Review: I have been a fan of this film ever since i was seven years old(I am eighteen now)and i have never grow tired of it. The thing that made it apeal to mostly boys of yonug and old is that it presented a comic book future in a grity reality with realistic characters. Unlike the follow ups which were high camp hatchet jobs desined to make orion rich.

Review: Criterion has stopped making this title. If you have any interest in getting it (and you should, it's a quality disc), I'd get it now before the auction fiends are demanding $200 bucks for a used copy.

Summary: a very gruesome movie!
Review: when i first saw this movie back in 1994, i did not seem to care about violent content in movies. But that was 6-7 years ago, and I haven't seen the movie since. i just rented the regular movie edition (R-rated not X-rated Director's Cut) on dvd, and I had seen the x-rated director's cut and thought it ruined such a great movie. But then I saw the R-rated version and saw still how much graphic and gruesome violence there was in this movie. I will never look at Robocop the same way. I will never buy this on DVD or VHS again. If u have a weak stomach that gets sick after watching body parts fly in the air and see a man get brutally murdered, then stay away from this gorefest. WORSE THAN THE SCREAM TRILOGY! If you want to see Robocop just rent the 3rd movie which is PG-13 and has less violence in it. Take my word for it.

Summary: Dolby Stereo???
Review: I love the Criterion Collection and own about 3/4 of them and this movie is no exception to the Criterion rule. Some great features like WIDESCREEN, commentary (very interesting), making of (written - no featurette), but mixed in... STEREO??? One of the great things about DVD (especially sci-fi DVD) is amazing sound, which this completely lacks. I personally was disappointed in that. But once I got over my sound issues I LOVED the explict unrated, ultra-violent version of this film. Speaking of which, this first scene with ED-209 killing what's-his-name is AWESOME!! So wonderfully violent! A great addition to Criterion.

Summary: "Dick, I'm Very Disappointed"
Review: An avid fan of Robocop, I was really excited when I finally found and bought the Criterion Collection of this classic sci-fi film. Unfortunately, upon watching it, I was very disappointed. The main reason I was disappointed was that the extra footage that was cut from the theatrical release brings their respective scenes down rather than enhance them. My main concern was for the editorial flow of the scenes, which was hampered by the added shots of violence. Unlike the director's cut of Natural Born Killers, for example, these added shots of strong violence seem to have just been thrown back into scenes that already worked very well on their own. There was apparently no sound re-editing, because the scenes feel VERY rough in terms of audio, and you can even hear where certain sounds are looped in order to fill the newfound soundtrack gaps in the extended scenes. The print quality of the new shots doesn't match the original cut shots as well, and in terms of the editorial flow of the scenes, the new material just drags them down more than anything else. On top of these things, the new footage really doesn't add much to the story at all. The meaning the filmmakers were intending to create (which is expressed in the commentary section of the DVD) with the ultra-violence was already apparent to me with the theatrical version. This DVD would be great if both versions of the film were included. I'm going to sell this one and get the theatrical release version.

Review: After i bought this DVD the other day, i was outstanded and amazed by all the quality features and bonuses. yet it remains a brilliant classic.

Summary: Great Film, Not Too Great DVD
Review: I love the film, ever since I was 11 years old I have loved it! I assumed that the Criterion edition would have it all. But really all it has is a "Director's Cut" of the film, the transfer and the sound isn't that great. First off, the soundtrack is in 2.0, not 5.1 and the transfer of the video is kinda shabby and I don't think it's anamorphic either. But, the other DVD version of the film is the same except that it isn't the "Director's Cut", so for now the Criterion is the best you can get, it just isn't that great!

Review: A Ultra-violent Science-Fiction Action thriller from Paul Verhoeven ( Total Recall, Basic Instict) about a lone Cop named Murphy ( Peter Weller) who gets dismembered by a gang, comes back as a Cyborg named " Robocop" who has a taste for revenge and justice. The Director's Cut is fabulous and amazing, it's even perfect and flawless in my opinion with the storyboards, uncut scenes and everything that a Robofan would love. It's got Gore, Violence and Humor galore, a must see! recommendations for this movie: Blade Runner, The Matrix, Total Recall, Evil Dead, Starship Troopers, Heavy Metal, The Fifth Element, Day of the Dead, Dawn of the Dead, Akira, Scanners and Ghost in the Shell.

Review: ROBOCOP is a funny, ultra-violent, action, science-fiction film that takes place in the near future and the setting is the city of Detroit. A police officer named Murphy is killed by a vicious gang of drug dealers, but a technology corporation manages to bring him back to life by turning what's left of his body into an unstoppable cyborg that will become the future of law enforcement = ROBOCOP. The Unrated Director's Cut is the only way to see this film: it shows scenes that were cut from the theatrical release in order to avoid an 'X' rating, it has an interesting commentary track from the film's director - writers - and producers, it has two theatrical trailers, storyboards from the film, and a written essay on the making of the film.

Summary: A True classic
Review: Saw it in theatre twice. Watch in on LD countless times and now watching the DVD. The standard issue DVD is OK but the sound can't even match the old Image Entertainment LD. What a shame. If you can, get the Critterion collection DVD instead with lots of extras. This standard DVD is currently out of print and since most Orion titles have been reissued by MGM, I bet this one and its 2 sequels will appear soon on DVD. But judging from the recent DVD releases from MGM of older titles (Escape from NY, Platoon), I really doubt anything special will accompany the releases. But anyway this is such a great movie, any DVD format you can get, get it now. Well worth it, you can watch it over and over again.
