Summary: A Pure Cerebral Playtoy
Review: 3 Suns? Yes, 3 suns... "bloody hell," as they say in the movie. This movie moves you more and more toward the hell between each of those suns as each are eclipsed by a humongous Saturn-like planet. I won't bore you with the plot, because this movie is so much more than plot. It immerses you into a world that you're not accustomed to. Even the cinematography goes so far as to create and "excess light" in the field that you watch. With toys reminiscent of the computer game Myst, and scenery that seems dull but is truly profound, this movie lends itself to the childish impulses of fear and morbid fascination as it ensnares you and traps you in its clutches, only to be let go with a final scene that makes your heart jump but your mind feeling pleased that it ended so well and complete.

Summary: A lighter shade of black
Review: Solid is the best way to describe this movie. Is is above run-of-the-mill scifi/horror movies like Screamers, Mission to Mars, or Red Planet.

Vin Diesel, playing Riddick, is the main attraction of the movie, both character and plot wise, as surprisingly, his development at the end of the film brings about an entirely new and improved perspective of him. This 'redemption' turns a slightly above average film into a somewhat better than average film.

There are holes in the plot, but these are easily overlooked and the film enjoyed purely for its atmospherical treatment. The tone of the film is something carefully developed, which, combined with solid acting (Diesel the only real standout performance) makes its watchable and enjoyable.

The special effects are rather eye-catching, without distracting the viewer from the story of the film itself. The creature effects are superb, adding the right amount of nastiness to these creatures. Along with Diesel, the creatures themselves are a delight to watch, although artistically they are heard more than they are seen. This only adds to the tension.

The tension is adequately maintained, the pacing fine throughout the film. This is all visual, with only the slightest character intepretation required right at the end. On the whole this is a harmless, entertaining, tense and dark film. While the stars indicates 6/10, I think 6.5/10 would be more appropriate.

Summary: Wicked & Fun
Review: It's amazing how much fun an under hyped sci-fi movie can be. This movie delivers on a lot of different fronts. For a B movie the special effects are good (not great), the pacing is quick enough to cover up for some plot holes and Vin Diesel is the perfect non-hero. I watched the unrated version but I could imagine the studio heads doing a hatchet job on the movie version, which might explain some of the early negative reviews. Like 'Event Horizon' two years ago, this movie was definetly under rated when it came out and has a great blend of horror, action, and a good casting job with actors that know how to play their appropriate roles (i.e first to die, bad guy, hot chick, etc). What is sad is that Pitch Black with its medium budget and straight forward plot is just so much more enjoyable than so many high budget or highly hyped sci fi movies like Red Planet, Red Mars, Planet of the Apes. Of course it won't replace Alien (s) as a classic but you will definetly feel you got your money's worth.

Summary: This is the real Sci-Fi experience
Review: Friggen best bug hunt since Alien. Vin is a masterpiece along with the rest of the cast, even if they do get eaten...mostly. Super cool plot and brillant direction.

The opening scenes of the pilot making a crash landing have to rate as the best thrill ride ever.

Summary: Overhyped. Not really scary, not so good.
Review: VIN DIESEL takes action after a starship spaceship crew crashlands on a mysterious planet where creatures roam only at night. When the eclyipse hits at 22 years to the dot, the planet goes pitch black, and the crew must fight to survive the man eating beasts.

MY REVIEW:

"When buying this movie, I thought it was going to be great. There wasn't anything great about it at all. Vin Diesel did pretty good, as did the rest of the cast of the film, besides all the swearing that came out of their mouths. There is some action, no thrills, no chills, no spills, not much realism to the creatures, and when the films starts to pick up, it ends in like a half hour. This film, I have to admit, was better than RED PLANET and MISSION TO MARS. Enjoy some of the action that lies in this film, but forget the rest of the cheapness to the film."- MJV & the Movies.

Summary: Vin Diesel's best movie ever.
Review: Two years after SAVING PRIVATE RYAN, Muscled shaven head action star Vin Diesel gives War and action a break as he takes on the role of a silver-eyed convicted murderer in PITCH BLACK. PICTH BLACK a US/Austrilian Science fiction horror movie is a film that really is best viewed in the dark due to the film's title. Vin Diesel who also stars with ARMAGEDDON'S Keith David and FARSCAPE's Claudia Black finds himself fighting evil. The film follows Riddick (Diesel) a escaped convicted prisoner who has silver eyes and wears sun glasses to keep his eye sights clear who along with a group of space travellers crashes on a desert planet that has been scorched by three suns. Where Riddick, Johns (Cole Hauser) a bad a** cop who has a bad addiute and Fry (Radha Mitchell) a middle-aged space piolt and the travellers discover that the planet is infested with reptallian extra terrestrials who only attack in Darkness. That is the story line. Vin Diesel is defanly the hero of the movie as he makes Riddick's portrayal make Hannibal Lector, a classic motion picture hero/villian. Diesel himself is the kind of film actor who would go out with Angelina Jolie or do a movie sex scene with Shannon Elizabeth. But still he does a damn good job at playing the main character. Once you view PITCH BLACK, you will never think about watching movies in the dark ever again. PITCH BLACK is reccomended viewing and Vin Diesel's best movie ever.

Summary: My boyfriend made me watch this & now I'm afraid of the dark
Review: Okay, just kidding. But this is a suspenseful movie. I jumped a few times.

A spaceship crash-lands on a planet that used to be colonized. This ship is transporting a violent criminal. There is something on the planet that preys on humans.

The characters are intriguing. The atmosphere is charged. The cinematography is excellent, including the use of colored lenses to create an alien feel to this world. I can't tell you any more without giving stuff away! Watch this movie...but watch it with someone close enough to clutch in fear!

Summary: "The Blair Witch Project of Outer Space"
Review: I think this is what you get if you mix together the Blair Witch Project and Galaxy Quest. Take a mediocre and predictable sci-fi story, throw in a group of actors that seem to have been instructed to act as badly as is feasibly possible, and then throw in one actor (Vin Diesel) who somehow is able to go counterclockwise and turn in a powerful performance. Mix this all together and the result is something unique, different, and downright weird. There were times where I thought I had my DVD in wrong and that the real movie was on the other side. This unusual mix of the good, the bad, and the ugly winds up with about a 3 out of 5 in my book.
