Summary: The Chronicles of Riddick (Unrated Widescreen Edition)
Review: Riddick, now a hunted man, finds himself in the middle of two opposing forces in a major crusade. Colm Feore plays Lord Marshal, a warrior priest who is the leader of a sect that is waging the tenth and perhaps final crusade 500 years in the future. Judi Dench is Aereon, an ambassador from the Elemental race. She is an ethereal being who helps Riddick unearth his origins.

Review: Seeing Pitch black helps but is not needed, this is a stand alone film. I also suggest seeing the animated film Dark Fury if you want some more backstory.
I loved the movie. I found the plot very easy to understand. You MUST see this film in the unrated directors cut, it is MUCH better then the theatrical version and the plot is much clearer.
The plot, action, acting and above all costumes are all top notch. My only complaint is that I wanted there to be more space battles. If you haven't seen it you should do so and if you only saw the theatrical edition at the movies, then do yourself a favor and get the directors cut and see it how it was meant to be seen.

Summary: Not Bad, but not Great either!
Review: The Chronicles of Riddick, brings back to the screen the story of the Furian fugitive as he tries to avoid bounty hunters while at the same time trying to prevent a new enemy, the Necromongers, from taking over the Underverse. It is an action-packed adventure with significant improvements compared to the prequel, Pitch Black:
1) Vin Diezel talks much more in this movie; he has way more lines.
2) There are better special effects, and
3) Overall, it's a better plot.

Nevertheless:
1) There are still multiple gaps in the plot; though Dark Fury- The Chronicles of Riddick is the missing link between the two movies, there is very little information given about the Elementals and the mysterious religion of the Necromongers, thus leaving the audience in the dark.
2) Riddick, surprisingly, gets his butt kicked left and right in Pitch Black by the "jock" bounty hunter, but in Chronicles there is this transformation that takes place and he becomes next to invincible.
3) Another setback is in relation to the acting (or lack of it), which is just average, and at times below average.

In conclusion, the film will provide an evening's entertainment, though it's no masterpiece...

Summary: Sci Fi Action Yarn takes itself too seriously 3.5 Stars
Review: Vin Diesel returns to the big screen in the Chronicles of Riddick playing the title role, and reprising his character from the lesser known, but more polished Pitch Black (2000). Now more of a household name Mr Diesel has a wider audience, and much larger budget, which should have meant more, but fails to deliver on several levels. The set designs and CGI are impressive, and a familiar but somewhat inventive story pits our hero against a band of marauding futuristic Nazi's called Necromongers who travel from World to World and either convert or annihilate it's inhabitants. Some fill work explains the connection between the two movies, and we learn that apart from being a resourceful (and indestructible at times) criminal, our hero is also a "Furion", part of a thought exinct race, who are the only ones capable of defeating the villians (according to prophecy). Another subplot explains that the young girl saved in the last movie is now also incarcerated on an offworld penal colony and needs to be saved, and of course Riddick is pursued throughout the movie by bounty hunting mercenaries trying to cash in on the reward on his head. All this handled better would have made for a great movie, but the action bounces around in a muddled fashion, and makes the whole experience protracted and leaves the viewer a little weary. This is NOT a bad movie, by any means and will appeal to fans of this sort of action flick, but throughout it is more than a little inconsistent. The script constantly calls for Diesel to remain ice cool, and have plenty of smart quips, and 007 style remarks throughout the 2 hour running time, whilst trying to purvey a sense of desperation and destruction which doesn't tie up. If you enjoy spectacular Dune style depictions, and lavish special effects, this is the picture for you, just don't take it too seriously, as the director seems to have unfortunately done.

Summary: See this movie!!!!!
Review: Went and saw this one last night. Have to admit, I was expecting something decent and somewhat entertaining. It was alot better than I expected. Edge of your seat action throughout the entire movie. I know that the critics were not too kind to this movie, but don't listen to them (When was the last time that you have heard of a critic that was in tune with the movie going public?). I am a science fiction movie fan, and this one delivered. I remember being so excited for the new star wars movies, and besides special effects, they never really lived up to my expectations. THIS movie is what the new star wars should have been. It was epic in it's scope, the story was fantastic and original, the special effects were incredible, and the acting was well done. I am not the biggest Vin Diesel fan, but his portrayal of the Riddick character has me completely captivated. I liked him in the Pitch Black "prequal" to this, and frankly, he made that movie. Now, to have this completely delving in to his character, was a fun ride for two hours. Even if you are marginally interested in sci-fi and action flicks, you should go see this. My wife even liked it, and she hates "ultra male" movies and really doesn't like sci-fi. Well worth your money to see this one!

Summary: Not PITCH BLACK, but a decent movie all it's own.
Review: While this is supposed to be a sequel to PITCH BLACK, it really doesn't have that feel to it. I liked this movie, not as well as PITCH BLACK (which may someday hit "classic" status), but as a movie in it's own right. The sets and special effects were extremely effective and well done.

I loved Diesel in PITCH BLACK. Then xXx came along and I was very disappointed in the movie and his performance. Same for A MAN APART. It seemed for a bit that unless he was a supporting actor (KNOCKAROUND GUYS, BOILER ROOM, SAVING PRIVATE RYAN) the movies weren't really good. Maybe it was just bad choices on his part, or producers rushing to cash in on what they saw in PITCH BLACK. I don't know.

At least with CHRONICLES you get an idea of what Diesel can do when given the opportunity and a decent script. The storyline was good, Judy Dench was great (as usual), and Diesel was perfect. I wish they'd used the original girl instead of bringing in someone so pretty. I liked the original. She'd have been just fine.

Like STAR WARS you get a better image of this movie on the big screen. Still, it's worth owning, worth seeing, worth writing a review about.
