Summary: From a Sci-Fi lover....it's GREAT
Review: This was a great movie. Most of the actors are new,but pretty darn good. The effects are wonderful and the story IS good. (despite what others may have said). It is a story SIMILAR to Aliens...but they are totally unaware of what is on the planet with them. They have a few "obsticles" (haha) on their mission in repairing the ship. I have to tell you my favorite part is where that good looking guy with the shades does this cool thing (don't want to give it away) by staring the "thing" snap-dab in the face it is really cool.I would say more about the "scene" but I would give something important away. It's good! Trust me.

Summary: An alien clone, but far better than many.
Review: Okay this film does share alot with Alien, but it is still a very enjoyable film to watch. Vin Diesel was without a doubt the most interesting character in the film.

Alot of good lines and overall acting made all of them pretty good. The effects were very clever and some I found spectacular. The planet coming over the horizen I particully liked.

My only real complaints are they never really say what happen at the start. And they never really show what they eat as there doesn't seem to much else on the planet. They show the aliens fighting each other, but not so much eating each other. So what do they survive on?

But still a suspenseful and riveting watch.

Summary: Great Movie
Review: If you like science fiction and/or action (like me), this is a great movie. The movie has great special effects and lots of action from the beginning to the end. The DTS sound is top notch.

Summary: Worth buying on dvd
Review: I really enjoyed watching this film because the visual effects were spectacular. It is worth buying for that aspect alone. I also enjoyed watching Vin Diesel act. He put on a very good "tough guy" performance, and although the plot was not oscar-worthy, the movie made up for it in the action scenes. I am also eager to see the deleted scenes on this movie. I can imagine that this DVD will be in many people's collections.

Summary: Weak plot, but entertaining none the less
Review: This is a good movie, really. The plot line wont blow you away, but this movie isn't reall all about the plot anyways. The visuals are top notch and the acting is decent enought to pass. The plot itself is predictable as most of your other summer blockbusters, so don't expect a sweeping epic, just a movie that will keep you entertained for a good 2 hours. As for the DVD, there are decent features, but nothing outstanding. The package stated that this is the unrated directors cut, but I really don't see what it is that they could have added that is so mind boggling. Never the less, rent it and you'll probably enjoy it.

Summary: Is It Possible This Is Better Than Mission To Mars ?
Review: Pitch Black may borrow from several Sci-Fi flicks; at least all the flicks were honorably favorable ones like Aliens,Road Warrior, Dune, etc. The original creativity and imagination from the writer for this story, including aliens that will only come out in the dark or night, added to the thrill and horror of what these creatures could do. At least the creatures were given a "weakness" unlike other films where the creepy things are indestructible. Expose these puppies to sunlight and P-O-O-F !...The same thing that happens to Gremlins and vampires in the sun w/o sunblock spf 2000.

Vin Diesel is also another actor to watch out for as he may be the next big box office success. Right now he's a little rough around the acting edges. Yet, he's defintiely destined for greater things! As for Radha Mitchell, she portrayed her character very humanly; she proved her character was fallible and human just like the others despite her rank or authority.

The f/x were also reminiscent of Starship Troopers; which is a compliment and not an insult. The only annoying eye strain-excercise is the beginning of the film where the crew is new to the planet's surface; The bluish-white filter camera effect was unbearable !

This is a defintie Sci-Fi must see !

Summary: "Alien" clone that trys
Review: I usually don't waste time with these types of movies but when I saw the previews I thought it could be an ok movie. and it was pretty much . but thats about it. I will give this movie credit for adding some new twists to a tired genre. The monsters dont like light and there is some neat play with that but it doesnt really do much for the excitment. One saving grace of course is the future action star Vin Diesel. He plays a dangerous prisoner who can see in the dark and one total badass!

This movie does have its fans im sure. It does have some originality . but not much

Summary: Smart and Slick...
Review: Having seen this one in the theater I thought Pitch Black took a familiar genre into a new direction. On DVD it scores even bigger. David Twohy's script is very linear as far as plot goes but mangages originality within it. The ensemble cast make up an interesting group of survivors who actually serve to be the main driving force of the story. Despite the excellent special effects, especially the way cool opening crash sequence, the cool creatures, and a very cool visual style this story at its core is character driven drama which is rare enough in cinema let alone in a sci-fi Thriller. Vin Diesel scores the most points with his character of Riddick. He, though a known killer, is more than he appears like many of the characters in the story. Diesel will hold your attention when he is on screen. As far as the DVD features go they are average and I confess to not being able to tell what the difference is between the unrated version and the R-version. Still the picture is great with almost no noticeable imperfection and graininess only in the darkest scenes. The Dolby Digital 5.1 is crisp and well mixed throughout but best heard in the crash sequence. All in all a must have in any DVD collection for the Home Theater fan.

Summary: Surprised...
Review: When my husband came home from the store with this one I could do nothing but groan. I knew it was going to be terrible and I made no bones about saying so. I had to eat my words. This is actually a good movie.

After their ship crashes we find our heroes stranded on a planet that has some deadly surprises lurking about. This planet is inhabited by a very dangerous race of alien monsters that stay in the darkest areas on the planet. Well, since this planet has a total of three suns there shouldn't be any problem. Right? Wrong! We soon find our group in the midst of a total eclipse. Darkness has fallen and the monsters have come out to play.

Striking visual effects, good acting, and a few surprises thrown in makes this movie a very enjoyable watch.

Summary: A must see, if only for the fx
Review: Sure, the plot is derivative and uneven in spots, but the visual effects used in Pitch Black are quite stunning in spots. There is above average acting from a cast full of new-comers, and the plot DOES have some twists and turns that should keep your eyes open, even late at night. Twohy has captured the "post-modern" technique (quick jumpshots, fluid-motion, color variations) quite well. A good omen for the future of "scinema."
