Rating: Summary: would have been spectacular with some attention to detail. Review: quick question. what do you call a group of people who believe there way is better and then go around killing people indiscriminently to prove it...........if you said terrorist you would be correct. That was one of the many flaws in this movie that kept me from really getting into it. after all morpheus admits "we don't know what happened we can only assume humans blocked out the sun to kill the computers" (yet what if the sun was fading so in order to survive humans put themselves into this reality?)it beats eating slop from a tube and having no sun. without a real antagonist for this story NEO and his crew are just terrorist. But no big it is only a movie. as far as the subject matter it was presented in a flashier way but the story is not entirely unique if you have seen "THEY LIVE,TOTAL RECALL,ABRE LOS OJOS or several episodes of the "outer limits" and so on you have seen this idea before. Don't get me wrong i enjoyed this movie somewhat...ironically it was all the various flaws in the logic of this movie that caused me to analyze it... thus enjoy it. it is mainly the lack of attention to detail that i can't give this five stars i kept saying to my self "this would be really good if only..." so in closing i give this movie a generous 3 stars because i did enjoy it even though i thought it only deserved two stars
Rating: Summary: It's an awsome movie with a great plot & great special FX Review: Quickly go & see this movie, even if you don't see it first, you should buy it. It is a great movie, you will like it even if your not a sci-fi movie person.
Rating: Summary: What is the Matrix? Review: Quite simply one of the best films ever made.First, there is the surface of the film. The story follows the classic hero's journey as described by the mythologist Joseph Campbell. Neo goes from his mundane every-day world, answers the call to adventure, meets his mentor and friends, receives his training, and eventually goes on to become a true hero. For those unfarmiliar with Campbell's work, this is a story parallelling Luke's journey in the original Star Wars. As is typical for a mythological story, the characters are mostly archetypes. Neo (played by Keanu Reeves) is the would-be hero, Morpheus (Laurence Fishburne) is Neo's mentor, and Agent Smith (Hugo Weaving) is the shadow/villain. The acting and character development are as sound as they are for any film of this type. And specifically, Smith's character/performance in this film is often put on par or close with that of Darth Vader in the original Star Wars. Beyond that lays the visuals of this film. And what stunning visuals they are! Everything from what the characters wear to the scene transitions have a noticible level of meticulousness about them. The special effects are often touted, which they were revolutionary, and earned the Matrix the SFX Oscar. But beyond that, the Matrix just screams "style". Accompanying that is the sound. Which rightfully received the Oscar for best sound effects editing and best sound. Both of which really help to bring you into the world of the Matrix, and have a unique style of their own. Last of the surface elements are the sci-fi concepts. Which perhaps makes the Matrix unaccessible to some people. Among them includes robots, virtual reality, artificial intelligence, fusion, and the state of the future. To that all I can say is that this is a film, and not a book. And so it's not really an exploration of science-fiction. If you can just run with what the sci-fi that is given, I think you'll find this is an uncommonly good film. Second and more importantly, are the deeper elements. The original Matrix is an exploration into the nature of reality. And perticularly in the third act when Neo re-enters the matrix, the film takes on the form of a buddhist parable... with each scene further unwrapping the onion. For those who can see the matrix for its symbolic level outside of the story, I believe this film can be as rewarding as a film can get. Third and last is the DVD itself. The "Widescreen Review" sort of says it all. 5 out of 5 for picture quality and 5 out of 5 for sound quality. That alone should guarantee this DVD as an essential element in any collection. Add to that a commentary track and a feature exploring the special effects techniques... and you have one disc well worth it.

Rating: Summary: The new "Total Recall" Review: Real vs. imagination pulls me in every time and this film does an excellent job of presenting it. The special effects are fabulous and the music is excellent. I recommend it to everyone. It was the first DVD that I bought for my new player. This one makes you think and has application to all facets of life.
Rating: Summary: great exploration of a "what-if" on human existence Review: really makes you think about those moments in a dream when you KNOW it's a dream, but don't really feel a need to wake up ... and then are ticked off that you did.
Rating: Summary: In an age of stunning special effects this one takes it home Review: Recent Hollywood movies specifically Sci-Fi have lots of special effects combined with a plot that is often too futuristic to be believed. The nice thing about the Matrix is that the plot is not so far off the beaten path to be unreasonable. Combined with some of the best action sequences around meshed with the best special effects around make this a new benchmark in the Sci-Fi-Action genre. As far as the matrix making fun of so-called samurai-movies...
Rating: Summary: great can't see it just once. need to own it. Review: Rented it, then I bought it. It is a really great concept
Rating: Summary: The Matrix Review: REVIER'S NOTE: My son wrote the following review and this was done before Amazon had a kid's review form. Bear in mind this review was written by a 12 year old in a good mood: All I have to say is.. this movie rocks.. No, not the special effects (But they rock too..) It's the philosiphy of the movie. People either get this movie, or dont get it. I get it so much that sometimes I think the world really IS the matrix. Anyway, the way the story goes is that there's a hacker named Neo who starts to get messages on his computer telling him wierd stuff, which causes him to go to a club and He sees a lady hacker (known as Trinity) who tells him some stuff and about another hacker named Morpheus. Anyway, Neo asks Morpheus his life long question, "What is the Matrix?" He then learns about the Matrix being a fake world where everone is a slave. The bad guys in the Matrix are AI's disguised as, get this, Feds! Hehehehehehehe... If this movie was rated on a scale of 0 to 10, it would hit a 72..I love this movie...but..where we go from there, is a choice I leave to you...
Rating: Summary: Inexplicable, chaotic, edgy, pulls you in and freaks you out Review: Saw it on the big screen and have ordered the dvd. It is a mind-blowing thrill ride into a world that is not so far-fetched from reality given the technologies today and in the near future. It exudes intelligence, doesn't tease or ridicule and allows you to get away from life as you know it for a couple of hours. Special effects are the best I have ever seen. A well put together cast and story. A must see for any adult..."gamers" will walk away twitching and have bad dreams for a month! Incredible camera work and the feel of the sets are so real, dark and mysterious. Big brother of the future meets billy bad-*** hacker! See who wins!
