Summary: THE BEST MOVIE EVER. EVER. EVER. EVER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Review: I've seen this film at least twenty times, the first time being when I was a kidling. Now that I'm old and dusty I laugh even harder. Mel Brooks has ripped John Candy, Rick Moranis, Bill Pullman, and himself out of the realm of mediocre comedy (that means all other films ever ever ever!) to make something that transcends humor. More than just "slapstick parody" (ahem).

Summary: Could do better
Review: I don't like this film. There. I've said it. Come and beat me up. Tell me I'm a moron, I don't care. Y'see, I do have a sense of humour, it's just different to yours.

Spaceballs is all the slapstick parody jokes humanely possible rolled into one film. It is funny (on occasion), it's just you could do this as a series of sketches on a comedy show rather than as a film.

I'll give you a couple of examples from England. French and Saunders. Silence of the Lambs done as a parody of their own careers (very bizarre). 15 minutes top, split into 5 minute chunks. Absolutely hilarious.

Adam & Joe (obscure comedy show). Seven done with dolls and cuddly tolls. The head in the box scene has to be seen to be believed. 10 minutes top, absolutely hilarious.

Now we come to Spaceballs. Stretched to it's limits in terms of time, the jokes fall down more often than not, and although there are some truly funny scenes, I wanted it to be a 20 minute film, not over an hour.

Buy this if you love the humour. I'm sure you will anyway. But PLEASE watch it before buying. I'd hate to see yet another copy at the car boot sales.

Summary: Possibly the funniest movie of all time.
Review: This movie is as funny as such comic classics as Monty Python: Search for the Holy Grail. Anybody who read the review further up the page saying that Mel Brooks's isn't a "complete filmmaker", IGNORE IT! From lines such as "You have the ring, and I see your schwartz is as big as mine", to "Very impressive Lone Star. Too bad this isn't the wide world of sports," this movie is one big laugh. Be patient enough to sit through the opening scene, a mockery of the chase scene at the beginning of "Star Wars". It's worth it.
