Review: Robocop is okay. But I don't really like it much. The setting is in Detroit. It's about a cop who is killed and then is turned into a robocop. He's then sent out to stop the bad guys while also getting revenge on those who killed him. I didn't like it but see it if you want. You might like it.

Review: In, 1987 there were many cop movies to come onto the big screen for one Leathal Weapon.But director Paul Verhoven's cop
futuristic thriller Robocop struck us the most as a powerful,
blend of comedy and brutal violence sears on the screen like
nothing before it.Not even The Terminator can match Robocop's
excessive use of graphic voilence and the rated R version was
greatly downgraded to prevent an X rating.Robocop has one of
the worst death scenes in hollywood history,Murphy's death is

brillant as it is intense and graphic but in the chriterion
version it's longer and more excessive and much more powerful.

Robocop is about newly transfered Detroit Police Officer
Murphy and a politacally influenced company Omni Consumer
products and the Detriot Police that have lost many of there
own and have threatend to strike.When OCP launches there new
product ED- 209 tragically fails with a horrific malfunction
and the death of an board member Vice President Dick Jones is
furious and the company takes a look at another program that
may be successful.When Murphy is called into duty he persues
Clarence Bonnager and his hinchmen , Murphy get's trapped in
instant his life is brutally and tragically ended giving OCP
the perfect candidate for the Robocop program a Cyborg cop ,
trained to serve and protect and uphold the law at all costs
the cop's in the Detroit Police department don't know what to think.But what OCP didn't plan on was that Murphy would still
have his memories.

This version has the Xrated version and many other options
a classic cop movie for the 80's.

Summary: A sci-fi masterpiece!!
Review: This is one of the best Sci-fi films ever made, in its full uncut form. Ok so it may be a little more graphic, but that's how the director originally wanted it to be, and to me it does make the film more enjoyable, under-lining the importance of those extended scenes. The quality of this edition is rather good, with image quality really high, although only releasing it in Dolby Surround seems a bit of a waste (but you can still get very good sound reproduction when played though a good DD amp). All in all a film that any Sci-fi fan will love, and if you havn't seen it yet, it's definately worth grabbing!!!!

Summary: HIGH VOLTAGE SATIRICAL CARNAGE!
Review: Despite its simplistic and quite-laughable title, Robocop is a wonderful piece of satirical science-fiction. In the Criterion edition, the amount of "excessively violent" added footage amounts to less than a couple of minutes but helps to make the story whole. This violence isn't there just for kicks; it actually fits the overall context of the particular scenes and further defines the story. Despite the MPAA's decision to give the added scenes a rating of "X" (remember, this was in 1987, well before the NC-17 rating existed), I can honestly say that I've seen worse violence in other R-rated films. In any case, the movie is now restored to its entirety and one aspect of Murphy's execution scene suddenly makes a lot more sense. The Criterion edition includes many extras, only a few of which are excellent. Most, however, are for ardent movie fans only. The audio commentary by director Verhoeven, executive producer Jon Davison, and co-writer Neumeier is very interesting but uneven: some passages are quite enlightening while others are awfully banal. The film-to-storyboard comparison is mildly interesting, for once you've seen it, it's enough. The two storyboards showing unfilmed scenes are rather unremarkable novelties, although the cemetary scene would have been a great touch to add in the movie. The illustrated essay on the making of the movie is very lengthy and sometimes overly detailed. The amount of time devoted to the design/production/animation of the ED 209 robot is excessive and goes on ad nauseam. An index feature within this essay would have been helpful because if you exit at any time before reaching the end, you must start all over again. The two trailers are surprising in that they somehow made the movie look like a low-budget snorefest. Fortunately for us, it's exactly the opposite. I would have given 5 stars for the restored movie alone, but some of the Criterion extras being what they are, I subtracted one star. Still worth getting, however.

Summary: Not much of a collection
Review: I bought the Criterion Collection version of Robocop because I loved the movie and thought the expanded scenes might add something to the movie. I was wrong. I would give the movie itself five stars but the four stars goes to this Criterion Collection DVD. The sound and picture quality are very good but the supposedly added footage is all violence, and only a few frames of it at that. Not that I was looking for extended scenes of blood and gore but Paul Verhoven did such a great job of bringing out the human aspect of Robocop, that I thought there would be more scenes relating to his family or his relationship with his partner. Alas, I was disappointed. And the extra features are almost non-existent as well. I have the Criterion collection of Armageddon and it has two disks and over three hours of extra stuff. If you like this movie, you're better off just getting the standard version, the CC is not worth the extra money.

Summary: Give it a chance
Review: I saw this movie when I was probably a little too young to understand half of the things in it. But, after subsequent viewings I can easily say that it is a fine piece of movie making. While at times the acting can seem a little coarse, the story drives the entire film. The movie automatically gets a bad rap for how violent it is, and probabally why it is kind of shrouded away from the spotlight. But I know that if you aren't squeamish, you will enjoy the plot and characters very much.

Summary: Not worth the price of admission.
Review: I think the whole Criterion collection is a bunch of [junk]. The Robocop DVD really isn't that good. This whole X-rating thing is a joke. The only excessively violent scene that I noticed was ed-209 going a bit over board in killing the executive at OCP. Other than that, picture isn't great, the sound is only in stereo, not 5.1 or DTS, which is now the standard. Trust me, they'll re-release this again in a couple of years with added features, and then they'll do a re-release of that. The question is, Will there ever really be a definitive version of a film on DVD?

Summary: Robocop vs. American fascism.
Review: one of the best blockbusters from the 1980's , robocop was a refreshing sendup of all the ridiculous reaganism (say no to drugs etc.etc.)that this country was embroiled in. This film is a credit to the sheer prowess of verhoven, judging by how the script presumably looked before production.
