Summary: Fairly good adaptation of the original comic
Review: I have the original videotape, LaserDisc, and MovieCD of this movie. (MovieCD - not VideoCD. MovieCDs are CD-ROMs of movies that can be played on your computer. They used to be sold at computer stores.) Yes, I like this movie. Someday I will probably get the DVD. I do have a few of the toys. Most of my comics are in storage so forgive me for a few minor errors on issue numbers and such. I started reading the original Mirage comics around #16 when the guest artists were just starting to become active. I think I stuck with it to the end. I have the colorized volumes that contained #1-12. (The original comics were black & white.) I also have a few issues of the newer, somewhat weird Ninja Turtles published by Image. I never read any of the Archie issues. I also watched the TV series during the first season. This movie is largely an adaptation of plot elements from an actual story in the original comics - with the order of events flipped around a bit. The fight with Shedder on the rooftop was actually from the first issue (or story if I'm wrong about the issue #) Other plot elements come from around #8-12. The Shedder was not the primary villian in the Mirage comics. He only appeared in a few issues. In the original comics, April was the lab assistant for an evil scientist named Baxter Stockman. She wasn't a news reporter. The Turtles actually met her while rescuing her from Stockman's inventions. In this movie, they met her in a totally different way. For the kids, April is a news reporter. Except for a couple of issues by guest artists, the original Turtles never ate pizza. Overall, this movie is loyal to the essence of the original Ninja Turtle comics with some elements from the children's version mixed in. This is the only movie in the series to do that. It is also the darkest of the movies. The others are strictly for the kids. However, I do enjoy some elements of the third movie, but it's still more of a children's movie. I hate the second one. I think this was the next to last movie Jim Henson did work on. He's not listed in some references, but he is on the TMNT's official web site - where there is a photo of him with his creation. There are also signs that a new movie might be in the works.

Summary: Old school fans and newbies both should own this
Review: I've been reading TMNT comics since 1991 when I was 13 years old. I remember getting advanced tickets to this film, and going with 12 of my comic-book buds from Jr. High. I loved it then, and now 11 years later I still sit through it with a smile. Funny, exciting, and at moments heart-touching, this film has all the appeal an Old School Mirage fan could want, with enough twist for those just now discovering TMNT with the release of the new comic series. I recomend this highly. (And yes, I cry at parts too! Heh heh.)

And the movie was just top notch, the 2ed moive was good but not as well did as the first. to anyone out there i would say either buy this movie or atleast go rent it. it is well worth buying and very more so worth the asking price of the dvd or heck even the vhs would be worth buying. So anyhow you really need to see this movie, even if you dident like the cartoon, it's worth a watch.

Review: This movie was great! Some felt that it was more for adults than kids, but me and my family loved it. I really enjoyed Raph, he was the best!! The tuff guy turtle with the heart of gold. The soundtrack to this movie is also awesome!! Buy them both today!!

Summary: The Ninja Turtles will be remembered forever !
Review: In 1989 when I was about 5 years old, I was introduced to my first favorite action cartoon series "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles". I would always wake up in the morning and turn on the TV just to watch Ninja Turtles everyday with my brother. I would always jump out of the edge of my sofa and imitate what the turtles are doing during the fight scenes. Mainly, I tried to act like my favorite turtle, Leonardo. My mom would always stop me from imitating them too much. When I turned probably about 6 years old, my parents used to buy me Ninja Turtles action figures and soon after, I started to collect them (today, they're collectors items and the cost a lot, according to collectors guides). When I heard that the Ninja Turtles movie was about to release, I was very excited and I always imagined how it would look like when it comes out on video. When I went to my cousins house (where I'm currently living in right now), I finally got a chance to watch the movie for myself and I was not disappointed. The Turtles were totally different. Jim Henson really did a great job in bringing our favorite turtles, Leonardo, Donatello, Raphael, and Michaelangelo to life. The action is superb. The turtles really fight like never before. You'll find that the action in the movie version is even better. Today as I'm still living and breathing at the age of 17, I own the DVD movie and yes, I'm so proud to own an old memorable movie that I grew up with. Although still wondering when they'll make a new Ninja Turtles series or still continue on with the already canceled series "Ninja Turtles: The Next Mutation", I still think this will keep me busy until the other two TMNT movies get restored on DVD. If you're an old fan of the series, and you want to relive all the excitement you used to have as a kid, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles The Movie will never let you down.

