Summary: Finest WWII "What If?" movie ever ....
Review: Douglas, Sheen and the crew members of the US Navy carrier NIMITZ experiance a weather annomilly, and find themselves near Hawaii on DEC 6 1941! Forced to deal with Japanese fighters and a US Senator, the captain (Douglas) sends his own pilots to assist Pear Harbor on DEC7th, not to change history, but in an attempt to save his crew and ship. Douglas, once again shows his ability as a strong dramatic actor by interacting completely with actual crew members of the USS Nimitz. Sheen, appears as a civilian analist, who finds himself caught between his own priorities, and the welfare of men he does not know. One of Sheen's finest roles of his early career. Movies that should be seen with this one include "TORA! TORA! TORA!", "MIDWAY".

Review: I saw this movie when I worked at a movie theatre back in 1980 and I loved it.After the movie ended I kept thinking wow if it was only possible to go back in time and change that particular day. I've been waiting for a long time for this to come to dvd and I very happy it is.

Review: I was able to make an advance purchase of this movie directly
from PFE, and while I enjoy finally having it on DVD, I unfortunately cannot give it a good review. Although PFE says to have received great reviews from other customers,the video is washed-out and muddy, and is offered only in wide-
screen format(and not enhanced for 16:9 televisions)
The sound is only marginally better and is not in 5.1 surround (which is to be expected since it wasn't filmed in 5.1)
It appears to be a transfer from another video source, not from the original film. There are no extras such as liner notes, interviews, etc.
All in all, its just a bare-bones offering. "It ain't much, but its all we got!"

Summary: Terrible quality
Review: After months and months of ridiculous delays, we finally received Pacific Family Entertainment's horrible transfer of Final Destination. This company charged our credit card almost six months before finally shipping the DVD, which looks worse than VHS and has no chapter tracks for easy skipping around. There are no special features, and I couldn't find any options for different languages or subtitles. Considering how long it took for Pacific Family Entertainment (who is distributed by Triumph Marketing) to create the first sub-par DVD, you can bet that this one isn't any different. You're taking a big risk buying this until a mainstream reviewer gets their hands on a copy and refutes that this edition is the same as before.

Summary: Sorry - don't get your hopes up
Review: This is most likely a national distribution of the terrible DVD transfer Pacific Family Entertainment released last year after many months of delays, problems, and excuses. The final product has NO chapters, has a VHS-quality video transfer, and presents the movie in 2-channel stereo. I wouldn't purchase this DVD unless Amazon indicates that it is a brand new digital transfer with Dolby 5.1 mastering. Simply re-releasing the same shoddy product that resulted in so many complaints and returns before does not make it any better! Considering how long the initial release was delayed (and the awful result), I doubt that PFE could re-remaster this DVD in such a short time as they've had since the initial exclusive release last year. Let the buyer beware!

Summary: Pacific Family's Final Countdown Mediocre At Best
Review: The 2002 DVD release of The Final Countdown is Mediocre at best. Although, the 1980 feature originally released on VHS by Vestron Video, has been produced(now by Pacific) on DVD with a widescreen print, the image seems to be distorted somehow and lacks sharpness and appears desaturated. The sound is adequate. Although, the disc's jacket boasts of chapter search capability - "scene selection", there are NO chapter stops recorded on this print. The cover artwork is amateurish and shines of a low-budget release of a seldom-heard-of science fiction film. The release was only available directly through Pacific or Ebay(to my knowledge) for those who did not wish to leave a message on Pacific's automated system. It will be interesting to see how the 2003 release has improved this underrated film.

Review: At least I think it is, based on the outstanding reviews it has recieved on this page from the studio's execs. I'm sure to buy this one, if my mom will let me. She may not though, because she works for Paramount, an outstanding studio bringing only the best films in the best quality at the best price.

Summary: Clear The Flightdeck!
Review: Take the action of "Top Gun," mix in your favorite sci-fi flick, add a dose of U-S combat history, and you've got "The Final Countdown." I first watched a rented VHS version over 20 years ago. It still ranks among my all-time favorites. I've practically worn the oxide off the VHS copy I now own and can't wait for the DVD. The plot centers around the theory of time travel. If you can recall some of the time travel challenges faced by Bill Shatner and crew aboard the USS Enterprise, you're sure to appreciate what's in store for Kirk Douglas and his crew aboard the aircraft carrier USS Nimitz. The action is as real as it gets. The filming aboard the carrier and aerial photography is superb. (My favorite: An aerial encounter involving a single engine prop plane and a fighter jet.) Stong performances from Kirk Douglas and Martin Sheen.
