Summary: Probably the best Videogame adaptation
Review: Mortal Kombat is perhaps the best videogame adaptation out there. There are moments where it's been held back but aside from some small things, the special effects are great, the story is pretty good. Even if you haven't liked the video games or haven't played them you could enjoy this movie. Robin Shou play Liu Kang, a man troubled by the death of his brother, who was killed by Shang Tsung (Cary-Hiroyuki Tagawa). The whole story centers around a world which mortals must compete in a combat to the death in a tournament to save their world from a dark emperor. Not all that great but it works. The fight scenes are very well done and very well choreographed. However, the movie suffers from a bit of lack-luster acting at times and humor that was otherwise wasn't needed. Johnny Cage (Lindon Ashby) is only there to provide humor for the movie. Mix that together with some lack-luster acting by Robin Shou and Lindon Ashby and you've got a movie that's enjoyable but only because of its special effects and fight scenes. Though I must give credit to Cary-Hiroyuki Tagawa, his acting was pretty good. But some of the acting in the entire movie period needed more emotion. Mortal Kombat was a very engrossing movie that was easy to get into even if you haven't played the games. The movie is pretty spectacular as far as effects and fighting goes. Its very easy to look past some of the lack-luster acting because the action the movie presents.

Summary: Better then the game!
Review: I love this movie it is better then the game! And I like the part where Liu Kang fights Shang Tsung and Liu Kang wins and Shang Tsung falls on the spikes! I recommend this movie I give it 5 stars ***** but I think that they shoud of made Christopher Lambert look more like Rayden from the game. And I caught the last 6 minutes of the movie on encore movie channel. But what I saw of it is great! Like I said I recommend this movie! Well bye bye!

Summary: it's greeeatt
Review: fight after fight after fight is great except the fight with Guru which just plan sucked. Lindsey Ashbey is great as Cage, Shou as Lou Kang is kicking and Bridgette Wilson(now Wilson Sampras that she married Pete Sampras) is hot as Sonya Blade but the second movie had a even hotter Sonya. a good time. the end battle is the highlight. Christopher Lambert as Raiden is great.

Summary: A great martial arts film
Review: I liked Mortal Kombat. I saw the movie when it came out in theaters and was impressed. I own the DVD and am proud to say so. Mortal Kombat tells the story of the Mortal Kombat tournament. The Mortal Kombat tournament is a tournament for all the marbles. If Shang Sun and his allies when they take control of the portals coming to earth. If the good guys Johhny Cage, Sonja Blade, and Lu Kang win they save earth. The humans are helped by the rain god Rayden(Lambert) in there effort to win the tournament. The movie has all your favorite characers from the first game. You get to see them all in action. The action scenes are great and are well done. They have real actors that know how to do the martial arts doing it. The character special moves look great, as Mortal Kombat has excellent special effects. It's a fun movie. There isn't to much redeeming social value out of it, but I like the movie. It's a great martial art action sci fi flick. Don't miss out on it.

Summary: Martial Arts At its best
Review: If you don't like this movie then your not a fan of the video game. The movie was the best when it came to the fight scenes. Plus you had all the great fighters. Robin Shou was great as The Chosen One. The guy who played Rayden sure knew how to keep the whole "God of Thunder" in perspective. And Goro was pretty good too. There could have been a few more characters though

Review: Ah, the joys of video games. After the success of STREET FIGHTER, hollywood had another adaptation of the equally popular MORTAL KOMBAT video game series. The result is a fun martial arts film that is reminiscent of such karate films where the action was based in a tournament, films like ENTER THE DRAGON, BLOODSPORT, BLOODFIST, you know what I mean? Liu Kang (Martial Arts champ Robin Shou), Johnny Cage (Linden Ashby), and Sonya Blade (Bridget Wilson) are all contestants in a martial arts tournament known as Mortal Kombat, but they only belatedly discover they've been recruited by a thunnder god known as Rayden (Christopher Lambert) to take part since the winner of this tournament can determine the fate of the earth. Since evil demon sorcerer Shang Tsung (Cary-Hiroyuki Tagawa) plans to conquer and rule the earth if he or his warriors win, it is imperitive that one of the three win. They'll be helped by comely Princess Kitana (Mega-babe Talisa Soto), but will they prevail? MORTAL KOMBAT just throws all that at you so you can get past the plot and focus on the action, which is sort of an early combination of the fighting in CROUCHING TIGER, HIDDEN DRAGON, and THE MATRIX. There's rarely a scene that doesn't feature either gravity defying kung fu fighting, or eye-poping special effects, or both. One scene in particular features Liu Kang in a fierce battle with zombie ninja Sub-Zero, and his victory is aided via "the element which brings life." Liu has another fantastic fight later with the infamous Reptile. This movie may lack a moving story to hang to action on, but it doesn't matter. It movies like this that give meaning to the term non-stop action. Liu takes part in the tournament primarily to avenge the murder of his brother Chan (by Shang Tsung.) Sonya is there to hunt down crime-lord Kano (Trevor Goddard). And Cage is a hollywood martial arts star, and is in the tournament to rid himself of the presses skepticism. As for Kitana, lets just say she looks great for someone whose 5,000 years old. In all, I reccomend the film to martial arts fans everywhere. Forget what the crtics say, make up your own mind, and you can't go wrong.