Summary: Amazing flick!!!
Review: What is it about this movie that keeps me coming back? I cant recall a movie that captivated me as many times as this. i own the whole TMNT trilogy, but this movie really stands out. The costumes for the turtles were(i believe) the last project Jim Henson's Shop worked on, and wow are they ever excellent. They blend into the setting perfectly, without ever seeming too "fictional". The extra features are somewhat basic, but cool nonetheless. The sewer maze game shown from 1st person view was cool, and the T-Files were cool, but could easily just be read on the ninjaturtles.com website. I really encourage anyone to get this DVD or movie. I have so much fun bringin' this DVD to my friends and watch as they get into it again, and relive the moments of childhood, hehe. Totally pick it up. Take it easy yall. MCL

Review: Where I lived, Ninja Turtles were more than just apart of pop culture, they were culture. Pizza Stores opened like McDonalds all over the place. "Cowabunga" became a often used word, and to this day, years and years later I cannot remember ever thinking "that was just a phase". Ninja Turtles the movie(s), the characters and the action figures weren't, in any shape or form just toys or heros to me...I hope that movie that John Woo comes out with is a success. I know I will pay to see it. I just bought this DVD years after being front-row for this movie so long ago.

Summary: A surprise to say the least.
Review: One goes into this film expecting a stupidity fest, but you come out pleasantly surprised. Maybe it's low expectations, but it turns out to be much better than you would think. This picture is one of the series of children's character movie tie-ins, and by all rights it should be unbearably awful, just like the rest. Luckily for us, the filmmakers seemed to realize that the turtles had a large adult audience from the comic books out there, so they managed to sneak in a little real drama and some actual character development into this so-called children's movie. Unfortunately, as the cartoon show came to dominate and the turtles were seen as only a kid's phenomenon, this element was sadly taken out of later entries in the series. Many things were thankfully gotten right. The turtles were done very well here. Unlike watching, say, `Howard The Duck', I found it rather easy here to suspend my disbelief and forget that I'm watching four guys in rubber suits. The comedic aspects of their personalities were hit bang on as well, the banter flowing smoothly and true to form. The fight scenes, while not very memorable, were done with some talent behind them and turn out rather well. The character of Casey Jones is surprisingly believable and likeable. Now, I'm not nominating this film for any awards, not by a long shot. It's a quickie tie-in, so there is the expected large list of flaws. April O'Neil, as in all the other entries in the series, is acted horrendously badly. The filmmakers go through the background story so quickly that it would easy to miss something. The final fight with Shredder is woefully disappointing, with this supposedly unbeatable ninja being taken in by a childishly simple trick. But, overall, I'd say this is a good family picture, better than most of junk that's put out in the genre. The kids should like it, and hopefully the parents won't be bored out of their skulls by it.

Summary: Long live the 80's
Review: I was a huge Turtles fan as a kid and this movie is even better than I remember it. It's low budget and cheesy, but it's ca'mon...it's FUN! It's also a lot more grown up than I would've thought (the second movie caters more to the wee 'uns that flocked to see this movie.) The martial arts scenes are a lot cooler than the fancy-shmancy Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon stuff, the Turtles seem like a group of frat guys you know, and it just feel good to cheer for the good guys. The dark side is easy to hate, too. Too many modern day villains are little wimps: the Shredder's got villainous fortitude. My gripes: the DVDs features are better than some, but really...no behind the scenes stuff, no cut scenes? If you have it on VHS, you're not missing a whole lot. The movie's costumes are a little cheesy and the acting is what you'd expect, but...so what? If you were a Turtles fan, you need to see this movie.

Summary: TMNT: a masterpeice
Review: TMNT: The movie, was really a masterpeice of Independent filmaking. It had everything that one could ever want from a movie: action, romance, comedy, a brilliant story, an origional concept and likeable characters - so much so that you actually feel their joy and sadness as the movie progresses. The ''Family'' moments with Splinter and The Turtles are genuine and emotional, and give a depth to this movie that few ''modern'' movies can achieve. I would give this movie six stars if I could.
