception about the Matrix. The Matrix does have eye-candy, but every ounce of it is motivated by story. At no point is a shot wasted. This is not ID4, where the story could fit on the side of a cereal box, this is real cinema. Prepare to think and be surprised. Prepare yourself for some terrific acting (okay, not Keanu - but he's alright in this one - promise). Most of all, prepare yourself for a script so tight, there is not a single moment to get away. This movie truly grabs hold and never lets go.
Rating: Summary: ". . . people remember what they last saw the most." Review: The Matrix Originality of Concept: 8 Attempt at Presentation: 10 Presentation of Concept: 8 Final Score: 9 *When I saw the commercial for The Matrix for the very first time, though I was intrigued by the special effects; and wanted to see the movie because of them; I felt that the plot would probably be dry and unentertaining. After the movie came out, multiple people made claims that it was "one of the best movies ever made." While I enjoyed the way that this movie was done, I can not come close to agreeing with the aforementioned statement. *The main question that is to be answered in this movie is "What is the Matrix?" The makers of the movie decide to place you, the viewer, in the shoes of the protagonist, Neo, by going through a gradual exposition. This is where my main problem with the movie lies. The word "gradual" should be emphasized because the entire first half of the movie, about an hour, is spent explaining what the Matrix is. While trying to figure out and relate with this enigma is the fun of the movie, some will find that they must force themselves to think rather than the movie making them want to think. Within this first hour I can only recall a couple of action-entertaining sequences. Other sequences could be classified as dialogue-entertaining. The dialogue in this movie is very intricate and delicious in deed, but action immediately followed by this intriguing dialogue can seem bland in instant comparison. As a function of my taste, much of this dialogue unfortunately is not accompanied by any music. If it's a thinking movie, give me some of that eerie music telling me that it is. In my opinion, music makes a movie. *While the explanation of the Matrix is given in layers, as I said before, it is done too gradually. A good ways before Neo's training was complete, I completely understood what was going on. The exposition soon became redundant because it portrays a concept that I have seen, heard and thought of before. I found myself saying, "It took you one hour to explain that!" Also, though the conflict was briefly established near the beginning of the movie, Neo's training takes so long that you can easily forget what he's learning all of this stuff for. You may be tempted to ask yourself, "What is the conflict again?" Conflict is the driving force of any plot and should be clear throughout. Being unclear about "What the Matrix is" was the idea behind the movie, but being unclear about the conflict shouldn't be purposely done in any movie. *From the way that I've been babbling ferociously at this movie, one would get the impression that I didn't like it, but that is incorrect. The action sequences are very, very entertaining. The special effects are absolutely, awe-inspiring. The fighting sequences represent some of the best choreography that I have seen in a long time. It's too bad that these best parts of the movie are only dedicated to the entire second half. The special effects is mainly what everyone wanted to see. This is what the advertising portrayed the most. Some will find themselves disappointed and my even be tempted to walk out before it's over. *Fortunately, because most of the best scenes take place in the entire second half of the film, we are left with a feeling of exuberence. The makers were clearly aware that people remember what they last saw the most. A person's judgement of a movie can be highly based on how it ended. This film was rife with sweet eye candy that defies the physical laws of what we naturally see on Earth and because we have sat through the first half of the movie, we are able to explain and understand why these defiances occur. *As I said before, some people who go to see this film may be tempted to walk out early. They came to see a movie full of action and special effects. When the first hour of the movie contains only 5-10 minutes worth of action, you can't expect the entire audience to remain dedicated. You have to go into this movie in the mood to listen to every word and to think about what's going on. Being entertained by the action will come automatically. It's no mystery that this movie is not made for eveyone. A film that deserves the title of "one of the best movies ever made" would be made for <mostly> everyone. It is clear that the element of confusion was purposely incorporated into the plot. If you're into sci-fi, action and are ready to think, then this movie is a must see. Had the exposition been either shorter or more entertaining (more ambient music could've possibly done the trick), The Matrix would've been close to perfection. Because of these flaws that I have discussed, I am forced to take its score down a whole mark by giving it a 9 out of 10.