Summary: Without a doubt, MK is one of the BEST video game movies.
Review: Quick recap for those who dunno anything about the plot: Our world is one of many realms, ours being called "Earthrealm." Well, another realm, "Outworld," is ruled by an immortal who wants to take us over. The gods set up a tournament called Mortal Kombat (held once a generation) to decide our fate. If Outworld's warriors win ten victories in a row, they can invade us. They have won 9. Oh, another sidenote, the victor of Mortal Kombat becomes Immortal, meaning he cannot age or become ill, so he can defend his title in the next tournament. (but the victor can still be killed by another.....) The best fighters from Earthrealm are: Johnny Cage, a Hollywood actor trying to prove to the world he's not a fake; Sonya Blade, A U.S. Special Forces agent pursuing a dangerous criminal; and Earth's mightiest warrior, the Shaolin monk Liu Kang. These warriors are summoned by the protector of Earth and God of Thunder, Raiden to, hopefully, save the world. The bad guys range from ninjas with supernatural powers (Scorpion, Sub-Zero, Reptile) to a demon sorceror (Shang Tsung) to a four-armed, half human-dragon (Goro, the undefeated champion of Mortal Kombat for the last 9 tournaments.) Now to the actual review.... The fight scenes are amazing, with great sets (the best sets in a martial arts flick, in my opinion) and amazing characters. The best fights would have to be Johnny Cage vs. Scorpion and Liu Kang vs. Reptile. The only word to describe those fights is, "Wow." Shang Tsung is the single greatest villian in video game to movie history. He's pure evil, and even steals the souls of Earthrealm's fallen heros! Plus, he's kinda funny, too. Raiden is fairly a humorous character as well. But the star of the show, even though he dies in the first five minutes of the sequel (part of the reason it sucked) was Johnny Cage. He would crack a joke everytime you saw him, and even managed to steal the spotlight from Liu Kang as he was about to fit the final battle. (He actually comments to Sonya,"nice dress," when the fate of the world is about to be decided and everyone else is dead quiet.) For an otherwise serious fighting movie, he really adds to the film. Heck, he even gets serious and challeneges undefeated Goro to protect his friends. (and wins without even getting touched!) Honestly, without Cage, I think the movie would have seriously been a let down. I was a huge fan of the games, but this movie made me a huge JOHNNY CAGE fan. Great vision and excellent script put this on the top of the game-to-movie pile. (except for the great Final Fantasy, which failed only because it killed too many of the main characters and people didn't take to it.) I suggest to at least give MK a rental, but you probably wouldn't be disappointed if you simply bought it.

Summary: great movie, lots of fighting (like we all love)
Review: Although I'm a big Mortal Kombat fan, I was a bit disappointed with some of the small details...ie how SubZero and Scorpion were buddies, how [bad] Kano fought, and how some scenes looked a bit exhaggerated, almost like dancing. They needed more fatalities and some more fireballs and more signature moves. I was, however, deeply disappointed in Kano. He fought ONCE and didn't even fight! He basically let Sonya hold him with her thigh grab, drooled on her leg, and let her break his neck. He didn't even fight! "Hey Kano, how about prying her legs off ya?" And Sonya couldn't have beat him in a million years (not to be sexist) but I don't think a woman can break a man's neck with her legs. Especially Kano, the brutalist one on the game!
