Summary: The Sci-Fi must see of the year
Review: Athough i haven't yet bought the DVD for Pitch Black, I did see it in the theaters which is where it belongs. In my opinion the movie was a great sci-fi thriller with an outstanding cast of relative unknowns. I always admire a filmaker's ability to cast actors who aren't widley known, which really makes the viewer focus on the strenghts of the story and effects instead of being wowed by the star-power. Vin Diesel played the perfect anti-hero and i hope to see him in alot more movies. He played the part with such precision, adding his own physical appearance to the aura of a mass-murderer. The story, while very entrtaining, did have a couple of weak points, not to mention was pretty predictable. From the opening monologue of diesel's character, you knew right away that he would end up saving their lives somehow. The irony of your greatest fear being your only hope was just plain as day. Weak points aside, it was a very entertaining movie and plane to get the unrated DVD to see the extra footage!

Summary: This movie had no substance
Review: sure it was a complete rip off of alien. sure it had no real storyline original to itself. I mean come on they were stranded on a planet with these creatures that looked like BATS! Alien Scared me. this movie made me toss and turn in my seat FROM BOREDOM. this was one of the worst movies of 2000. if you want a better version of this movie i must suggest Ridley Scott's Alien or James Cameron's Aliens. these movies are far superior and scarier. Pitch Black leaves you at the end like you are in complete darkness because their plot and substance goes nowhere. Special effects are just like every other movie. good but no substance. ...

Summary: Hungry, bored, plain stupid? Make your own Pitch Black!
Review: Hungry, bored, plain stupid? Make your own Pitch Black!

Ingredients: 1 blanket, 1 flashlight, 1 pair of swimming goggles, 1 disgusting plastic cockroach that shines in the darkand 1 large popcorn and a coke.

The making process: Get under blanket, pretend that you're 5 and you're hiding from aliens.

Turn on the flashlight and put on the goggles. Spend 1 hour and 58 minutes of boring quality time with yourself. Eat the popcorn and take a zip from the coke. After precisely 1 hour and 59 minutes turn off the flashlight. Wave the cockroach in the air and make scary noises. Take the goggles off, finish the coke and go home you sick pervert!

Now, if you didn't understand any of the above it means that you belong to the large group of people which have a life and were fortunate enough to miss this abomination called: Pitch Black.

Two major rights were violated during the making of this movie: first the basic human rights of the viewers who had to put up with two hours of this crap, and various Copy Rights.

The idea of Pitch Black is an obvious rip off from 2 sources: 1. The stranded spaceship, the crew who finds a deserted colony on the planet, the presence of dangerous people on the crew and the endless wondering whether they are trust worthy or not - all this bear a close resemblance to the 'Alien' series. 2. The idea of a destruction which comes on a planet in cycles of a few years , every time an eclipse take place is a shameless rip off from Isaac Asimov's famous book 'Nightfall'.

In spite of all the great stolen ideas in it Pitch Black is still a bad movie. There is no backbone to the story. They just crash on the planet and immediately they begin their rescue. Not much dialogs either, you could probably watch the movie in mute and still understand a great deal.

The main idea of confusing between light and darkness and between good and and evil is emphasized in the sudden change of roles between the 'law enforcing' man and the dangerous murderer. Yet instead of adding depth to the movie it lacks reliability and ends up adding nothing more than the element of surprise to the movie.

Of course one could claim that since this is a horror movie that is exactly what the writers wanted to achieve. But it's very clear when you watch the movie that Pitch Black was intended to be a cross between Science Fiction and a thriller. And for some unknown reasons it turned out to be a horror movie, and a horror movie it is indeed.

Oh, you think this is harsh go see the movie.

Summary: Haven't seen "Pitch Black"? Then you're in the dark!
Review: Vin Diesel breaks out in this sci-fi alien thriller. The main focus is on Ridick (Diesel) who portrays a deadly criminal being transported on a commercial space craft. The ship crashes forcing the passengers to survive on a planet under three suns. What the survivors only later find out is that the planet is inhabited by vicious nocturnal aliens. With the only help coming from the man they fear most, the survivors must trust Ridick to lead them to safety. The cast is not a well known one consisting of many first time actors, yet with the strong character development of Diesel and believable roles of supporting actors, big names weren't needed. With its fantastic special effects and terrifying plot, Pitch Black is an awesome movie experience!

Summary: Love it or Hate it....
Review: If you check out the reviews in this forum, people either loved this movie or hated it - as clear as black and white. One good thing that that points out is that the movie, in one way or another, evicted strong emotions from anyone who saw it.

I personally thought it was the best movie I saw of '99.

I haven't seen the unrated version yet...but that's what I've preordered. I'm interested to see any additional footage.

Summary: WHAT A FILM BABY
Review: This movie just rocks, sure the plot has more holes than swiss cheese but it has one thing included that the people over in Hollywood keep forgetting, it's fun, and besides that Vin Diesel rocks.

If you enjoy enjoying movies then give this disc a spin sometime.

Summary: To be Seen on DVD with a Dolby Digital home theatre
Review: Action a fair plot and great Special Effects. I viewed it in the theatre in Dolby Digital 5.1. I was very taken by the wonderful sound mixing in this film a full range of possible dynamic effects were used. Everything from Hard hitting low freq - to harsh ear spliting noises, usally from the planet's creatures. When it hits DVD it will be in 2.35:1 widescreen so I recomemed 38 inch TV or Bigger and please have a 5.1 Dolby Digital reciver and the full range of speakers 6 in all, if you dont have a ok home theatre this film might be something less for you..

- Note on the acting - Vin.. is the Man.. this young man has some talent and a Future unlike most of the no-names in this film, but hey I'm a critc

-Note on Presntation- When gathering the guys around or whom ever to watch this adjust the color to a central level to advoid color bleeding and when the film starts look at the black bars at the top and bottem of the screen and adjust the contrast and britness to make the black bars bold and black not gray if this is done you'll have the best set-up for this film... oh and Turn it up I recommend something like 65db to 70db if you can..

enjoy.. ps. it's a good film to make the chicks jump and hold on to you..

Review: One of the best films of the year. Great visuals, superb characters. Wonderful.

Summary: Excellent Sci-Fi
Review: Pitch Black was arguably one of the most overlooked films of the early year. Although the setting of the film could seem routine to a casual viewer(space travelers stranded and bickering on a hostile planet infested with alien nasties), director David Twohy's wonderful use of color and stylistic flourishes more than makes up for any trivial complaints.

For those of you curious about the film's plot, it deals with a group of marooned space "passengers" who spend the majority of their time searching for a way to evacuate a harsh desert planet. Their efforts are unexpectedly forced to quicken however when they discover a particularly vicious type of nocturnal alien ready to emerge to the planet's surface during an eclipse.

Viewers can't help but like the film's villainous hero(played by Vin Diesel of Saving Private Ryan and Boiler Room)who brings to memory Arnold Schwarzenegger's famous role as the Terminator.

The film looks and sounds great and has more than a few moments of nail-biting tension thrown in for good measure. For Science Fiction fans this is a must-see. And as for the rest of you, try giving this fine movie a chance.

You'll thank me when you do.
